A very nice piece. I have come to realize that many cats and dogs find their people rather than the other way around. In many cases I have witnessed (and one I’ve experienced personally) there sure seems to be a divine plan in these pairings.

That is very good but the Bible in Christs own words says for us not to give any thing holy to the dogs, nor cast our pearls before the swine.
And while it is really referring to people it still stands that getting a dog or cat blessed is just what Jesus is talking about.
It is giving something holy to the dogs, making mockery out of the very words of God.

NO, it is not.
It is rather to praise God for His creation, per Genesis Chapters 1-2.

Now it all makes sense. My cats are reading Msgr. Pope.
Have to turn off the computer when not at home.

On this feast day of St. Francis of Assisi...our pets DO get blessed. It's a passive action for the pets.
http://www.peta.org/features/saint-francis-assisi-day/
From the article: Bless All Animals!
St. Francis loved all Gods creatures and followed Gods example of kindness, mercy, compassion, and love for all creation. But there is nothing loving or compassionate about factory farms and slaughterhouses, where billions of animals live miserable lives and die violent, bloody deaths. St. Francis would be appalled by the degree of suffering that we inflict on animals to indulge our acquired taste for their flesh.
=======================================
I would ASSUME that none of the Protestant denominations do this "blessing of animals."

Dogs love us faithfully and unconditionally... probably as close as we can get to God’s love on this earth.

Baloney. Animals are creatures of God. They are signs of His love for us. St. Francis was one of the greatest of saints - right up there with St. Michael.

I have to agree with you about that “divine plan” part. Twice now the Lord has healed my heart by bringing a kitty into my life!

Oreo Vigna turned 17 this week.
He is black and white cat. Rules the 100 pound doberman....RULES HIM.. The dog will not pass the cat without Dom or myself intervening.
Oreo is in good health but showing signs of old age. At 17 its like 130 in human years. I see his body getting old.
But for today he just gets my day going. And you pet guardians know exactly what the means....I thank this ping list that I can share in this crazy, crazy world.
GO TRUMP!!!

I would ASSUME that none of the Protestant denominations do this “blessing of animals.”
I don`t know, but i would not even go to a church that would Baptize a child unless the child was old enough and knew enough to know why it was being done.
I believe God gave us a list of animals his people may eat and those his people may not eat.
Some denominations will twist the Bible around so that it looks like the unclean animals has been cleaned, therefore using that as permission to eat them.
While others ignore Gods word and say we are to just eat fruit and vegetables.
I don`t buy either one.
