The old argument that defends abortion now has a new twist. This time, its wearing a clerical collar. Its not enough these days to champion abortion by mere reason. Trying to convince women that ending a pregnancy is actually a shame-free positive good is starting to ring hollow as well.
So now the latest wave in promoting abortion comes from a most unlikely source. A social ethics professor of religious studies at Elon University makes her case for declaring that abortion can actually be considered Christian.
Rebecca Todd Peters writes in her new book, Trust Women: A Progressive Christian Argument for Reproductive Justice, that we should trust women to decide what is best for them in matters of childbearing. She claims that if Christians truly value women and healthy families, they must accept that not wanting a baby is an imminently appropriate reason to end a pregnancy. Letting the woman herself be the final arbiter is reproductive justice.
Peters is an ordained Presbyterian minister (PCUSA) who holds a MDiv and a PhD from Union Theological Seminary in New York. Whats unique here is not her argument, which has been around a long time, but her attempts to wring actual Christian virtue out of the traumatic act of ending life in the womb.
Perhaps progressives are getting desperate. You have to wonder if the public exposure of Planned Parenthoods practice of disassembling baby parts in abortion clinics has taken such a toll that they must now distort church history and Judeo-Christian apologetics to bolster a weakened defense. Using Christianity to shred the last little pieces of a conscience rooted in faith is, shall we say, rather unprecedented. Rebecca Todd Peters Hijacks Plenty of Words

If you’re okay with murder, lying is not beneath you.

Good point, excellent reply.
Well ... there's your problem, right there.
No. It's an "imminently (sic) appropriate" reason to keep your panties on ...
Union Theo: Gay Times Central, at least from the 60s.
Where's the "moral courage" to say NO to sexual intercourse when she wasn't prepared to "parent"?
They have preached “false” doctrine for so long that they now believe it. You see fake news everywhere in the media, so why not false doctrine by our religious leaders and denominations.
Do not be deceived by these people. Read the Word of God and believe in it. I think you will find God does not condone the murder of innocent babies except in the defense of the mother’s life. And that choice being the mothers.
Not to reopen the issue, but I urge everyone to just read and study the bible for guidance on this matter. As with all decisions in life, be informed before you have to choose. I speak from experience.
The often misused and overused phrase a special place in hell, seems entirely appropriate for this creature.
Baby killers think God says, “Go ahead, I made the child, but you can kill it. I’m good with that.”
Liberals are stupid like that.
"When the service concluded we were asked to stay seated until the President and Mrs. Clinton departed for the White House. However, as they walked down the aisle I stood and reached out for Mr. Clinton. `Mr. Clinton, America must stop killing babies.` He looked at me with a blank stare on his face. I repeated this statement to him.
"Hillary (not hearing my comment) then came to give me a hug and I said (in a voice only audible to her), `Hillary, it's against God's law to kill babies.` She stepped back, shaking and trembling, and then grabbed my arm. Her countenence transformed from a pleasant demeanor to the appearance of being possessed. Her eyes were enraged as she replied, `It is God's law to kill babies.`
"I drew back in shock at this blatant and revealing statement. I fully expected her to say, `It is God's law for women to have a choice,` or other pro-death rhetoric. But no, she was bold and blatant. I would not have believed it if I had not heard it with my own ears. I walked out with General Colin Powell. As the Clintons got into their limousine I approached the car. Through the glass I continued to plead with Mr. Clinton to stop killing babies. Again he had a troubled stare.
"But the killing will continue so long as there is no understanding among church people about holiness. It will continue song long as Hillary Clinton and company have their feminist agenda enforced. It will continue as long as Christains continue to be apathetic and non-resistant. It will continue until God released his hand of judgement upon our nation. But in the end it must stop. Until it does, the voice of unborn babies will cry out for justice."
(I have this on video tape from C-SPAN.)
The truly sad thing is some church leadership is leaning toward this.
Just as it seems to me there are new beacons out there in the world, lighting the way for conservatives...people who should not be are still caving to the darkness of the left.
In my wildest dreams I cannot imagine any church condoning abortion, but we are seeing it.
The 10 Commandments were merely suggestions, too.
1Tim 2:12 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.
The Greeks and Romans would frequently leave defective and unwanted babies to die, and would deride the Jews for their choices.
The Bible OTOH, says, “I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live....” —Deut 30:19
‘Seems pretty clear.
God created humans and therefore human nature. Abortion is contrary to human nature. End of discussion.
One of the puzzles about Scripture, to me, is what is the unforgiveable sin, blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. I think I am seeing it in action here.
The sin God says He won’t forgive, taking the name of the Lord in vain, is doing something self serving while claiming to speak for or representing God. That seems to apply to her.
