10,000 people have lined the streets of Leicester. The cortege is loaded down with white roses thrown from the crowd. Better late than never, I say.

This is a link to the BBC blog about the cortege:

Farewell to the King

His reinterment is Thursday at Leicester Cathedral.

Now is the winter of our discontent
Made glorious summer by this sun of York;
And all the clouds that lour’d upon our house
In the deep bosom of the ocean buried.

Very interesting. Perhaps he's been forgiven for the Little Princes.

I recently watched "The White Queen" on Amazon. I know it's a fictionalized account, but the story was really quite interesting.

Of course, that generated some research on how things really played out. The most interesting thing I uncovered? That Henry's marriage to Elizabeth of York, which was purely political, ended up being something of a love match.

Also, Margaret Beaufort was every bit as driven and dedicated to Henry's cause as was depicted in the series.

I’m reading a biography of Henry VII right now. The author agrees that Henry and Elizabeth ended up with a genuinely affectionate relationship - largely because she was a really, really nice person ;-).

He went downhill after she died.

Yes, that aligns with the research I've done... which is not thesis level, just for my own education... when Elizabeth died, Henry went on a downward spiral from which he never recovered.

Apparently he went into a deep and honest mourning every year on the anniversary of her death. Not for "show" but genuinely tortured by the loss.

That’s what my book says.

He ended up doing a lot of harm, and there was general rejoicing at his death.
