ORANGE COUNTY, CA (ANS - April 1, 2015) -- Dr. Robert H. Schuller, famed televangelist and founder of the Crystal Cathedral Ministries, is in critical condition in a Los Angeles-area nursing home and is not expected to make it through the week, family members said Tuesday (March 31, 2015).

This has been revealed in a story by Deepa Bharath, staff writer for the Orange County Register

Bharath said that according to his daughter-in-law, Donna Schuller, the reverend's condition has been deteriorating since he had an exploratory procedure in January examining his digestive tract.

Donna Schuller, a regular contributor to the ASSIST News Service (www.assistnews.net ), said her father-in-law is not on life support and is breathing on his own, but is extremely weak because has not "eaten for several days."

"He was talking normally a couple of months ago," she said. "But since the procedure, he was whispering. And later, he could barely mouth words."

He is asleep most of the time, but seems to be at peace, Donna Schuller said.

"He doesn't seem to be in pain," she said, choking up. "He's had a wonderful life and he'll pass gracefully."

More from the above:

Donna Schuller said her husband, Dr. Robert A. Schuller, the son of Dr. Schuller, has a document detailing precisely how the older Schuller wants his memorial service to be held.

“He gave it to my husband 10 years ago,” she said. “Perfectionist that he is, I’m sure he has planned out and specified every little detail.”

Donna Schuller said passing during the holy Easter week would be a fitting exit for her father-in-law.

“He always did everything in a grand fashion,” she said. “It’s just like him.”

Dr. Robert. H. Schuller started the Garden Grove Community Church in 1955, renting the Orange Drive-In
Theatre and conducting services from a snack bar roof. As the congregation grew, the Protestant ministry began broadcasting its services through the “Hour of Power,” a syndicated TV program broadcast to millions of viewers worldwide.

In a separate story, the OC Register said that the Crystal Cathedral was dedicated in 1980. The cathedral and the grounds were sold in early 2012 for $57.5 million in bankruptcy-court proceedings to the Catholic Diocese of Orange. The facility has been renamed Christ Cathedral.

The ministry moved to St. Callistus Catholic Church about a mile away and is now called Shepherd’s Grove. Schuller’s grandson, Bobby Schuller, is now pastoring the church and is now the host of The Hour of Power TV telecast.

Although the name of the church is Shepherd’s Grove, the congregation’s corporate name continues to be Crystal Cathedral Ministries and continues to produce the “Hour of Power”
program.

Arvella Schuller, the wife of the Rev. Robert H. Schuller, who was said to be the force behind the church’s iconic “Hour of Power” television program, died in February of 2014 at the UCI Medical Center after a brief illness. She was 84.

Shepherd's Grove is an interesting choice of a name because shepherds are usually found in pastures, not groves. Just as Crystal Cathedral struck me as an odd name for a denomination that has no bishops.

I’m sure that if he thinks positively enough, he’ll be able to reverse it and recover.

Dr. Schuller is a fine man; he has changed many lives for the positive and he avoided the dreck of many mainline Protestant ministers today which is a social gospel where illegal aliens are undocumented, anything goes in your personal life and liberalism has replaced the Bible. But like too many, Dr. Schuller appeared to get caught up in fame and money, employing far too many family members and not paying attention to the cost of operating the Crystal Cathedral and his ministries; perhaps he lived too long. Not uncommon in the world of religion; he needed to take a page from Fulton J. Sheen.

I feel sorry for him. Based on the public evidence, he rejected the narrow way of his reformed fathers and embraced the broad path of positive self-improvement. Only yesterday I was listening to a sermon and the pastor mentioned that Robert Schuller believes Muslims will be saved. Of course I can’t know the true man or what has happened to him in recent years. I hope he re-read his Bible and came to see the foolishness of “Self-Love” and the “Self-Esteem Reformation” he once called for. I hope he came to understand what Christ meant when he said, “Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” In short, I hope he has been saved and is now trusting Christ and Christ alone.

My father lived in Garden Grove in the 50’s and 60’s and went to his drive-in church a few times. He has said that in his early days, Schuller actually preached a gospel message, but soon began to compromise. At that time, Dad was a young man, immature in his faith. I suspect a more mature Christian would have detected the seeds of Schuller’s apostasy from the outset. Because of that early exposure to his ministry, Dad used to occasionally watch him on television in dismay. He couldn’t believe the man spouting “possibility thinking” was the preacher he remembered.

“Shuller’s damage to the evangelical church in America is immeasurable...”

You got that right.

At least he exposed Billy Graham for the fraud he was/is. Got Billy to admit what he had been preaching for years that is you don’t need Jesus Christ for salvation. Him and Shuller are two peas in a pod.
If you wanna start a fight just show the video of Graham in Shullers “pulpit” or read the transcript to about any older “Christian” and watch the feathers fly.

Concerning Billy Graham, by the 50’s there was evidence he was going off-track. Some who worked in his ministry in the early days left his ministry because of it. Despite the well-chronicled evidence, many Evangelicals still defend him as if he was one of the original Twelve.

Yes you are correct. His compromises go way back. I researched him years ago and was shocked by the clearly documented evidence of him denying the exclusivity of Jesus Christ as the only way of Salvation.

There is a part of London called Shepherd's Bush.

Billy sold his soul for numbers.. inviting liberal , non evangelical pastors to participate and then told those answering his altar call to return to their churches..

Billy liked "visiting" the White House and being famous.. so much so he declared that Mormons were really Christians when Romney ran
