A little odd. Rings fans are weird, they just are. And ok, suppose you have some golden ring, you still think ill have to do what you say?
Odd book, odd story.
It's fiction, it was very well done. An entirety fictional world described and charted, a great plot, fun to read, and with the kind of heroes you wish we had more of in this world.
Rings fans are weird, they just are.
Lighten up Francis, projection can be a bad thing.........
Written any classics recently?
What convention would you rather go to:
(A) Star Wars
(B) Star Trek
(C) Lord of the Rings
(D) A Renaissance Festival
(E) None of the above.
Have you read the books? There is nothing in the books that says that the ring of power gives the wearer the power to control people.
The ring of power gave the Lord of Mordor the power to control those who wore the lesser rings.
Three Rings for the Elven-kings under the sky,
Seven for the Dwarf-lords in halls of stone,
Nine for Mortal Men, doomed to die,
One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.
One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them.
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie..
I dont think I have ever met anyone who read the books to the end that did not enjoy the series.
That movie darn near put me to sleep.
The ring is symbolic for the earthly charms that seduce us. What would seduce you? Power. Wealth? Long life or immortality? What would you do to capture this charm?
“And ok, suppose you have some golden ring, you still think ill have to do what you say?”
I’m sure that’s EXACTLY what your wife thinks! (-:
John McCain hates hobbits.
That's all we needed to know about McCain.
“A little odd. Rings fans are weird, they just are.”
Others have had a similar opinion:

(Disclaimer: I don’t share Randall’s opinion - far from it)
“And ok, suppose you have some golden ring, you still think ill have to do what you say?”
Well, if you’re sworn to that ring and it occupies your every thought and motive, then yes, you’ll have to do whatever the holder of the ring says.
Frodo speaking to Gollum; TT: The Black Gate is Closed
But I warn you, Smeagol, you are in danger.
Yes, yes, master! said Gollum. Dreadful danger! Smeagols bones shake to think of it, but he doesnt run away. He must help nice master.
I did not mean the danger that we all share, said Frodo.
I mean a danger to yourself alone. You swore a promise by
what you call the Precious. Remember that! It will hold you
to it; but it will seek a way to twist it to your own undoing. Already you are being twisted. You revealed yourself to me just now, foolishly. Give it back to Smeagolyou said. Do not say that again! Do not let that thought grow in you! You will never get it back. But the desire of it may betray you to a bitter end. You will never get it back. In the last need, Smeagol, I
should put on the Precious; and the Precious mastered you
long ago. If I, wearing it, were to command you, you would
obey, even if it were to leap from a precipice or to cast
yourself into the fire. And such would be my command. So
have a care, Smeagol!
I am odd; I admit it.
I think people who really absorbed in such literature tend to be what Myers-Briggs calls an “N” (for iNtuitive); “S” (for Sensing) types tend to prefer more literal or practical literature.
