Shroud, New Study: There Is Blood of a Man Tortured and Killed

Published in a US scientific journal new findings by CNR and University of Padua. Electron Microscopy to analyze a pristine fiber: found creatinine and ferritin iron nanoparticles, typical in cases of severe polytrauma

The Shroud of Turin, the linen cloth that according to an ancient tradition, wrapped the body of Jesus after crucifixion, actually came into contact with the blood of a dead man who suffered many serious injuries. This is what emerges from a research on a fabric fiber extracted from the dorsal imprint of the cloth, around the feet area. The study was conducted by two CNR institutes, the Istituto Officina dei Materiali (IOM-CNR) in Trieste and the Institute of Crystallography (IC-CNR) in Bari, together with the Department of Industrial Engineering of the University of Padua, the latter uncovered the news with a statement. An article detailing the discovery findings and measurements was published in the American journal PlosOne and titled “New Biological Evidence from Atomic Resolution Studies on the Turin Shroud”.

We performed reproducible atomic resolution Transmission Electron Microscopy and Wide Angle X-ray Scanning Microscopy experiments studying for the first time the nanoscale properties of a pristine fiber taken from the Turin Shroud,” explains Elvio Carlino of IC-CNR, who led the research. “In particular, experiments were performed in areas of the fiber away from red crusts visible by optical microscope. We performed an atomic resolution study on the fiber to study organic nanoparticles, according to a method recently developed in the center of Trieste that I directed until a few weeks ago. The study shows that the fiber is fully covered by creatinine nanoparticles, 20–100 nm (one nanometer equals one millionth of a millimeter), embedding small (2–6 nm) nanoparticles, made of defected ferrihydrite, typical of biologic ferritin cores.”

According to Professor Giulio Fanti of the University of Padua, the analyses show how “the peculiar structure, size and distribution of the nanoparticles cannot be artifacts made over the centuries on the fabric of the Shroud.” Many fanciful reconstructions of the Turin Shroud being a painted object are once again denied.” Additionally, Fanti says, “the wide presence of creatinine particles bound to ferrihydrite particles is not a situation typical of the blood serum of a healthy human organism. Indeed, a high level of creatinine and ferritin is related to patients suffering of strong polytrauma like torture. Hence, the presence of these biological nanoparticles found during our experiments point a violent death for the man wrapped in the Turin shroud.”

This conclusion - states the research paper signed also by Liberato De Caro and Cinzia Giannini of IC-CNR, “is based on the experimental evidences of our atomic resolution studies and referring to recent medical studies on patients who suffered strong polytrauma and torture”. Carlino concludes, “The nanoparticles attached to the linen fibers have recorded a scenario of great suffering, whose victim was then wrapped up in the funeral cloth. These findings could only be revealed by the methods recently developed in the field of Electron Microscopy.”

The result of the research, conducted by prestigious science centers, is of great interest and confirms the hypotheses advanced by previous investigations, such as those carried out by biochemist Alan Adler in the 1990s. There is no longer any doubt that the Shroud has wrapped the body of a man tortured and killed in the same manner as described in the Gospels for the Crucifixion of Jesus. An important element that will have to be taken into account next time the Holy See will authorize new examinations on official samples.

Am I correct in my recollection that the age and origin area of the cloth had previously been established?

This is why I have always thought the shroud is a fake. A two-thousand year old piece of wide-woven linen is miracle enough, but no experts in fiber cultivation and knowledge are allowed to have a sample. All they’d have to do is pull a thread. An image can be faked easily, the authentic fabric impossible.

Maybe. At one time they took a sample from an area that had been patched due to fire. Fabric, of course, was much newer. Threw the testing way off and dated to medieval times. This sample looks to have come from a different location.

No way to fake that image.

I’ve never doubted that the cloth wrapped a man after a dloody death. But whether or not that man was Jesus still remains a question. Thousands of people were crucified by the Romans, so the image on the cloth could in fact, be anybody who was ever crucified.

This reminds us that my tagline is the only news that matters: politics, culture, finance, technology, all these are things destined to perish with the using; only Christ’s salvation, and our reconciliation with God through the water and the blood—or out damnation from God by rejecting Christ—last eternally.

That is very true: we do not know if its Jesus or someone else.

But this goes a long way to proving that it is actually blood and not some artifice painted on the cloth.

Thousands were crucified, yes. But how many of those had:
puncture marks about the head (crown of thorns)
scourge marks all over the body
deep gash in the side under the heart
and were carefully buried in a linen cloth?

Not very many, I’d say. All of the above are evident on the shroud.

The same “NEW” study that was published in March 2013:

http://motheofgod.com/threads/evidence-for-shroud-authenticity.4303/#post-178505

If the material on the shroud is blood, the next questions are “how did the blood get there?” and “whose blood is it?”.

As then, the claim Fanti made remains speculative and it appears no other scientific proof of this has come forth in the past 4 years:

“the wide presence of creatinine particles bound to ferrihydrite particles is not a situation typical of the blood serum of a healthy human organism. Indeed, a high level of creatinine and ferritin is related to patients suffering of strong polytrauma like torture. Hence, the presence of these biological nanoparticles found during our experiments point a violent death for the man wrapped in the Turin shroud.”

I’ve made quite a study of the shroud, and you’re correct. But also, crucified people were criminals deserving of the state’s harshest penalty. Bodies were left for the birds or wild animals to eat, or thrown into pits or rivers (obviously, the latter wouldn’t have happened in Jerusalem.)In some cases, no doubt, family could get hold of the body, but it was in no way the typical treatment.

There’s so much, but a few more points relating to your comments: The person is plainly a Jew, yet Jewish law required washing of the body. That was not done here; the Gospels say the body was interred hurriedly because of Sabbath. Agreed on all the points of congruence with the crucifixion as described in scripture, but there are NO other examples of image transfer anything like this, anywhere, at any time. Rather, old burial cloths are invariably corrupted by decay, whereas the shroud has no evidence of bodily decay.

The sample you refer to was taken on an edge of the Shroud that is a well documented repair to the Shroud after it was damaged.

95% of the "investigations" into the Shroud are frauds that start with the conclusion that it's a fake and build BS to try and support that conclusion.

"...so the image on the cloth could in fact, be anybody who was ever crucified."

Showing wounds on the forehead as from a crown of thorns? Showing wounds in the feet and wrists as from punctures (normal Roman crucifixion was down with ropes). Showing wounds from flagellation across the back by a Cat 'o' Nine tails?

And then there's the image. A three dimensional image.

As you say, it could be anyone who was crucified...bot not very likely. The victim of the crucifixion seen on the Shroud was someone very special.
