And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars: And she being with child cried, travailing in birth, and pained to be delivered. And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads. And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born. And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and to his throne.(Revelation 12:1-5)
Who is the mysterious woman, writhing in agony of birth, seen in the vision of the apostle John in Revelation 12?
We have shown that on one level this woman represents the true people of God, the faithful congregation, those who truly worship God, and wait for his full deliverance. But there is a more specific meaning to the Image of the woman in the vision.
Some have speculated that the woman is Eve. We have remarked upon the connection between this chapter and Genesis chapter 3. In Genesis three we see Eve,(Adam also, but he was passive), in a dialogue with the serpent. Eventually she succumbs to the flattery and seduction of the serpents lie, and defects from God, with her husband. She is told that she will bring forth a son who would bring salvation, the seed of the woman.
Others speculate that the woman represents the virgin Mary, the counterpart to the disobedient Eve. Mary said Yes to God even though it meant saying no to herself. But Eve did the opposite. The Roman Catholic Church I was brought up in, featured a large statue of the virgin Mary standing upon a globe. She was crowned with 12 stars and under her feet was the serpent. The blasphemous teaching of this statue was clear, Mary defeated the Devil and set men free. This is none less than a distortion of the original Gospel as proclaimed in Genesis 3,
And the Lord God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life: And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.(Genesis 3:14-15)
The European Union has selected for its flag the 12 starred, so-called Crown of Mary based on this mis-interpretation of Revelation 12.
Both of these possible answers for the identity of the woman miss the mark. There is no reason other than speculation, to see either Eve or Mary in this woman.
There are others who believe that the woman is the church, the Bride of Christ. But the church is an espoused virgin, not a pregnant wife. The woman is not the church, for the church is not yet married.
Fortunately there is a specific answer as to the identity of the woman. The book of Genesis offers the key, in the story of the visions of Joseph.
And Joseph dreamed a dream, and he told it his brethren: and they hated him yet the more. And he said unto them, Hear, I pray you, this dream which I have dreamed: For, behold, we were binding sheaves in the field, and, lo, my sheaf arose, and also stood upright; and, behold, your sheaves stood round about, and made obeisance to my sheaf. And his brethren said to him, Shalt thou indeed reign over us? or shalt thou indeed have dominion over us? And they hated him yet the more for his dreams, and for his words. And he dreamed yet another dream, and told it his brethren, and said, Behold, I have dreamed a dream more; and, behold, the sun and the moon and the eleven stars made obeisance to me. And he told it to his father, and to his brethren: and his father rebuked him, and said unto him, What is this dream that thou hast dreamed? Shall I and thy mother and thy brethren indeed come to bow down ourselves to thee to the earth?(Genesis 37:5-10)
The woman is clothed in the Sun, Moon and the stars. The dream of Joseph represents the Sun,Moon and Stars as Jacob, Leah, and the twelves sons of Israel. Therefore the Woman is Israel. She is the specific woman which the serpent hates and has often tried to destroy. Her seed, the Messiah defeated the Serpent in battle, and it is He that shall soon come to Rule all nations with a Rod of Iron.
Israel is a miracle. The beginning of Israel was a miracle, for God wanted to create a new nation, after the nations of the world defected from him in the Babel incident. Rather than select a healthy, virile twenty something couple to begin a new nation, God chose Abram and Sara, a barren married couple, long past child-bearing age!
Israels continued existence is a miracle, for long have the nations of the world sought to destroy her. She was dispersed from her land in 70 ad, and spread from one end of the earth to the other, living in exile for two thousand years.
Of course military defeat, dispersion and enslavement has happened to other nations in history. But the great modern miracle of Israel is that after 2000 years the nation was reconstituted, in May,1948 ad. The rebirth of Israel is a billboard sign to the world that these are the end times, and that there is a living God.
Hear the word of the Lord, O ye nations, and declare it in the isles afar off, and say, He that scattered Israel will gather him, and keep him, as a shepherd doth his flock. For the Lord hath redeemed Jacob, and ransomed him from the hand of him that was stronger than he.(Jeremiah 31:10-11)
For the children of Israel shall abide many days without a king, and without a prince, and without a sacrifice, and without an image, and without an ephod, and without teraphim: Afterward shall the children of Israel return, and seek the Lord their God, and David their king; and shall fear the Lord and his goodness in the latter days.(Hosea 3:4-5)

The second was a variant by Arsène Heitz,[11] who worked for the Council’s postal service and had submitted dozens of designs;[24] the design of his that was accepted by the Assembly was similar to Salvador de Madariaga’s, but rather than a constellation, the stars were arranged in a circle.[11] In 1987, Heitz claimed that his inspiration had been the crown of twelve stars of the Woman of the Apocalypse, often found in Marian iconography (see below).[25]

Since the first time I read it, I believed she was Israel giving birth to the Messiah.
I was stunned that some interpreters see her as the Church.
The Church did not give birth to the Messiah.
The Messiah gave birth to the Church.
The woman in Rev 12 represents Israel. If put in context of the rest of the chapter and the context of Daniel’s 70th week, the 1260 days makes it crystal clear.
Symbolism of EU flag is Marian
The symbol of Europe was conceived by a Catholic and tomorrow, for the first time, the statue of Our Lady of Fatima will be carried past the EU Parliament building

