The municipality of Selcuk, a town in western Turkey where Virgin Mary is believed to have spent her last days, plans to erect a giant statue dedicated to her in the fashion of the notable statue in Brazil depicting her son.
Virgin Mary House, a stone structure on the outskirts of Bulbul Mountain, is a popular spot among Christian pilgrims since its discovery in the 19th century. Looking to boost faith tourism revenues, Selcuk Mayor Zeynel Bakici said they would erect "a splendid statue" depicting the sacred figure, the same day he announced they were seeking to host an international faith tourism event next year. "Virgin Mary House receives 2.5 million visitors every year despite its authenticity while Portugal's Fatima hosts 5 million tourists every year," he said, referring to the town where the Virgin Mary is believed to have appeared to three children in 1917, making it a revered pilgrimage site. "We have to market our town better," he told a tourism event on Saturday.

even so, it’s a Muslim country......I was shocked since they don’t allow pictures of people.

IIRC, there’s something in the Ten Commandments about not making graven images and bowing down to them......
If you look closely you can see the Nazar (evil eye) attached to “Mary.”
Over 10 years they say because of this image, but there was more to the overall conversion of the Aztecs than that image of the unScriptural Mary of Catholicism, while the devil will again convert many with another image in the future:
And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed. (Revelation 13:15)
Jesus, from the cross.
You understand what is happening here....right?
Yes.
Also Jesus commanded John before he died on the cross to take care of Mary as directed in the 10 commandments.
It's not even close.
“Also Jesus commanded John before he died on the cross to take care of Mary as directed in the 10 commandments.”
Yes. Which has absolutely nothing to do with building statues to Mary, nor bowing down or praying to them, which is idolatry.
That is my point. The verse you quoted has nothing to do with the topic of the thread.
Yes, I realize all this.
Were you baptized as a Catholic and then you became a Protestant, or were you born into a Protestant family ?
Paragraph 6. Mary - Mother of Christ, Mother of the Church
963 Since the Virgin Mary's role in the mystery of Christ and the Spirit has been treated, it is fitting now to consider her place in the mystery of the Church. "The Virgin Mary . . . is acknowledged and honored as being truly the Mother of God and of the redeemer. . . . She is 'clearly the mother of the members of Christ' . . . since she has by her charity joined in bringing about the birth of believers in the Church, who are members of its head."502 "Mary, Mother of Christ, Mother of the Church."503
If it was just a personal arrangement between three people, why do you suppose it was recorded in the Gospel? (See John 20:31)
John was the "disciple whom Jesus loved," and the Greek says that he took Mary "eis ta idia" = "To his own" people, place, etc.
As I say, it's not just a personal arrangement, but symbolizes something much bigger. It's not for nothing that John's Gospel begins with the wedding feast of Cana (Mary: "Do whatever he tells you") and ends with John taking Mary "eis ta idia".
In the Hebrew, it says “idols,” not “graven images”. An idol is an image of a false god. Mary is not a goddess, whether false or any other kind, so the verse you’re thinking of simply doesn’t apply.
Believed?
Last Days??
HMMMmmm...
Sounds like a press release from ROME!
Of course; Spanish savagery played NO part in the 'converting' at all.
(Spain learned SOMETHING from being subjected to Muslim rule for a while.)
Amen!
And if they can't make it all the way to her son; they can cling to her alone...
Bonaventure: â¦the gates of heaven will open to all who confide in the protection of Mary.
