Isn’t it a known fact that Jesus had a brother?
Error. The Immaculate Conception is the conception of Mary (naturally, by her parents) without Original Sin.
As for the "outrageous" nun, who hasn't heard all this before? It's impossible to come up with a new false belief; they've all been done to death.
Probably got the idea from the pope...
ALL Christians, not just Catholics...............
I think the dogma of Christ’s birth from a virgin, and Joseph’s lack of relations with her prior to Jesus’ birth, is nearly universally accepted among Christians.
The dogma of Mary’s perpetual virginity, OTOH, is not, and for good reason, Jesus’ brothers being among them.
And I am sure that francis will be embracing this with open arms.
actually the Mormons believe this too ...that Mary had sex to conceive Jesus...maybe this nun would be more comfortable in Salt Lake City...
It would seem that this is likely not about Mary being a virgin when Jesus was born but about the tradition that she remained so forever afterwards.
The latter is merely a tradition unsupported by Scripture. As is the belief that she was somehow born without sin herself (which only puts any perceived issues with Mary having a normal human nature off on her own mother, never mind cutting her own familial ties with the different guys, from Abraham on, who had expressly been given the promise that their seed was the one who was promised).
Dear nun,
Thank you for your opinion. You aren’t the first to decide your personal opinion is what matters most in the world.
Your opinion doesn’t mesh with the historical record.
So, tell me again why I should gives a rat’s patooty about your personal opinion?
Sadly, I’m not shocked.
Thanks for posting.
Partial list —
Creation of the world.
Creation of Man.
The Flood.
Virgin birth of Jesus.
Miracles of Jesus.
Bringing Lazarus back from the dead.
Resurrection of Jesus.
We are called to believe any number of “difficult things”. If you somehow think that God is not capable of these things, then maybe becoming a nun was a bad career choice.
Ignorance, stupidity, even insanity and moral depravity, occasionally sqwacks out loud.
Somebody ought to teach this nun how to read and then get her a bible.
This should endear her to Francis.
Joe?
Yeah.
Remember how we’ve never had sex and that we’re married?
YEAH???!!!!
Well, I’m pregnant.
I have long been most influenced by Mark’s Christmas story.
Isn’t this a Catholic caucus thread?
I’m going to walk back my statements. I thought she was making the argument that Mary was not “ever virgin”. I now realize that she was saying that Mary had sex before Jesus was born. The bible really does say otherwise, and contrary to this nun’s observations of human nature, people CAN show self control.
This is especially true in their culture back then when you didn’t have to look at practically naked women in ads just to check your facebook news feed.
Not sure why this is a “catholic caucus”. There are enough loons in Christianity today to go around.
So many people use bible-speak but don’t actually believe the bible.
