Is Mary not a Virgin? The German Bishops’ New Bible Translation Leaves it... Unclear
LifeSite News ^ | 9/21/16 | Jan Bentz

GERMANY, September 21, 2016 (LifeSiteNews) — The German Bishops have presented a new “Unified Translation” of the Bible that follows a significant modernization of the language and will be binding for all German-speaking areas starting in 2017.

On Tuesday, the German Bishops Conference (DBK) presented in Fulda the fruit of many years of scientific work: a new edition of the so-called “Unified Translation" (Einheitsübersetzung) of the Bible into German. It’s called “unified” because, from the original published from 1962 onward, these editions are supposed to be used ecumenically, unifying Catholics and Protestants in Germany. The original aim, however, was thwarted in 2005 when Protestants reverted to the Luther translation.

The leader of the research project was the bishop (now emeritus) of Erfurt, Joachim Wanke, who explained that the new edition is a “moderate revision” of the older text. Wanke added that a translation is always also an interpretation. The new edition shows more “braveness” to present “biblical jargon,” he said, reported by kath.net.

According to Jewish tradition, the personal names of God cannot be pronounced, so “Yahweh” is substituted by “Lord” in the new edition. In fact, every paragraph has a change, explained Michael Theobald, president of the German Bible Association.

When the apostle Paul calls two new followers, they are not two men anymore, Andronicus and Junias; rather, a new discovery showed that apparently it was one man and one woman, hence Andronicus and Junia. This led to the discussion that the word “apostle” must be applied to women as well as men (Author’s note: In German, different genders of the word exist and usually gender-ideologists insist on using male and female forms).

Other changes are more ideological.

Most frightening is the change to the iconic Isaiah passage (7:14): “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son”.....

But that's not where the narrative stops, my FRiend. If you think about this for a moment, you will see what the interpreter of the law saw immediately: that he could never hope to meet the standard just set for him by Jesus.

And rather than confess, repent, and seek mercy for himself based on Jesus' offer of new birth, instead he began to try to justify himself. Though he gave another right answer to the next question, what did he do? Did he confess his sins and his spiritual blindness, and beg for forgiveness?

Come on, now, you have the answer. I gave you the key that when used, would bring that eternal life to you. The complete story is in the link to a saving summary of how to find eternal life, a presenrarion of the Gospel of the Lord Jesus.

Eternal life can be yours as a free gift from God now, if you will choose to obey God and:

1. Repent and turn to God from sin and disobedience (Acts 17:30; Lk. 18:13; 1 Thes. 1:9,10).
2. Confess your guilt of sin and ask for God's mercy (Lk. 18:13).
3. Unreservedly commit your trust in the Lord Jesus Christ, believing He died for you, rose again, and ascended into Heaven to apply His blood on the Mercy Seat to clear you from all guilt (Rom. 10:9; Heb. 9:14,24-28).
4. Receive Him as your Savior and Lord of your life (Jn. 1:12; Col. 2:6).
5. Publicly and openly confess the Lord Jesus Christ before your fellow men. Tell others how he saved you (Rom. 10:9,10; Mt. 10:32,33).

Are you ready to appropriate this wonderful, free gift of God, The Lord Jesus Christ and Eternal Life NOW?

The choice is yours!

May I ask,

What is your choice?

Or is the hearer/reader just going to reject the answer and walk away as the works-oriented "lawyer" (shyster) disbeliever did. There's no riding the fence here. Is this irresponsive refuser just going to keep on trying to earn a ticket to heaven by adding to simple faith, by adding his works to the works of The Crucified One, and continuing to propagate false doctrine which blinds someone else who is desperately seeking the path to relief from the burden of sin?

But that's not where the narrative stops, my FRiend. And rather than confess, repent, and seek mercy for himself based on Jesus' offer of new birth, instead he began to try to justify himself. Though he gave another right answer to the next question, what did he do? Did he confess his sins and his spiritual blindness, and beg for forgiveness?

The first error I see is the error of the lawyer, ie., not accepting the words of the LORD and doing them, but rather looking to continue the debate with Him.

The second error I see is eisegesis. The LORD did not tell him confess your sins and spiritutal blindness, and beg for forgiveness. He told him do likewise, which in this case is to love your neighbor as yourself. This passage is all about love, not the words that drop so easily from the mouth into the dust, but rather the works, which can only be done by hearts obedient to the Word of the LORD. He did not hide it in heaven or beyond the sea so people would be in doubt about what they must do. It is right there in the text.

If one has unconfessed/unforgiven sins, one must confess them. That is not the subject of this passage however. It is not in the text. There are other texts that cover it.

This text dovetails so well with the parables in Matthew about the ten virgins, the men and their talents, and the sheep and the goats.

The important takeaway is to do what the Messiah said to do. He did not deceive. He spoke the truth for He is the Truth.

But he, willing to justify himself, said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbour? And Jesus answering said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead. And by chance there came down a certain priest that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked on him, and passed by on the other side. But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him, And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him. And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave them to the host, and said unto him, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee. Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves? And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou likewise.

So you are still convinced Salvation can be earned by doing, working at it ...

25 When they found him on the other side of the lake, they asked him, “Rabbi, when did you get here?”

26 Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, you are looking for me, not because you saw the signs I performed but because you ate the loaves and had your fill. 27 Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. For on him God the Father has placed his seal of approval.”

28 Then they asked him, “What must we do to do the works God requires?”

29Jesus answered, “The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.”

