Okay, so there is more than just one problem with the KJV Only movement. I know that. But having grown up in a KJV only church, there is one major problem that sticks out to me above the rest. It is not just a major problem; it is an insurmountable problem. And it drives me crazy.
If the King James Version, which is a 1611 English translation of the Bible, is truly the only infallible, inerrant, and inspired Word of God, then what about the billions of people who have lived and died and never understood a word of English? At this very moment, there are more than 6 billion people in the world who understand little or no English.
And lest we forget, it wasnt until 1455 that the first Bible was printed (on the Gutenberg Press) and then much later into the 16th century before the Bible became affordable and widely available. These early Bibles were printed in Latin. This begs an important question. Did the Faithful over the centuries who either never had access to the Bible or had to read it in Latin go to hell because they never held the King James Version in their hands?
By claiming that the King James Version is Gods only chosen version, the KJV Only crowd is dismissing tens of centuries of Christendom and implying that the majority of the world populations today cannot know the truth of Gods word. Such a claim is arrogant and nonsensical. Most of these KJV types proclaim their adherence to Sola Scriptura yet nowhere in the King James Version does it tell us which version is the true one. Many of these same people also express their disdain for thetraditions of men while at the same time swearing allegiance...

I strongly suggest that you take a look at this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KL3mWM4TSh8
This guy has a big following (relatively speaking among independent Christians) and I think he is one of the major representatives of the KJV Only movement in this country.
Please tell me what he says that answers my question, and at what time in the video that is. I am not going to sit through a 44 minute video with no idea about the what or when.
.
The word says that obedience is required for salvation, so any means we may have to learn what to obey should suffice.
The disciples and apostles were not teaching how to read, as far as I can see.
.
You might want to go back to Acts 15 and read the conclusion from that first great Council of the Believers. Does your ‘prophet/leader, Michael Rood, ever teach on Acts 15?
Yes, but you are still not focusing on the clear words of Scripture. ""Do you understand what you are reading?" And he said, "Well, how could I, unless someone guides me?"
Scripture says we need a guide.
It does? What verse would that be?
The Mosiac Covenant worked that way, but the Messianic Covenant is based on faith in the grace of God through the sacrifice of Jesus.
Ephesians 2:8-9 - For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.
In a group they tend to be very territorial. You are either 100% in agreement with them or you are rejected.
Just my experience.
The churches that had stronger deacons were more open and acceptable. When the deacons were merely rubber stamp servants of the minister or elder, they were very narrow.
I had a position where as an outsider I was brought in as an advisor on tax matters and clergy compensation planning with over 300 churches across the full spectrum of denominations. I also was on Bishop’s Boards evaluating financial sustainability of congregations. Thus they treated me as an insider and I treated them with respect. This included many Amish and Mennonite horse and buggy groups.
That opened the door for me to study both the doctrines and the people.
Scripture says we need a guide.
Yes. And the Holy Spirit is the best guide you can get.
Well, how could I, unless someone guides me?”
That was the statement of the non Christian eunuch to Philip who was filled with the Holy Spirit.
It makes no sense at all. When I say things like that, though, I’m told that’s what leaps of faith are for. Isn’t that convenient? I thought so.
I did my original research more than 25 years ago. If things have changed over the years and the leaders and others are saying KJV is required for salvation, they are wrong and I will say so. Please let me know what you find.
There is the NKJV.
Whatever Bible you are comfortable with,be it the KJV or the NRSV,is what is important.
I call the ESV a starter Bible.
“Starter Bible”. :)
I call all of ‘em that aren’t KJV, “Brand X”, and my husband hates that. When we’re having devotions at night, we read from NKJV ‘cause he like it better. When it’s my turn to read, I go into King James lingo and he doesn’t notice.
The Holy Spirit is the guide.
John 16:13 When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come.
1 Corinthians 2:1-16 And so it was with me, brothers and sisters. When I came to you, I did not come with eloquence or human wisdom as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God. For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. I came to you in weakness with great fear and trembling. My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirits power, so that your faith might not rest on human wisdom, but on Gods power.
We do, however, speak a message of wisdom among the mature, but not the wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing. No, we declare Gods wisdom, a mystery that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began. None of the rulers of this age understood it, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. However, as it is written:What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceivedthe things God has prepared for those who love himthese are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit.
The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. For who knows a persons thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us. This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words.
The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit. The person with the Spirit makes judgments about all things, but such a person is not subject to merely human judgments, for, Who has known the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.
Anyone who has been born again/born from above has the Holy Spirit living in them and HE will guide people into the Truth. That is His job.
Since we have the Holy Spirit we have been given the mind of Christ. When we have his mind, then we understand spiritual truth.
KJV onlyism is a form of Anglo-Israelism.
You seem to imply that everyone can have their own interpretation of Scripture.
Though I respect the KJV and used it exclusively when I was a Bible college student for study and memory verses, I know that the Bible’s ORGINAL languages (Hebrew, Greek and Aramaic) are actually the ONLY true inspired texts. That doesn’t mean, however, that the truths God has communicated to mankind cannot be known from translations of those texts. Words, in context, mean what they say. Some words in Greek, for example, don’t have a perfect English substitute. That is why a good Bible student utilizes multiple versions, lexicons, concordances and commentaries. The gospel doesn’t change no matter what language a seeker hears it in and God has promised that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. He WILL be known when we search for Him with all our hearts.
