BTW—

You’re welcome. And a breath of fresh air. It is always nice to see manners and charity exercise on religion threads, especially by someone who is not of one’s own denomination.

I’m by no means perfect in those areas, and, as you will see if you hang around this forum, posting on some religion threads seems to be a blood sport.

Pius VI is alleged to have said to Napoleon: You silly little man, you think that you can destroy the Church, when we and our priests haven’t been able to do so in 18 centuries?
*********************

I actually did laugh out loud at that one....

I was gathering paperwork to take to the tax preparer early this week and asked where her donation statement to the diocese was. “I didn’t donate any money this year.”

Malachi 3:8-18King James Version (KJV)

8 Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings. 9 Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation.
10 Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.

And which new insights are good?

This'll be great; if you get an answer and I get and answer, too!

We can SEE the 'good' and the 'bad' and determine just how 'ugly' the pope is!

It should have been caucused.

Yeah; can't have the neighbors commenting on your dirty laundry; can we!

Tell ya what...

When you Catholics finally find UNITY with each other; then come see if we Prots can be cajoled into it as well.

Eh; it could be worse...

Therefore, if anyone says that it is not by the institution of Christ the lord himself (that is to say, by divine law) that blessed Peter should have perpetual successors in the primacy over the whole Church;

or that the Roman Pontiff is not the successor of blessed Peter in this primacy: let him be anathema.

--Vatican 1, Ses. 4, Cp. 1

At least we Prots aren't in hot water over this!

Even scarier is that leftists are returning to the RCC because they agree with his views.

How can one go wrong if they agree with the top man in charge?

Even MORMONs know this!!

In conclusion let us summarize this grand key, these “Fourteen Fundamentals in Following the Prophet”, for our salvation depends on them.

1. The prophet is the only man who speaks for the Lord in everything.
2. The living prophet is more vital to us than the standard works.
3. The living prophet is more important to us than a dead prophet.
4. The prophet will never lead the church astray.
5. The prophet is not required to have any particular earthly training or credentials to speak on any subject or act on any matter at any time.
6. The prophet does not have to say “Thus Saith the Lord,” to give us scripture.
7. The prophet tells us what we need to know, not always what we want to know.
8. The prophet is not limited by men’s reasoning.
9. The prophet can receive revelation on any matter, temporal or spiritual.
10. The prophet may advise on civic matters.
11. The two groups who have the greatest difficulty in following the prophet are the proud who are learned and the proud who are rich.
12. The prophet will not necessarily be popular with the world or the worldly.
13. The prophet and his counselors make up the First Presidency—the highest quorum in the Church.
14. The prophet and the presidency—the living prophet and the First Presidency—follow them and be blessed—reject them and suffer.

I testify that these fourteen fundamentals in following the living prophet are true. If we want to know how well we stand with the Lord then let us ask ourselves how well we stand with His mortal captain—how close do our lives harmonize with the Lord’s anointed—the living Prophet—President of the Church, and with the Quorum of the First Presidency.

Ezra Taft Benson

“We also can’t go against the official teachings of the Pope.”

If the Pope is teaching something that doesn’t square with the Teachings of the Church & the Gospel of Our Lord, Jesus Christ this thankful Catholic convert is certainly going against the Pope as best I can. There is precedent for this in the book of Acts. Paul charitably stood against Peter as I recall because Peter was wrong.

I was warned not to post on Catholic only threads because I am a former Catholic and apparently that makes me an apostate or a heretic or something.

And you are and idiot who picks their nose in public and farts in elevators; too!

Wow...I didn't know catholics had such flexibility in terms of tithing.

Well of COURSE!

They have ONE level of Heaven; unlike MORMONS who have THREE.

Your tithing percentages make QUITE a difference which level a MORMON finally attains in the afterlife...

HEAVEN-The Mormon church teaches there are three levels of heaven (three "degrees of glory"):

Celestial - for Mormons who have kept ALL of the laws and ordinances of their church.
Terrestrial - for religious people who aren't Mormons and for Mormons who have not met the requirements of the Church.
Telestial - where unbelievers go

How is one to know if a thread is Catholics only?

Well; if one finds wailing and gnashing of teeth after a Prot posts some Scripture; you can pretty much assume that certain people WISH it had been!

The mark of your Baptism on your soul is still there.

All you have to do is sit down with a priest and get your questions answered.

Then you would no longer be an inactive Catholic.

OMG! Where'd Seven of Nine come from??!!??

The “caucus” article and posts must not compare beliefs or speak in behalf of a belief outside the caucus.

This is SO hard to do for certain folks...

Do you consider the Ten Commandments a bunch of other stuff?

Ask JESUS...

John 6:28-29

Then they asked him, “What must we do to do the works God requires?”

Jesus answered, “The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.”

Understand that not everything the Pope does is the the supreme exercise of his office. Not only is there precedent for disagreeing with him when he is not doing so, there are procedutes and bounds.

Peter was wrong in his social actions, which in some sense do teach, but are not an exercise of his teaching office. When the Pope is acting primarily as priest or as ruler, he is not primarily exercising his teaching office, so there is much more room for intellectual agreement. When he is acting as someone who needs to process stuff outlaid in an unofficial conversation, the same holds.