30 So they asked him, “What sign then will you give that we may see it and believe you? What will you do?

Do you see Jesus giving these seekers after signs a list of sacraments required for eternal life? Do you see Jesus telling them to eat His flesh and drink His blood, yet?

The persistence by these seekers of self-righteousness is what Jesus answered with His purposed discourse on eating the spiritual to have spiritual life, and the seekers after signs were turned away because they could only discern the carnal perspective.

THIS is a spiritual issue, not a carnal one. When the seekers after signs wanted directions of what they could DO, what work they could perform to receive eternal life, what did Jesus answer? 'The work God requires is faithing in Whom He has sent for your redemption.'

To the carnally directed mind, the word 'work' translates into physical actions ... like fidelity to the Mass, working, striving to obtain, where the physical ingestion of mystical elements is played out, as if the physical act of eating the wafer --magically transformed into flesh and blood but remaining a wafer-- will be the work the god of catholiciism requires to obtain and maintain eternal life! It's the great lie!

The SPIRITUAL message is in the will, not the physical body, not mystical 'elements' ... believe, faithe, trust in the ONE WHOM GOD has sent for your salvation. The work God requires is not striving on a sacramental trail, it is BELEIVING / FAITHING in the ONE WHOM GOD sent for your spiritual need. God can and will change that which you cannot change because your 'deeds' arise from a sin nature such that your deeds cannot escape your pride in self. Jesus illustrated this with the scene at Judgment.

As a descendant of Adam the life in your blood is a sin nature. The ONLY cure for this sin nature is being born from above to have a new nature, a new life, LIFE of God's nature. The transformation from Adamic Nature to God's nature is based in a Promise from God, and you will be under that Life influence when you are born from above, to the degrees to which you yield your will to GOD's Holy Spirit direction. At death or in the Rapture you will shed the Adamic body and the life of Adam which carries your sin nature in your blood. The corruptible must put on incorruption, and you cannot accomplish that, especially by doing deeds while in your sin-nature body.

YOU cannot strive and obtain that which ONLY God has, that LIFE of Jesus which is not inherited from Adam. THAT Life is spirit in origin, not blood born in your sin nature body. Being spiritual food, you cannot physically eat it into your being.

The work GOD requires is not achieved through striving, it is Given as The Grace of God in Christ Jesus when you BELIEVE in WHOM GOD has sent for your new birth. THAT is the Grace of God in Christ, The Gospel of the Grace of God in Christ Jesus for you and for me. Accept that new Life by believing / faithing, or continue to strive for it believing you can earn the Grace of God. It is your choice.

Striving, working deeds is what the ones pleading with Jesus at the Great White Throne will offer, trying to be counted worthy, as if it takes their deeds to earn eternal life with Jesus. And in their self-righteousness Jesus will answer depart from Me, I never knew you, I never was given the right by your will to do the works you cite as your works ...

... Salvation can be earned by doing, ...

Salvation is not earned. It is the gift of God. We who are in the Messiah were created in Him to do good works and are commanded to do good works. When the LORD Jesus Christ speaks to the churches in Revelation, he mentions works twelve times, emphasizing its importance. We should obey the Messiah.

And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others. But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus. For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

Wherefore remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands; That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world: But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ. For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us; Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace; And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby: And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh. For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.

Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God; And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone; In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.

Matthew 7:21-23 is an interesting teaching from Jesus. How would you say the 'works' addressed there differ from the works you rightly identify as commanded to walk in for those born from above? ... What does Jesus mean by 'I never knew you'?

You being a Catholic claiming to be 'in Messiah', what is the state of being in Him (and we would presume therefore He in you) and does this relationship need to be maintained by you via your fidelity to the Catholic sacraments? ... If you are in Him, can this status come and go and come and go during your life's walk?

    Two questions to consider:

  1. Does it fit faith healers and prophets who do mighty works (miracles) in the name of Jesus and do not observe his commandments ?
  2. How does that conform to other passages where the Messiah expels those whose life did not reflect obedience to his commandments (such as later in Matthew for example) ?

“You lack authority, succession, and provenance. “

daniella believes she is the end all and be all; an anti-Catholic/anti-Christian who believes she has a right to judge all others...in the end people like her who instantly judge all others are in for a rude awakening on the day of reckoning...

If referring to daniel1212, use the gender that is normal with the given name. He is not she. Daniel is masculine and Dannielle is a common feminine equivalent. Both of them mean "God is my judge." Otherwise one could be offering insult, intended or unintended.

There could be a rude awakening for any one of us who does not daily love the LORD our God with all our heart, soul, and strength while loving our neighbor as ourself. God is no respecter of persons and it is only by His grace that we stand. He is a Great King and will judge every one of us, for He alone is worthy.

My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation. For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body. Behold, we put bits in the horses' mouths, that they may obey us; and we turn about their whole body. Behold also the ships, which though they be so great, and are driven of fierce winds, yet are they turned about with a very small helm, whithersoever the governor listeth. Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth! And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell. For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind: But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God. Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be. Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter? Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh. Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom. But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth. This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work. But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace.

James, Catholic chapter three, Protestant verses one to eighteen,

and an even ruder awakening for people like daniella who continually and pathetically judge others he has no clue about:

1 “Do not judge, or you too will be judged.
References for Matthew 7:1-5
2 For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.
3 “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?
4 How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye?
5 You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.
