Senator Ted Cruzs presidential run is premised on the idea that, by speaking to the values of evangelical voters, he can mobilize them in numbers not seen in a very long time. Imagine instead millions of people of faith all across America coming out to the polls and voting our values, Cruz said yesterday, adding that these voters had been staying home.
Cruzs decision to announce his run at Liberty University is itself a sign that he hopes to assume the mantle of leading evangelical champion. And as Jon Ward puts it, Cruzs announcement was an attempt to lay down a marker with American evangelicals, to claim that he is their guy.
So heres something worth watching: How will the GOP primary debate over immigration reform, in particular, play among these voters?
One basic fact about immigration reform that continues to get lost in the noise is that evangelical Christians support it. Religion writer Sarah Posner recently reported on polling showing that a majority of evangelicals want Congress to pass immigration reform and support a path to citizenship. Evangelical leaders played a major (if largely ignored) role in the failed push for reform last year....

The author thinks Jim Jones is an evangelical too
Huckabee considers himself an Evangelical leader, so I suppose he speaks for the entire group. < / sarcasm >
“Religion writer Sarah Posner recently reported on polling showing that a majority of evangelicals want Congress to pass immigration reform and support a path to citizenship.”
That doesn’t mean it’s the right thing to do. Most religious institutions, including the Catholic Church, are woefully misinformed on this subject. At best, they have only one slice of the entire story.
This is where TC’s leadership will come in.
They never polled me, but I certainly believe in a "path to citizenship"...right back to the country in which they are actually a citizen. I'll be happy to show them that path!! Whoever is going to be the candidate needs to say, "No reform, just enforcement".
So called ....”IMMIGRATION REFORM” ............is a DEAD ISSUE until we have a Republican President, because we have a scoundral in the WH now who does not even get any resistance from a REPUBLICAN CONGRESS!!!!
The “evangelicals” the authoer is refering to are the lefty, non-Christian types.
Christians by and large want the rule of law enforced! Americans by and large want it enforced.
We would love a man or woman who would enforce the law and not try to make up new ones to skirt existing laws. It’s cutting thru the crap the media throws out there again principled people that is the problem. Crap like this piece.
I don’t believe it. Illegal immigration is illegal and should not be supported by Christians. I am born again and I don’t support it. We can be hospitable in a charitable sense but we should not commit public resources to this. Visitors to our country should obey civil laws and authorities. Public programs authorized by Congress should be targeted to American citizens and should feature policies which encourage citizens to improve themselves and to become self supporting to the maximum extent possible.
Ted Cruz supports legalization of those here illegally, he just does not support a Path to Citizenship.
Not that it matters much...once an illegal has a Drivers License and SSN, how do you stop them from registering and then voting?
You cannot. And that's what Heritage and Schafly and Coulter have been saying for months.
Yes, Cruz is the furthest right, but he would still allow the greatest disaster in the history of the nation to unfold unchecked.
Media into overdrive to find ANY way to discredit the man. The louder the invective, the more suitable a candidate he is.
...and support a path to citizenship.
The path already exists - for LEGAL immigrants.
Well I suppose you could say that I support immigration reform. I want to reform our actual practices so that we allow the INS to perform their jobs; that we stop illegal invasions; that we revoke 'anchor baby' auto-citizenship; that we basically act like a sovereign Nation (and like every other Nation in the world that protects their borders).
Yes, I am all for Immigration Reform, because our current practices are set-up to destroy a Nation's integrity and uniqueness.
You are referring to Cruz's proposed amendment to the 2013 Gang of Eight immigration bill. He did not support the Bill, only proposing no pathway to citizenship as a tactic.
Cruz would require securing the border before so much as talking about anything else.
Ignore everything from this creep
We need to know what is being said, lest it blindside us, is my belief.
So you want Ike to run for a third term? Two problems there: It’s illegal and he’s dead.
Everybody wants some form of reform: Illegals want reform to get more free stuff, employers want reform to hire more workers who are "off the books" with no FICA costs or OSHA or ..., some conservatives want reform to remove illegals and drug peddlers, some want reform to eliminate anchor babies citizenship, some want illegals to have a shortcut to citizenship, some want worker ID cards for legal migrant workers ... ad nausem.
Ted has only one problem on the issue and that is he has only one position, unlike his competitors.
I support immigration reform. But my reform involves slashing legal immigration, banning all immigration by muslims, sharply increasing deportation of illegals and building a wall on our southern border.
I’m on Cruz Control! Had my bumper sticker for 2 yrs.! America’s Bibi. Truth hurts liberal scum. This is our last chance to elect a Godly man of conviction. If Hitlery wins, it’s time for the reeducation camps and confiscated financial assets!
