Bethel Church, a controversial megachurch in Redding, California, is now under fire in Christian circles for allegedly promoting New Age occultism in the use of "Destiny Cards," which critics have likened to tarot cards.

Leaders of the 9,000-member congregation have been accused of working with a Melbourne, Australia-based group known as Christ Alignment, a group that claims to have worked with many churches in that country to do readings.

Why would you continually sacrifice Christ over and over and over again as seen in Roman Catholicism when the New Testament tells us His was a one-time sacrifice?

Between the Roman Catholic misapplication of The Lord's Supper and the worship of Mary I'm not sure which error is bigger.

“Why would you continually sacrifice Christ over and over and over again as seen in Roman Catholicism when the New Testament tells us His was a one-time sacrifice?”

Two words: syncretic paganism.

“Between the Roman Catholic misapplication of The Lord’s Supper and the worship of Mary I’m not sure which error is bigger.”

Worship of Mary is worse. God is a jealous God.

Good grief, the ignorance and occultic superstition.

Next thing you know they’ll be burying statues upside-down to sell their houses faster.

As far as I’m concerned, Christians believe in magic and sorcery too. They just don’t call it that.

You're conflating 2 entirely different belief systems. I suggest you study the meaning and practice of sorcery vs the meaning and practice of Christianity.

If you want to argue that Christianity and sorcery have their own "rituals", that may be true. But his can be said of any of a number of things. Judaism has rituals; Hindus have rituals; the Masons have rituals; the Navy has rituals; the Senate has rituals; your family likely has rituals.

To suggest that sorcery and Christianity are somehow alike is far from the truth. Sorcery rejects Christ in the Christian sense. In terms of belief systems, sorcery and Christianity are diametrically opposed.

Now that's funny! For those who don't know, burying statues upside-down to sell their house is an RC superstition.

many evangelical and mega churches don’t even have altars in them.

Altar??? Why would we need an altar??? Altars are for sacrifices...We aren't sacrificing anything...We worship...

Highly doubtful this is an evangelical church.

Why not look it up to find out what this faith community says about itself ?

Bethel Redding

BETHEL'S MISSION IS REVIVAL

Bethel Redding’s mission is to create a vibrant family of hope-filled believers who deeply experience the love and presence of God and partner with Jesus to express the joy and power of His kingdom in every area of life.

We have a passion for people, our city and our world. Our culture is characterized by worship, the presence of God, family, revival, miracles and healings, and honor. These core values have been shaped by our rich history and leadership of multiple generations.

We are a local church body who worship together at several weekend services across multiple campuses in Redding, California. However, we are not your typical church because of our global impact as a revival resource and equipping center. People from around the world attend Bethel conferences, trainings or our full time ministry school to experience more of God and the ways of His kingdom.

We Are About Revival The personal, regional, and global expansion of God’s kingdom through His manifest presence.

We are a community of believers who are passionate about the things of God:

Relationship with God Our number one priority is our personal relationship with God. Our first ministry is to God with extravagant joy and gratitude.

Freedom through Salvation Salvation frees us from the power of the devil - sin, lies, sickness and torment.

Supernatural Ministry Every believer is a supernatural minister of the gospel of power. All ministry flows from the prayer “Thy kingdom come... on earth as it is in heaven.” We equip and send the church to carry on the signs and wonders that followed Jesus.

Impact through Love & Power Serving a city, not just a church, we demonstrate God's grace by impacting every sphere with His unconditional love and transforming power

A Glorious Bride Christ is returning for a glorious overcoming bride - His Church. We are sons and daughters of the King, more than “sinners saved by grace.” We aim to fulfill the Great Commission and steward revival to the next generation. We embrace the biblical government of apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers.

WE BELIEVE:
- There is only one true God who is the eternal King, Creator and Redeemer of all that is.
- He is perfectly holy, just, loving and truthful.
- He has revealed Himself to be eternally self-existent - one being in three persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.
- The Bible to be the inspired and only infallible and authoritative Word of God.

Well; now we know what they SAY.
Now I wonder just what it is that they DO?

I'm not catholic, but this is not how they see it. During mass, they are joining with the one-time sacrifice through time. In this mystery, the differences in time do not cause a new event.

My Church has an altar on which you will find bread and wine. There is no pretend worship as we receive the Body and Blood of Christ truly present in with and under the bread and wine. As a body we would soundly condemn any practice as describe here. Take your catholic bigotry and false feelings of superiority and stuff it. Maybe Mary will kiss your boo boo for you. We worship Christ and Him crucified not Mary and a panoply of saints and angels.

Lots of people call themselves things they are not. That statement was likely written a while ago. Too bad they have strayed from it

I'm not catholic, but this is not how they see it. During mass, they are joining with the one-time sacrifice through time. In this mystery, the differences in time do not cause a new event.

I offer this from a Roman Catholic priest as to what happens during the Mass.

John O' Brien, Roman Catholic Priest in the Faith of Millions. Hebrews 9:24-28 Hebrews 10:11-13
When the priest pronounces the tremendous words of consecration, he reaches up into the heavens, brings Christ down from His throne, and places Him upon our altar to be offered up again as the Victim for the sins of man. It is a power greater than that of monarchs and emperors: it is greater than that of saints and angels, greater than that of Seraphim and Cherubim. Indeed it is greater even than the power of the Virgin Mary. While the Blessed Virgin was the human agency by which Christ became incarnate a single time, the priest brings Christ down from heaven, and renders Him present on our altar as the eternal Victim for the sins of man—not once but a thousand times! The priest speaks and lo! Christ, the eternal and omnipotent God, bows His head in humble obedience to the priest’s command. 24For Christ did not enter a holy place made with hands, a mere copy of the true one, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us; 25nor was it that He would offer Himself often, as the high priest enters the holy place year by year with blood that is not his own. 26Otherwise, He would have needed to suffer often since the foundation of the world; but now once at the consummation of the ages He has been manifested to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself. 27And inasmuch as it is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment, 28so Christ also, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time for salvation without reference to sin, to those who eagerly await Him. Every priest stands daily ministering and offering time after time the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins; 12but He, having offered one sacrifice for sins for all time, SAT DOWN AT THE RIGHT HAND OF GOD, 13waiting from that time onward UNTIL HIS ENEMIES BE MADE A FOOTSTOOL FOR HIS FEET. 14For by one offering He has perfected for all time those who are sanctified.

Now, what does the Catholic Church specifically teach about such practices as burying a St. Joseph statue to sell a home? Interestingly, because the Church in her wisdom understands her own roots and teachings, and has great confidence in her people, neither agrees nor disagrees with such practices. Essentially the Church says, although these are my words and not hers, "When you abide by the practices of our faith and never cross into superstition induced behavior, it could make perfect sense to bury a statue because it isn't the act of burying the statue that you see as having value and benefit but, instead, the intercession of St. Joseph, whom you rightly call upon for help. These things that move you towards a deeper relationship with God and an understanding of His commands can be good for you. They can help you grow in your faith."
