He posted a statement from one of YOUR OWN POPES and cited it.

Your argument is not with him but with your pope who proclaimed it.

Is he wrong and if you think so, on what basis of authority do you get to decide that?

Your pope was installed by your college of cardinals who elected him.

Presumption is a sin. Old Catholic Catechism...sins against HOPE are presumption and despair.

Who cares (besides a Catholic) what the catechism says.

What does GOD say IN SCRIPTURE?

Show us where God says presumption is a sin.

I never said such a thing. All humans must obey the unchangeable teachings of the Catholic Church to attain eternal salvation.

Which one again?

Trent?

Vatican I?

Vatican II?

The ABSOLUTELY go to mass every week! A couple of the men began the training for priesthood at 14 years old, living away from home (monastery? Not sure what it’s called). They left just before doing the final whatever to become full-fledged priests. They faithfully sing in the choir. There are six of them (3 women, 3 men) — all so rabidly left wing (I believe they’re actually socialists) that we MAY NOT discuss politics with them or there’ll be Hell to pay. (Of course, as with all libs, it’s OK for them to make snarky comments. Free speech is for them.) Social get-togethers are difficult.

They don’t like Obama because he hasn’t been left-wing enough.

Yes, I was searching the Scriptures and the web last night about despair equals sin. Someone mentioned it on Christian radio last night, and I’ve never heard of such a thing before in my Christian life.

I found many Catholic references to “sins against hope” including despair and presumption, but none of those references claim Scripture as the source.

Of course, Jesus often says be of good cheer and be not afraid. So I’m guessing if you violate these commands, they are sins. But Jesus never described these commands that way.

The catholic church...just as corrupt and dangerous as the democratic party.

Let's put some context around the verse you cited. I know context is difficult for the catholic but we'll try it anyway.

15“Beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves.

16“You will know them by their fruits. Grapes are not gathered from thorn bushes nor figs from thistles, are they?

17“So every good tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears bad fruit.

18“A good tree cannot produce bad fruit, nor can a bad tree produce good fruit.

19“Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20“So then, you will know them by their fruits.

21“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter.

22“Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’

23“And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS.’

Matthew 7:15-23. NASB

The key to understanding this passage is v23. The word lawlessness conveys the meaning of a complete rejection of God's law.

The word practice is a present, participle, middle/passive.

The one who the Lord rejects is the one who continually is rejecting anything to do with God's law. This person is not a believer in Christ.

I’m Catholic. The only time I ever voted for a dem for president was in 1980. I had just turned 18 and grew up in a union town.

Then I had to work. I never understood the concept of equal pay for unequal work that unions love

I have NEVER been a fan of Francis. I miss Benedict.

I’m not happy with the stuff that comes out of his mouth. Thankfully neither does my parish priest.

And again, I see religion laying things on people or calling things sin that God never requires or or calls sin.

Job 24:22 Yet God prolongs the life of the mighty by his power; they rise up when they despair of life.

2 Corinthians 1:8-10 For we do not want you to be unaware, brothers, of the affliction we experienced in Asia. For we were so utterly burdened beyond our strength that we despaired of life itself. Indeed, we felt that we had received the sentence of death. But that was to make us rely not on ourselves but on God who raises the dead. He delivered us from such a deadly peril, and he will deliver us. On him we have set our hope that he will deliver us again.

I don't see condemnation for despair anywhere in Scripture.

He posted and cited a statement that he doesn't even understand.

What kind of subjection is Unam Sanctam talking about? Political subjection? Dogmatic? Ecclesiastical obedience? Matters of personal opinion? Which is it? Because we *are* all subject to the Roman Pontiff (even heretics and pagans) in some ways but not in others. And that was as true in 1302 as it is now.

"Ya'll gotta do what he says."....really? Do we?

And this is where you guys lose your marbles. Because the same Church that wrote the Catechism wrote the Scriptures.

"Ya'll gotta do what he says."....really? Do we?

That's for YOU to answer.

It's your church and your salvation that is hanging on it according to your church's teaching.

For my part, I'll take Jesus' word for it that I am saved because HE said that if I believe on Him I have been saved.

John 3:3-8 Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” Nicodemus said to him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?” Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.”

John 3:14-18 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in him may have eternal life. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.

John 5:24 Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.

John 6:40 For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.”

John 11:25-26 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?”

Seeing how you claim to understand it why don't you explain it to us.

You know why I'm suggesting you do this...don't you? Think about the playground.
