Is Prayer/Veneration/Worship to Mary Biblical?
self | 12-14-14 | ealgeone

The reason for this article is to determine if the worship/veneration given to Mary by the catholic church is justified from a Biblical perspective. This will be evaluated using the Biblical standard and not man’s standard.

From what I've read, Scripture doesn't record all that Jesus did while he walked the Earth.

So this FACT allows ROME to make up all KINDS of crazy stuff that is not found in the bible.

How would God, whose ways are not our ways, view this?

Why don't you ask HIM?

Our 'opinions' will NEVER satisfy you; will they?

For me, I don't have any real trouble thinking she is what is said of her and her task is as I wrote.

Even the things I'VE said?

Neither is in the scripture and the scripture teaches the opposite, plainly.

Oh?

Like the Mary doctrine your chosen religion teaches?

Is there anything in the Bible that says Scripture isn't the ultimate source?

Catholics WILL ignore...

 1 Corinthians 4:6
Now, brothers, I have applied these things to myself and Apollos for your benefit,
so that you may learn from us the meaning of the saying, "Do not go beyond what is written."
Then you will not take pride in one man over against another.

Why are we Protestants continually trying to uproot the tares?

JPX>No. It just seems that way because of the anti-Catholic squatters who church it on the religion forum on a daily basis. Whose form of Christian fellowship is to mock fellow Christians in posts to one another.<

bbYou seem to be forgetting the daily squatting and mocking FRoman Catholics rife on these threads. Not unexpected. Tell you what, when FRoman Catholics start their OWN website to compete with Free Republic, you can censure and prequalify anyone to your heart's desire. Then you won't have anything to complain about when people who don't buy into your version of Christianity defend their beliefs and stand up to what they see as a false and accursed gospel. Until then, you'll have to obey the rules here like everyone else and not backtalk the Religion Moderator when all he/she is trying to do is keep threads from launching into flame wars. Funny, how not only are the majority of Religion Forum threads posted BY Roman Catholics, they sure seem to make up the most of the whining and moaning comments attacking the RM for perceived bias whenever their making it personal comments get dinged!

There IS a solution! Either stay off OPEN Religion Forum threads if you cannot bear reading opposing views or go somewhere else. The Religion Mods put up with a LOT and they deserve respect. JR couldn't pay me enough to do it! We non-Caths have just as much right to post here as y'all do. Lump it or leave it.

Since I first posted this thread there have been at least 5-7 calls to have it pulled by catholics.

Why?

That tells me they don't want this false doctrine of worshipping Mary to be challenged. After reading the responses for the "defense" of this I can see why they don't want it challenged. Let's just say they've been less than convincing.

I have to remind them this is FREE REPUBLIC. If you don't want your beliefs questioned hide behind the caucus thread.

I for one have learned a lot from these open discussions.

Here are but a few of the MANY places one can read them for themselves:

BB....those links to the ECFs on faith alone were very insightful! It shows how far away from the truth the rcc has drifted.

>>I for one have learned a lot from these open discussions.<<

Same here. I always learn from these threads. As I observe the discussions I've noticed that some study scripture and others study "church doctrine". It's comes down to God's word or man's word.

Yep, watching from the sidelines and occasionally asking questions.

I am a lo-info Christian as I was not raised in church nor organized religion, though it's always been obvious to me that God exists.
Besides, watching you guys the other six days didn't give me a reason to hang with you on Sunday.

So...that was then, this is now, and here I am chatting with you and your multiple and characteristic posts.

Thanks for the True Life In God quote! To be honest, like most in the Protestant camps, I didn't think much at all about Mary other than at Christmas until reading TLIG.
To me, there is more to her than the Protestant point of view and I'm grateful to not have been raised in a bias one way or another.

Fwiw, TLIG has been quite a blessing to me and to my understanding, both of Scripture and about people and the world as it is now.

In fact, what I've learned reading TLIG (we agree on the actual Teacher) is one of the few reasons I've bothered to even sit on the sidelines of the War Between the Denominations, let alone ask questions, like now about Mary.

I wonder if he prayed to Mary. I wonder what was her reply.

Prays...then hides.

As for the doxology in particular, why would it be so hard to imagine Jesus did actually say it? It would have been the normal way to end such a prayer.

Good point. Adding to it, there is a logic that connects "lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil" WITH the doxology. In other words, we WANT to be delivered from the loser evil kingdom BECAUSE the winner kingdom will be GOD'S kingdom that is without end.

Don't lead us into temptation but deliver from evil for Yours in the Kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever.

So, the so-called 'doxology' is actually a rational completion of a thought.

what the apostles taught would you please show where the apostles taught the assumption of Mary

Apostle John taught that Mary is in heaven, with a crown, and fighting for the Church (Rev. 12). However, we don't' know the entirety of what the Apostles taught from scripture alone; this is why an authentic Christian should learn from what the Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church teaches through the entirety of time and not merely the written record of the canonical scripture.

if anyone taught a different gospel than they did we were to consider them accursed.

The teachings of Protestant charlatans from Luther on are indeed accursed. That is because unlike the Holy Church they contradicted the Gospels when they invented a "church" without priests and sacraments, and taught the counter-scriptural theories of Sola Scriptura and Sola Fide.

Excellent observation. What else can such a prayer be leading to anyway, but the glory of the sovereign God?  As was true in all things that Jesus did, and which should be our preoccupation as well.

Thanks,

SR

Just where in the Bible does she say she has no sin?

Where does it say she did sin? And remember, it would not be enough to show that she sinned in some small way. If the prooftext in Romans 3 is to be taken literally, she would not "seek after God", she would "deal deceitfully" with her tongue; her feet would be "swift to shed blood". So Mary, you guys believe, murdered someone in great haste. Amazing that no one recorded that.
