I don’t know but im guessing most of these churches built back then were mase of stone and mortar. The same as modern day villages in asia and the mideast where thousands are killed from collapsed stone due to an earthquake. Is there a reason why these churches aren’t uodate with modern foundations while keeping the original buildings intact?
Yes. I was thinking the same. Since the churches are also a big part of their tourist industry I would think public or privately donated monies would have anticipated this scenario long ago and acted on such updates. Curious what all the church and public monies go to overall in Italy.
