Catholics on Tuesday were awaiting the release of one of the most sweeping investigations ever on U.S. clerical sex abuse of minors an 800-page-plus grand jury report detailing 70 years of misconduct and church response across Pennsylvania.
The release is the culmination of an 18-month probe, led by state Attorney General Josh Shapiro, on six of the states eight dioceses Harrisburg, Pittsburgh, Allentown, Scranton, Erie and Greensburg and follows other state grand jury reports that revealed abuse and coverups in two other dioceses.
Legal challenges by some of the approximately 300 clergy named in the report have delayed it, after some said it is a violation of their constitutional rights. Pennsylvanias Supreme Court ruled last month that the report must be released but with some redaction. That ruling came after at least 10 news organizations, including The Washington Post, urged its release.

Why is the Pennsylvania District Attorney spending over two years investigating allegations for the last 70 years?
Credibly accused? Or simply accused?
I don't know a single person who got through Catholic schools in the 1960s or 1970s who did not have a nun whack them across the fingers with a ruler. Today, even that would be called abuse.
Don't hold your breath because the names of the clientele won't be limited to a football coach & a shower room.
And sadly, that is just Pennsylvania. Hundreds of predatory priests. How many more across the US and worldwide—protected by the church. They should all be tried, convicted, and executed. The church should take matters in their own hands and call them to Rome, to the Vatican, and do so directly. Fix their mess. They last executed someone publicly around 1870. Time to do so again.
“Hundreds of predatory priests. How many more across the US and worldwideprotected by the church.”
I don’t think you are a Catholic.
I have been a Catholic all my life. I have never been approached by a predatory priest.
The so called “predatory priests” were a small group of homosexuals who protected and promoted each other. Almost none had sex with children. Far fewer than in the general population. The so called “sex with minors” were homosexual priests and boys in their late teens.
Accusations going back 70 years are almost impossible to prove or disprove. That is probably the point. To make a lot of accusations to defame the innocent and the guilty.
I would suggest that if two or more accuse the same man, it should be looked into with zeal.
That would be the Christian thing to do.
” I have never been approached by a predatory priest.”
I have, and I was 11 or 12 at the time. Alter boy.
I don’t know just how prevalent it is, but it is not unheard of. Or impossible.
They've about bled the Catholic Church in this country dry, they'll start in on all other Christians soon enough. It'll be interesting to see whether people screaming about Catholics accept the same sort of proof for claims against non-Catholic schools and pastors as they're eagerly eating up now. Proof that almost all comes from the very same sort of democrat scum that 80% of Evangelicals say lie about everything else, by the way.
All in all, an interesting study in the human preference for things that fit their preconceptions and the ease with which they adopt as a preconception whatever the media formerly known as mainstream have pumped out for decades.
I am not going to debate who is Catholic and who is not. That is insulting. Maybe you are lucky, I was as well, but the news is clear that there are plenty of homosexual and predatory clergy. The Vatican, for the survival of the church, needs to take a leading role in this and end its cover-up and protection of these clergy. They need to be rounded up, tried, convicted, and executed.
"The report cites 301 priests, clergy and lay teachers with credible allegations against them.
There are 99 in the Diocese of Pittsburgh alone.
Of those 99, a group of four groomed and violently sexually assaulted young boys, said Shapiro.
“One boy was forced to stand on a bed in a rectory, strip naked and pose as Christ on the cross
for the priests. They took photos of their victim, adding them to a collection of child pornography
which they produced and shared on church grounds,” Shapiro said.
Shapiro said the priests would mark their victims by giving them gifts.
“To make it easier to target their victims, the priests gave their favored boys gifts –
gold crosses to wear as necklaces. The crosses were markings of which boys had
been groomed for abuse,” Shapiro said.
Filthy sodomite cabal.
“I am not going to debate who is Catholic and who is not. That is insulting. Maybe you are lucky, I was as well, but the news is clear that there are plenty of homosexual and predatory clergy.”
I did not mean to insult you. I was trying to find out your background. I should have worded it differently.
I agree that there are evil people in the Catholic Church hierarchy.
I knew about Cardinal McCarrick years ago. I also knew about other homosexuals in the priesthood and hierarchy.
But I also know many good and holy priests and I hate to see them unfairly attacked.
I know of good priests who would not wear their collar in public because they were falsely and unfairly attacked by strangers who knew nothing about them.
This idea that the pedo problem is an “isolated” situation with the Catholic Church seems a bit disingenuous considering the monstrous number of claims, proof.
THe Pedo problems seems to have been a wholesale part of the church going back lifetimes! If this was a Corporation, a business, it’d been sued out of existence a million times over!
And will their be any indictments, trials, and convictions?
Oh, now they appeal to protection from legal/civil authority?
They're not going to like it very much when they face God and explain what they did as HIS representatives while here on earth.
And I don't think God is going to care about their Constitutional *rights*.
Based on some of the reports we’ve seen on FR, it IS a worldwide problem.
This issue in PA may be the tip of the iceberg.
Or not.
Who knows, maybe it’s been all the same small group of priests who have been very busy for a long time,t o molest so many minors.
Yeah, taht’s the ticket.
They got moved every few weeks and that’s how they were able to molest kids all across the country.
“Legal challenges by some of the approximately 300 clergy named in the report have delayed it, after some said it is a violation of their constitutional rights.”
These are accusations from the past 70 years. To publicly label people by name as child abusers based on perhaps decades old unverifiable accusations is a violation of someone’s rights.
