Pope Francis has reportedly barred the nomination of a close aide of President Francois Hollande as new French ambassador to the Vatican because he is gay.
The apparent rejection calls into question the pope's reputation as holding more liberal views on homosexuality.
Laurent Stefanini, 54, a senior diplomat and Mr Hollande's chief of protocol, was nominated in early January but the Vatican has maintained a stony silence over whether it accepts his credentials, officials in Paris said.
The usual time frame for their acceptance is a month and a half. After that, a prolonged silence after a nomination is normally interpreted as a rejection.

The Left is trying to destroy Christianity. Or, at least, make the Pope accept whatever they want the pope to accept.
The Pope probably figured his Cardinals and Bishops didn’t need another boyfriend to fight over.
What happened?? The liberals had praised Francis, when he said of homosexuality, “Who am I to judge”? The liberals took this to mean that the church might eventually accept open homosexuality.
Now will the liberals turn on him? We’ll see.
So the Pope is ignoring the gay nomination hoping it goes away...?
How about just saying: No... but thanks anyway...
Send me someone who is not living in open sin...
“Tis a puzzlement”.
Good job. Them sending a homo was a deliberate provocation. It should have been met with a refusal. France was a jerk for doing this.
Don't give up the day job.

Diplomatic protocol in the Vatican is decidedly old school and very nuanced. In the Holy See the silent treatment pretty much amounts to exactly what you just wrote. It is a diplomatic rebuke that the French are likely to find all the more insulting because of the very ancien regime tone to the dismissal of their nominee.
Medieval email.
Philip IV and Pope Boniface VIII.
The Directory and Pope Pius VI.
Napoleon I and Pope Pius VII.
At least Pope Francis won't be beaten up or imprisoned if he refuses to kowtow to the French government.

Francis is not ‘hoping it goes away’.
He has formally rejected the gay French ‘ambassador’, which means the French will have to nominate another person, probably an Islamist.

When you submit your private affairs for public approval don’t be too surprised if you don’t get it.

In which case it may be sometime before France has diplomatic representation at the Holy See.
But...but would he bake him a cake?!?
No, since the Vatican believes that the Muslims adore the same God as we do, they will accept a Muslim.
Honestly, I think the RC Church is way over their quota for gays.
no tapping in the Vatican lavatories.
That’s an understatement, the French even had their own pope for a time.
