Giant Virgin Mary Statue to be Erected Near Her Turkish Abode

The municipality of Selcuk, a town in western Turkey where Virgin Mary is believed to have spent her last days, plans to erect a giant statue dedicated to her in the fashion of the notable statue in Brazil depicting her son.

Virgin Mary House, a stone structure on the outskirts of Bulbul Mountain, is a popular spot among Christian pilgrims since its discovery in the 19th century. Looking to boost faith tourism revenues, Selcuk Mayor Zeynel Bakici said they would erect "a splendid statue" depicting the sacred figure, the same day he announced they were seeking to host an international faith tourism event next year. "Virgin Mary House receives 2.5 million visitors every year despite its authenticity while Portugal's Fatima hosts 5 million tourists every year," he said, referring to the town where the Virgin Mary is believed to have appeared to three children in 1917, making it a revered pilgrimage site. "We have to market our town better," he told a tourism event on Saturday.

The problem is that roman catholicism has invested so much effort in dogmatizing Mary that there is no way the rcc could ever admit its error on this.

It would lose too much face and too much money.

It would wreck the rcc.

Do you have a spiritual mother, father, brother, or sister who are not your natural family relatives ? Do you think you could have a spiritual mother ?

But Our Lady did have a view as she lived the last days of Her life

Oh?

Is this recorded in the Gospel according to Mary?

I think the real issue in play is that you have an antiCatholic bias and are not consistent in your approach to interpreting the scriptures.

I KNOW the real issue in play is that many FR Catholics have an anti-Protestant bias and are not consistent in their approach to admitting how Catholics of old interpreted the scriptures.

Actually, Muslims hold Mary in high regard, so the statue (if constructed) will probably go unmolested. Except maybe by the modern day Iconoclasts, ISIS. I can see them blowing up “the blasphemous idol”.

Well She lived in St John’s house after Jesus rose from the dead and there is a view there.I don’t think it’s in the Bible.

Local Christians say it is because of St. John that the Virgin Mary has a place—in Turkey as well. According to John’s Gospel, as Christ was on the cross, He looked down and saw His mother and John, known as “the disciple whom Jesus loved.” Christ told John, “Here is your mother,” and the Gospel says from then on, the disciple took Mary into his home (see Jn 19:25-27).

And where was that located?

Here?

The House of the Virgin Mary (Turkish: Meryem ana or Meryem Ana Evi, "Mother Mary's House") is a Catholic and Muslim shrine located on Mt. Koressos (Turkish: Bülbüldağı, "Mount Nightingale") in the vicinity of Ephesus, 7 kilometres (4.3 mi) from Selçuk in Turkey.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_of_the_Virgin_Mary

The house was discovered in the 19th century by following the descriptions in the reported visions of Blessed Anne Catherine Emmerich (1774 - 1824), a Roman Catholic nun and visionary

(Cue Outer Limits theme song...)

Christ told John, “Here is your mother,” and the Gospel says from then on, the disciple took Mary into his home (see Jn 19:25-27).

And then they moved to Turkey... But he replied to the man who told him, "Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?"

Mary is honored by Muslims. She is mentioned more often in the Quran than she is in the New Testament.

Define spiritual mother, father, etc.

Someone who you know, without a doubt, is a disciple of the Messiah, and to whom you look to as a mother, father, etc. in that they teach you, protect you, and love you (and you love them) in the LORD Jesus Christ, with Him being the chief cornerstone.

Too many catholic writings say so for you to try and deny it.

You are correct, there are too many Catholics who get carried away on praying to Mary, including clergy and religious. But when you are talking about more than a billion people, there are bound to be a few million who go beyond Catholic teaching.

The CCC disagrees with your statement that "there are bound to be a few million who go beyond catholic teaching." It is catholic teaching that catholics do indeed pray TO Mary.

CCC par. 2675, "Beginning with Mary's unique cooperation with the working of the Holy Spirit, the Churches developed their prayer to the holy Mother of God, centering it on the person of Christ manifested in His mysteries . . .

CCC 2679 Mary is the perfect Orans (pray-er), a figure of the Church. When we pray to her, we are adhering with her to the plan of the Father, who sends His Son to save all men. Like the beloved disciple we welcome Jesus' mother into our homes, for she has become the mother of all the living. We can pray with and to her. The prayer of the Church is sustained by the prayer of Mary and united with it in hope.
