The basilica of San Benedetto had withstood the tests of time since the end of the 14th century.

But on Sunday, the church that paid homage to the patron saint of Europe, Saint Benedict, was reduced to a heap of rubble after a 6.6-magnitude earthquake ripped through the town of Norcia where it stood in the main square.

The basilica was considered one of the region’s most spiritually important sites. Now, only its medieval facade still stands, and centuries of work and other renovations to the interior, including a complete restructuring that was completed at the end of the 18th century, are gone.

I don’t know but im guessing most of these churches built back then were mase of stone and mortar. The same as modern day villages in asia and the mideast where thousands are killed from collapsed stone due to an earthquake. Is there a reason why these churches aren’t uodate with modern foundations while keeping the original buildings intact?

Now all of the muslims the Pope has invited into Europe to dilute European Christian culture will have one less Christian church to destroy when all hell breaks loose

Yes. I was thinking the same. Since the churches are also a big part of their tourist industry I would think public or privately donated monies would have anticipated this scenario long ago and acted on such updates. Curious what all the church and public monies go to overall in Italy.

Raw: Drone Footage Shows Italy Earthquake Damage first part is just one building the next section is kind of ruff to look at. These people need our help, not for us to give money to flim-flamers like the Clintons and the UN.

I have one of their chant CDs and their devotion is so strong in their chant that it comes through despite being transmitted via an electronic medium.

Prays for spiritual strength for these monks.
