Gay marriage will split the Catholic Church
The Spectator ^ | 05-23-2015 | Damian Thompson

Ireland, for so long the most overtly Catholic state in Western Europe, has voted for gay marriage by a stupendous margin – 62 per cent. Never before has a country legalised the practice by popular vote.

It would be naive to ask: how could this happen? Hatred of the Church is one of the central features of modern Ireland, thanks not only to the paedophile scandals but also to the joyless quasi-Jansenist character of the Irish Church, which was handed complete control of education in the Free State after partition in 1922. (Many of its priests were outstandingly holy and charitable, but you’ll get your head bitten off if you suggest that in today’s anti-clerical republic.)

Anyway, I don’t want to focus on Ireland. Homosexuality as an issue is a greater threat to the Catholic Church worldwide than the sex abuse scandals. Here’s why:

Oh, well gay Americans will flock to it for a couple of seasons, I suppose. I never understood this attachment to Ireland, myself. They’ve practically been banned from San Diego, btw, as the exchange students there behaved so badly from drink and drugs that the residents of that cosmopolitan place had to plead with the city fathers to do something.

I, also, don’t like greenies who get off the boat and tell you right to your face how much they find America a dump and how stupid Americans are. The only nice ones are Irish waitresses in the NYC Irish pubs.

Indeed. It’s the height of intellectual dishonesty to think that Jesus, those who heard him in person, the authors of the gospels and the other books of the Bible and the original audience those books were initially intended for would’ve thought that marriage was anything but. Of course, in Biblical times there was polygyny(1 man to 2 or more women) but even in that error it still involved the original idea of 1 man to 1 woman.

Gay marriage will separate the sheep and goats.

We'll take the sheep and the goats... but we DON'T WANT THE IRISH!

What liberals have laid on the poor shoulders of Jesus. Oh, how I wish he was here today (in person!) Of course, the libs would crucify him all over again.

Well, while the gays are in Ireland, they aren’t here. Sort of a “win-win” for the rest of us.

It is worth noting that it is the only nation that has VOTED to make same sex marriage legal.
Every other one had it passed by a liberal controlled legislature or issued by the courts.
And it took decades of political pressure, me-too-ism by the Irish legislature thinking it had to mimic fascist dictates by other nation states and lots of external funding to make it happen.

They’d also re-behead Jesus’ cousin John The Baptist if he came back too while they were at it for his being intolerant and “insensitive” of Herod Antipas’ marriage to his brother’s wife-

Well the Presbyterians just voted gay marriage in here in the US.

The Presbyterian Church USA...(PCUSA)... They are not even Christian anymore ... The presbyterian denominations that hold to the Reformation teachings have not .. (OPC, PCA, EPC )

With the way Western culture is going, I figure it will soon be a “homophobic and heterosexist” crime for parents to procreate naturally without using artificial insemination, IVF and surrogates. After all, it’s “not fair” that 2 males cannot create a new life nor can 2 females but 1 male and 1 female can.

You asked if I was referring to the Roman Catholic Church. I replied that the author most likely was. I don’t see what you are driving at or its relevance to the topic of this thread. This is not a discussion about ecclessiolo9gy.

I think you’re right. The Church has been moving towards schism for awhile. It’s split along the lines of traditionalists and progressives. Acceptance of gay marriage will be what precipitates the Church into full schism. There will be a split. Not sure what will happen after that.

Just curious, do any of the Sedevacantists support redefining marriage as anything other than 1 man to 1 woman?

I figure they would all support the conservative/traditionalist side of this issue but nowadays one never knows.

If you don’t want to get inot a discussion on words, doen’t use words inour psot. I was looking for a definition of catholic, I assumed the writer was referring to rc’s, but was not sure.

No ecclessiolo9gy, what ever a ecclessiolo 9gy is.

I don’t know for sure. Don’t know much about this movement. I would think they do not support redefining marriage. Such an acceptance by the Church could swell their ranks.

I love how upper class Brits assume the whole world agrees with them.

uh, Asia, Africa, South America, red state USA don't agree. IF the church splits it will be because tho pope is siding with the elites who have struggled to take over the church to hijack it to support the one world order and their pseudo religion.

what is scary is that this was predicted back in the 1970s by David Wilkerson in the vision...
