Bishop Paprocki: Senator Durbin is not to be admitted to Holy Communion
Courageous Priest ^ | Bishop Thomas John Paprocki

Posted on 02/22/2018 8:49:54 AM PST by fatima

Statement from Bishop Thomas John Paprocki on Senate Failure to Pass Pain-Capable Unborn Children’s Act----- Edit------

Canon 915 of the Catholic Church’s Code of Canon Law states that those “who obstinately persist in manifest grave sin are not to be admitted to Holy Communion.” In our 2004 Statement on Catholics in Political Life, the USCCB said, “Failing to protect the lives of innocent and defenseless members of the human race is to sin against justice. Those who formulate law therefore have an obligation in conscience to work toward correcting morally defective laws, lest they be guilty of cooperating in evil and in sinning against the common good.” Because his voting record in support of abortion over many years constitutes “obstinate persistence in manifest grave sin,” the determination continues that Sen. Durbin is not to be admitted to Holy Communion until he repents of this sin. This provision is intended not to punish, but to bring about a change of heart. Sen. Durbin was once pro-life. I sincerely pray that he will repent and return to being pro-life.

You don’t need the freaking Catholic church or some Bishop dictating who deserves communion and who doesn’t. Nobody put him in charge except for the Catholic Corporation.

Always interesting when Protestants start to squawk about the Catholic belief of the Eucharist. it’s not some twisting of the Gospels brought on by a rich and decadent Vatican, it goes back to the earliest days of the Church when it was still being persecuted. Just one example:

Justin Martyr (100-165): Christian philosopher and apologist
First Apology(155 A.D), chapter 66

“And this food is called among us the Eucharist of which no one is allowed to partake but the man who believes that the things which we teach are true, and who has been washed with the washing that is for the remission of sins, and unto regeneration, and who is so living as Christ has enjoined. For not as common bread and common drink do we receive these; but in like manner as Jesus Christ our Savior, having been made flesh by the Word of God, had both flesh and blood for our salvation, so likewise have we been taught that the food which is blessed by the prayer of His word, and from which our blood and flesh by transmutation are nourished, is the flesh and blood of that Jesus who was made flesh. For the apostles, in the memoirs composed by them, which are called Gospels, have thus delivered unto us what was enjoined upon them; that Jesus took bread, and when He had given thanks, said, “This do ye in remembrance of Me, this is My body;” and that, after the same manner, having taken the cup and given thanks, He said, “This is My blood;” and gave it to them alone.”

So basically it’s a country club. And if somebody doesn’t follow the rules of the Catholic church then they kicked kicked out of the country club. I get it

To be “out of Communion” means, at the very least, out of fellowship.

Can such a person attend church? If so, he is still part of the fellowship.

Even Catholics who are in mortal sin--- and thus cannot receive Holy Communion --- are still morally obliged to attend Sunday Mass, and willful failure to do so is another mortal sin.

People are only obliged to leave if they are disruptive.

Hon, anybody can "attend" Mass at a Catholic church if they behave themselves. Mormons. Muslims. Martians.

Even you.

It’s in the link and I did 50 percent.
Sen. Richard Durbin, whose residence is in the Diocese of Springfield in Illinois.
I am also going to add Sen. Casey.Sorry don’t know what Diocese.
Bob Casey takes heat from both sides on Senate abortion vote
Democrat Bob Casey’s vote Monday on a bill to ban abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy triggered criticism from both sides of the political aisle.

It’s the same vote Casey took in 2015, when the same bill failed to advance from the U.S. Senate.

He and the same two Democrats — Indiana Sen. Joe Donnelly and West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin — once again joined Republicans on Monday in backing the measure.

And once again, the bill failed to advance, though it did force swing-state Democrats such as Casey to reaffirm their positions, and highlight his being out of step with party orthodoxy on the flash-point issue.

“Thou shalt not kill” is God’s rule, not something invented by the Church.

Yes, Durbin isrre d on entity by IRS. vindictive. But c3 status is a state chartered entity, with tax benefits conferred on entity by IRS.

The limitation on the c3 then are telated to lobbying annd endorsements of candidates.

Do not believe exercise of religious sanctions would be issue

“Hon, anybody can “attend” Mass at a Catholic church if they behave themselves.

It is as I said. Scripture is not followed.

Bishop Paprocki has expelled Durbin from Communion. That's a radical step. He does not expel him from hearing the Gospel preached: that would be an impediment to repentance.

If you think St. Paul's intention is that he be cut off from hearing the Gospel and the call to repentance, we'll just have to disagree.

Even if Durbin were to be formally excommunicated that would not relieve Durbin of his duties as a Catholic to attend mass. There is always the hope of redemption and resumption of his ability to take the sacraments.
