Anyone walking the Camino?
Vanity ^ | 5/11/2018 | Oshkalaboomboom

It's coming up on the most popular time of the year for pilgrims, outdoorsmen and adventure seekers to walk the Camino de Santiago. I will be walking from Sarria to Santiago de Compestela in September. If any FReepers will be walking around that time, or touring Spain before or after their walk and heading towards southern Spain give me a shout out.

I have long wanted to. Maybe in 2020.

I’d love to hear your experiences and tips.

Interesting...I envy you! I’ve run with the bulls in Pamplona, and always hoped to get back for the pilgrimage.

Be safe!

I did it in 2001, along with 63,000 other perigrinos. My wife did it 4 years ago along with over 300,000 others.

Started in St. Jean and walked for 29 days, with one day off.

Sigue las flechas armarillo.

Back when I taught about medieval music, I always included the cantigas of Alfonso el Sabio, the king who celebrated the reopening of the Camino de Santiago after retaking the land from the Moors.

They are, as far as I can tell, all hymns to the Virgin Mary, and a lot of them can be heard here. Many if not all of them were meant to be sung by the pilgrims on the Camino, with someone singing the verses and everyone joining in on the repeated chorus.

I used to own a 69 El Camino. Does that count?

Good to see you posting. Vaya con Dios!

I used to enjoy posting articles here as I read them online but it got ruined by too many admin wanabees and basic jerks. Just about anyone who posts here volunteers to do so and if it isn't worth the aggravation they stop. I still get up early every morning and read all of my articles. I just don't share them with FR. But I'm still here if you send a pm.

Looking forward to your review here when you’re done, if you’re so inclined. I plan on doing it with my brothers in 2020.

I’ve been reading this, and it seems pretty decent.

If you use Facebook a group I follow all the time is American Pilgrims on the Camino they have more information on planning than you will ever use.

How I would love to do this, should have done it 10 years or so ago when I was in better shape. Have a blessed walk and we would love to see any pictures.

If you’re Catholic, make sure you get your official pilgrim papers and stamps. At the end there’s an office in Spain run by the Cathedral of Santiago where the pilgrimage ends who will issue you an official document of completion of the pilgrimage.

Its one of the ways a person may add a seashell to the their personal Heraldric Crests, if you care about such things.