Marian devotion versus Christianophobia: Our Lady of Fatima comes to Strasbourg. The twelve stars on the EU flag are a homage to her and yet this will be her first visit to the political headquarters of the EU.Tomorrow at 10 am, the statue of the Virgin Mary will be brought to the cathedral of the city that symbolises European technocracy, by a group of pilgrims from all across the continent. The statue is also expected to come past the European Parliament building.
Lorenzo Fontana and Mario Borghesio said the arrival of the statue of Our Lady of Fatima in Strasbourg is a unique event. Few people know that the symbol of unified Europe has exquisitely Marian origins, as the European Unions official flag proves with its twelve stars and the Virgin Marys blue and white colours.
Unfortunately - the two Italian Northern League MPs said Europe has deviated dangerously from the symbols original source of inspiration, veering in a different direction, to benefit interests that have little to do with those of our people and with the Christian values the vast majority of Europeans uphold.
Fontana and Borghezio presented a written statement in support of the requests which Our Lady of Fatima became a bearer of in order to save Europe and the world and ensure peace and prosperity. Fr. Nicholas Gruner, founder of the Our Lady of Fatima Association, a non profit organisation, presented the proposal to the European Parliament.
Mario Mauro, leader of the Italian People of Freedom Party (PDL), one of the parties that form part of the the European Peoples Party (EPP), stressed that the EU flag has twelve golden stars that form a circle set against a blue backdrop. The number of stars has nothing to do with the number of EU states but is an ancient numeric symbol that stands for harmony and solidarity. A competition was held in order to choose the flag and French Catholic designer Arsène Heitz won. The meaning of the flags symbolism can be found in an image of Marian devotion which appears in the twelfth chapter of the Book of Revelation: The a huge sign became visible in the sky the figure of a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet and a crown of twelve stars upon her head.
The President of the competition commission was Belgian Jew who had converted to Catholicism and was acutely sensitive to the biblical symbolism of the number 12. In ancient symbology, this number stood for completeness and perfection: the 12 tribes of Israel, the 12 months of the year, the 12 Apostles, the 12 Tables of Roman Law. Heitz was inspired by the Miraculous Medal he wore around his neck: a medal named after apparition of the Virgin Mary to St Catherine Laboure in 1830. It was the Virgin Mary who told the nun to have twelve stars struck on the medal, in representation of the the stars on the crown worn by the woman in the Book of Revelation. Saint Bernadette Soubirous also had a necklace made of tin and string around her neck when the Virgin Mary appeared to her on 11 February 1858, dressed in white and blue.
Arsène Heitz did not reveal the symbols biblical origin (he only did so later on), but claimed the number twelve was meant to symbolise ancient wisdom, a symbol of completeness. This interpretation stuck and the number was confirmed in the constitutional treaty. So the European flag has a powerful Christian and Marian significance. Tomorrow Mary will take back the EU.

Interesting (EU flag design). Thank you for the reference to Joseph’s dream. His life was so full of analogy.

And the twelve stars represent the twelve tribes, just in case anyone has any doubt.
yep - Joseph’s Dream - Genesis 37:10
***17 And the dragon was enraged with the woman, and he went to make war with the rest of her offspring, who keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.***
The above is the key.
A woman
A Son caught up to the throne
The woman protected
Believing offspring attacked
The 70th week appears to be approaching quickly. Of course, we were told things would accelerate rapidly (not too redundant I hope).
So says a guy named Bill Randles.
Yawn. Why isn't this a vanity post?
**the woman represents the virgin Mary, the counterpart to the disobedient Eve. Mary said Yes to God even though it meant saying no to herself. But Eve did the opposite.**
This error has appeared here before.
Joseph's mother was Rachel, who was in such great travail giving birth, that she died. The name Ben-oni was spirited away (along with Rachel) when his father called the boy Benjamin.
Ben-oni: "son of my sorrow" is also the "son of my strength".
As far as iron, the 70 souls listed in Gen 46 are grouped by the mothers of Israel in this order: Leah, Zilpa, Rachel, Bilhah, which is different than the mothers' order of their children's conceptions in Gen 29-30.
Leah
Zilpa
Rachel
Bilhah
Read in reverse order, the first letters spell out barzel, iron: bet reish zayin lamed:
ברזל
Which in turn reads as: bet [resh zayin] lamed. Resh zayin spells the word raz, mystery/secret, and it is encompassed by a bet and lamed, which are the first and last letters of the Torah, and also of the whole of the Tanakh. And these two spell lev, heart.
The first letters of the mothers of Israel - of the 70 souls - spell out as a mystery [raz] within the heart [lev], which is the totality of the Hebrew Scripture, meaning everything beween the first letter and the last, the bet and the lamed. 100%, like the letter kuf which = 100, which is formed by the letters resh and zayin.
Raz has the same numeric value as light (ohr, 207), which shows up in a familiar theme:

Adam (man), meaning red, was created from adamah, the red iron-rich earth, which is related to the word dam, blood. Iron has the atomic number 26, which is the value of YHVH.
Iron is what flows through the [red] heart:
