DOCTRINE OF SALVATION BY WORKS Eph 2:9
Bible study notes | 1993 | R. B. Thieme, Jr.

DOCTRINE OF SALVATION BY WORKS

Eph 2:8-10

(8) For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

(9) Not of works, lest any man should boast.

(10) For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

  1. Definition.
    1. Salvation by works is a false doctrine which rejects God's grace policy in the provision of eternal salvation for the human race.
    2. Salvation by works rejects the total helplessness of mankind under real spiritual death. Real spiritual death not only means separation from God at birth and total depravity, but it also means helplessness to do anything about our status quo.
    3. Salvation by works makes the distinction between Christianity and religion.
      1. In Christianity, mankind is eternally saved through the work of God. God the Father planned it, God the Son executed it on the cross, and God the Holy Spirit reveals it.
      2. However in religion, man seeks to gain the approbation of God through some category of human works, self-sacrifice, personality, or energy of the flesh. Christianity is not a religion. In Christianity, God does the work and man is the beneficiary apart from any merit or any works.
    4. There are at least seven categories of salvation by works rejected by the Word of God, as in Eph 2:9, "It is not by works."

Perhaps, if we persist, then when Jesus Raptures away His Church and they are witness to so great a miracle explained to them before hand, perhaps then they will immediately call upon His name and believe He is the only means to Salvation.

I hope they do, and I suspect many of them will be gloriously saved. Praise God for that. They should be aware, however, that in my opinion, in the tribulation period, the cost of being a true Christian, as opposed to a fake Christian, but the cost will more than likely be a physical death sentence. Better late to the party, than not come to the party at all.

Nowhere does it say by “faith alone”

Make sure you tell God that if you meet Him.

Former Catholics understand the meaning of what it is intended to mean.

We just understand that it’s just empty words, it cannot affect anyone. In that sense, it’s meaningless.

You are correct MM. We ex Catholics have figured out the truth. Praise God for that. I know, some think we can't be ex Catholics. I got news for them. We can indeed.

BTW, perhaps you are all wondering why I called you together. I just wanted to say to you: CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS WIN. BLACKHAWKS WIN. BLACKHAWKS WIN. Third Stanley Cup in 6 years. The hat trick of Stanley Cups. 🇨🇦⚾️🏀⚽️🏈😊😆😃😀

Nowhere does it say by “faith alone”.

Doesn't have to say 'faith alone' for it to be there... Doesn't have to say Trinity for it to be there...If you spend any time at all in the epistles Paul wrote to the churches, you can't miss it...

That’s awesome Mark, but I stopped following Chicago sports after the Bears’ Super Bowl win in ‘85. Blackhawks?? They’re our badminton team, right? :)

Peace,

Justification occurs as an act of God’s Perfect Justice in check by His Perfect Righteousness.

We are born condemned, so something has to happen to us prior to anything being found righteous in us, i.e. justification.

Only God can justify us by judicially imputing that righteousness into us, prior to Him being free to give us eternal life by His grace, for Him to remain Holy.

The imputation of that righteousness occurs only by faith in what Christ performed on the Cross, because it is identified, exactly the same faith as His faith on the Cross. This is why it is much safer to rely on faith alone in Christ alone, than to convolute that faith with any work.

Rom 3:21-26
(21) But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets;
(22) Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:
(23) For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
(24) Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:
(25) Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;
(26) To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.

I think that many have a false faith and chose to ignore the words and actions of God.

I do hope that all find the Truth.

God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.

Very clearly stated in the Bible, Just like the Real Presence that you choose to ignore.

Faith alone, like sola scripture is just made up by a made up religion.

I do hope you find the Truth.

Romans 8:1 Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

Please note that this is the translation from the critical text, which cuts the stipulation of circumstances short, and leaves the reader permanently wondering what "in Christ Jesus" (dative of association) means.

The translation of the Received Text, however, leaves no speculation to the reader, for the Greek of the TR is complete, and provides the answer:

"There is therefore now no condemnation to them that are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after The Spirit" (Rom. 8:1 AV).

This satisfies the question of the kind of walk of the believer--it is spiritual, walking in the Spirit, following His guidance through the Word. Those who are walking in the works of the flesh are still under condemnation as those who make no profession at all.

Reading a little further in verse 4, we see that the righteousness of the law--not the works of the law--is fulfilled in us who are walking in the Spirit, who are in union with Christ Jesus as we walk.

This whole concept confounds those who would have us believe that doing the works of the law/flesh are required for justification to be a process of salvation.

Jesus has the ability to do whatever he says.

While Rome has the 'authority' to enforce 'belief' of things that are NOT recorded as Him saying.

But the preceding verse says, “What must WE do; to do the works of GOD?”

Nowhere does it say by “faith alone”.

Nowhere does it say by “Mary is sinless”.
