From Psalm 112, we take our prayer for our military and our Nation today. We call Blessed those among us who fear the LORD, who find great delight in his commands. Our children will be mighty in the land; the generation of the upright will be blessed. Wealth and riches are in our houses, and our righteousness endures forever. Even in darkness light dawns for each one who has been made upright by the shed blood of Jesus. Because Your love is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit, lead each of us to be gracious and compassionate and righteous. Our brethren among the military and those in authority will never be shaken; they will be remembered forever.
As Your children, we confess that we will have no fear of bad news; because our hearts are steadfast, trusting in the LORD. Our hearts are secure, we will have no fear. In the end each military man and woman and each leader who stands for Your ways of doing and being right will look in triumph on their foes. They will be lifted high in honor. The wicked will see and be vexed, they will gnash their teeth and waste away; the longings of the wicked will come to nothing.
Amen.

Pablo Casals was considered to be the preeminent cellist of the first half of the 20th century. When he was still playing his cello in the middle of his tenth decade of life, a young reporter asked, Mr. Casals, you are 95 years old and the greatest cellist that ever lived. Why do you still practice 6 hours a day?
Mr. Casals answered, Because I think Im making progress.
What a great attitude! As believers in Christ, we should never be satisfied to think we have reached some self-proclaimed pinnacle of spiritual success, but rather continue to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ (2 Peter 3:18). Jesus reminds us in John 15:16 that He chose us to go and bear fruit. The result of healthy growth is continuing to bear spiritual fruit throughout our lives. Our Lord promises: I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit (v.5).
In a steady and faithful progression to become more and more like the One we love and serve, we can be confident that He who began a good work in us will continue it until it is finally finished on the day when He returns (Phil. 1:6).
John Quincy Adams - SIXTH PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES; DIPLOMAT; SECRETARY OF STATE; CONGRESSMAN"The hope of a Christian is inseparable from his faith. Whoever believes in the Divine inspiration of the Holy Scriptures must hope that the religion of Jesus shall prevail throughout the earth. Never since the foundation of the world have the prospects of mankind been more encouraging to that hope than they appear to be at the present time. And may the associated distribution of the Bible proceed and prosper till the Lord shall have made bare His holy arm in the eyes of all the nations, and all the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our God [Isaiah 52:10]. "In the chain of human events, the birthday of the nation is indissolubly linked with the birthday of the Savior. The Declaration of Independence laid the cornerstone of human government upon the first precepts of Christianity. (2)
