ORANGE COUNTY, CA (ANS - April 1, 2015) -- Dr. Robert H. Schuller, famed televangelist and founder of the Crystal Cathedral Ministries, is in critical condition in a Los Angeles-area nursing home and is not expected to make it through the week, family members said Tuesday (March 31, 2015).
This has been revealed in a story by Deepa Bharath, staff writer for the Orange County Register
Bharath said that according to his daughter-in-law, Donna Schuller, the reverend's condition has been deteriorating since he had an exploratory procedure in January examining his digestive tract.
Donna Schuller, a regular contributor to the ASSIST News Service (www.assistnews.net ), said her father-in-law is not on life support and is breathing on his own, but is extremely weak because has not "eaten for several days."
"He was talking normally a couple of months ago," she said. "But since the procedure, he was whispering. And later, he could barely mouth words."
He is asleep most of the time, but seems to be at peace, Donna Schuller said.
"He doesn't seem to be in pain," she said, choking up. "He's had a wonderful life and he'll pass gracefully."
About those who answered his altar call, I’ve known for years that he sent Catholics back to Rome. That’s shocking enough, but only recently I learned that he also sent Jews back to their synagogues.
Thats new to me
I don’t want to mislead, so I’m going to try to find the source for that. I’m certain I either heard or read it, but I’m not positive of the source. I know that his policy was to send Unitarians who made a “decision” back to the Unitarian church and Orthodox back to the Orthodox church, so it makes sense he would have done the same for Jews.
I just saw an article that he had died.
Interesting. He sounds like a truly righteous man.
I heard that as well...
I haven’t yet found my original source for that, but I did find a sermon by John Ashbrook, a man who was a ministerial student at Wheaton when Billy was there as a graduate student. In the sermon he mentions a rabbi who had a conversation with Billy Graham and then wrote an article. The rabbi said that Billy told him he did not stress the necessity of conversion for those Jews who would come forward at his crusades.

Later that same year in an interview with the San Francisco News dated September 21, 1957, Graham said, quote, Anyone who makes a decision at our meetings is seen later and referred to a local clergyman, Protestant, Catholic or Jewish, end quote.

Prayers for him.
Too late. He’s dead.
I’m guessing that Graham was referring to Messianic Jews. From the net I just found that Graham started a group called the Lausanne Convention or something way back when. With the goal of bringing Prots, Catholics and Jews together to bring Christ to all the world.
Here’s an excerpt of something relevant:
In 1999, the Lausanne Consultation on Jewish Evangelism held its sixth international conference from August 12-17 at Hofstra University on Long Island, NY. The 130 participants from around the world produced a Statement which defined Messianic believers as “Jewish” rather than Christian:
“Those of us who are Jewish share in the challenges confronting our people and stand with them in the need to strengthen and preserve our God-given identity. We also recognize that our faith in Yeshua is seen by many as a threat to Jewish identity and survival. Yet we believe that the core of Jewish identity is tied to a purpose and a divine calling that is fulfilled only in Yeshua—to be reconciled to God and to be a light to the nations for his glory. We therefore reject the commonly held view that Jews who believe in Jesus are no longer Jewish. . .Those of us who are Gentiles affirm that Jews who believe in Yeshua do not forfeit their Jewish identity. . .As Jews and Gentiles united by faith in Yeshua, we recognize the right of Jewish believers in Yeshua to maintain a recognizable Jewish.....

Yup, just caught that a minute ago when I hit “refresh” on the main page. RIP.
Yup. RIP indeed.
BTW, White Horse Inn has the audio of a very early interview with Rev. Schuller available.
I’ve heard that many times.
Just bizzare.
Maybe he was referring to Messianic Jews, but that doesn’t seem to be in accordance with other things I have read and heard. If he had no qualms about turning a sinner over to the Unitarians, I rather doubt he would have a problem with the local synagogue.
I think the problem with assessing Graham is much like the problem with Rick Warren. At times the message sounded perfectly orthodox (as far as it went), but put him in front of another group and the message would change.
I just listened. Wow. I can only hope his personal faith and theology changed toward the end.
I heard this interview on the White Horse Inn a few years ago. Made me cringe.
