“nightly reports from Vietnam detailed that day’s casualties”

When the enemedia turned fake news into a science.

Summary: 1968 was when the leftist priests, who put politics WAY ahead of religion, finally became emboldened enough to defy the church openly. And in so doing they began to dismantle it, a process that continues unrelentingly to this day.

To the real topic: I am distressed by the use of the terms “liberal” and “conservative” in the Church. They are political terms and should be left in politics. Particularly as regards doctrine, one is either orthodox or one is a heretic.

If anyone has not yet read it, I strongly recommend Robert Bork's book Slouching Towards Gomorrah, where he writes as a first hand witness to the rapid degradation of the culture in the late 60's, particularly on college campuses.

Two months later, 28 August 1968, living hell broke out in Chicago and other cities during the Democratic Convention.

https://www.history.com/this-day-in-history/protests-at-democratic-national-convention-in-chicago

It was not just a war against Catholics and other Christian churches, it was a revolution against America.

Unfortunately, many of those throwing rocks and setting fires went into politics and our universities. They now control the Democratic Party and our universities. They continue to wage a war of subversion against our churches with their Social Justice War bs. They control our universities, school systems, and our churches with their hate America and SJW bs.

I was 11 years old in 1968. What I saw on TV every night was pretty unsettling to me. I learned a valuable lesson that year: mankind is nuts and evil, capable of almost anything. My dim view of the world and basic distrust will live with me always. I’m not Catholic, but I very much enjoy the postings of Msgr. Pope. I would enjoy meeting him sometime.

There are too many who are eager for a rerun at this half-centennial of one of American Christianity's darkest hours.

O Lord, save Thy people and bless Thine inheritance, granting to Thy people victory over all their enemies, and by the power of Thy Cross preserving Thy commonwealth.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.

Do Thou, Who of Thine own good will wast lifted up upon the Cross, O Christ our God, bestow Thy bounties upon the new Nation which is called by Thy Name; make glad in Thy might those who lawfully govern, that with them we may be led to victory over our adversaries, having in Thine aid a weapon of peace and a trophy invincible.

Both now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

O Champion dread, who cannot be put to confusion, despise not our petitions, O Good and All-praised Theotokos; establish the way of the Orthodox; save those who have been called upon to govern us, leading us to that victory which is from heaven, for thou art she who gavest birth to God, and alone art blessed.

For me, the biggest news event of 1968 was Richard Nixon’s victory in the presidential election—the greatest comeback in the history of American presidential politics.

1968 was the year of the BIG LIES.

Remember, what is the purpose of a lie? To control you...………

“Perhaps such tendencies were decades in the making, but as Cardinal Stafford notes, there was something about that hot and fateful August of 1968. Something in that awful year infiltrated the Church and has grown like a cancer...—that awful, fateful year of 1968. Usquequo Domine … usquequo? (Ps 12:1)”

INTERESTING NOTE:
1968 was the very same year that the post Vatican II “church” made their own unique change to the consecrating rite whereby they invalidated their consecration. That is, anyone (supposedly) made into a Bishop using that rite is not a true Bishop. That means that every purported Priest ordained by such false Bishop is not a true Priest either!

In 1968 the Left began convincing all their primed and ready fellow travelers to culturally throw the baby out with the bath water. Religious institutions, often connected as they are to branches of academia - where the Left was already strong - were not immune.

It was absolutely the worst of times. The world or at least USA as we knew it and, yes, that Catholic Church, all changed dramatically and not at all for the better.

The time period 1966-1972 was the Second American Revolution IMHO. Sadly, the America that I grew up reading about in the history books and heard about in church lost that round.

I'd also lump in those years the change in music. The Beatles, long hair, psychedelic, Joplin, Hendricks, etc....all part of the counter-culture.

My dad would have nothing to do with it....nor allow the family either.

Paul Johnson dubs 1968 as the year of “America’s Suicide Attempt.”

A good description, equally applicable to the Church.
