The reason for this article is to determine if the worship/veneration given to Mary by the catholic church is justified from a Biblical perspective. This will be evaluated using the Biblical standard and not mans standard.
Oops...
...ping.
Nosiness is a virtue in some contexts.
Like when you have daughters...or granddaughters, which I have plenty of, only one of which is old enough for her parents to engage in loving nosiness.
Is nosiness a virtue when talking about ducks, duck movies, and recalcitrant freepers? Not necessarily. But it can be fun.
We venerate that 'greatest generation' of World War II veterans. Our veneration reaches all the way to paying for those 'Honor Flights' that bring them to DC to see the WWII memorial.
An amazing word play isn’t it?
“So, you do think that believing is an important doctrinal point? Good. You have just affirmed sola fide.”
Nope. Affirming the importance of faith does not in any way affirm the doctrine of faith ALONE anymore than affirming the importance of scripture affirms the doctrine of scripture ALONE.
“And methodists didnt even exist during the protest and the reformation.”
Ever meet a 500 year old Lutheran? No, none? Me neither. By your logic, no Lutheran today is a Protestant. By your logic, no Lutheran from anything less than 400 years ago was not a Protestant. That’s not how reality works. So what? None of the Protestants today existed 115 years ago. None of them. That doesn’t mean they are not Protestants.
“They actually didnt truly exist until America and the revolution.”
They’re still Protestants nonetheless.
“They werent born of any protest against Catholicism; they were born of protest against King George.”
And they’re still Protestants - just like George III.
I do things on a "need to know" basis..I assumed that all good Freepers read every post in a thread that they posted on, therefore would have read my brilliant comments....might even have searched for them!
“You gotta keep both eyes peeled for those old retired proud Army Chaplains, vlad. They blindside you if you let ‘em.”
No, they don’t. Been there, done that.
“And they’re nosey.”
Not particularly.
“By your logic, no Lutheran from anything less than 400 years ago was not a Protestant.”
Should be, “By your logic, no Lutheran from anything less than 400 years ago was a Protestant.”
this is a cup of My Blood which will be shed for you...
did He shed wine???
That doesn't follow, my friend. Lutheranism WAS one of the protesting groups.
Methodists weren't one of the protesting groups....ever. Didn't arise because of it, didn't continue because of it.
And you are a believer in sola fide, sola gratia, solus Christus, and soli deo Gloria.
4/5th of the reformer's message.
You don't like "sola scriptura", but even you hold scripture in extremely high regard.
Get up off the floor...if the Catholic Church is inspired by the Holy Spirit to proclaim a truth, then YES all Catholics, and everyone else on Earth is expected to believe it.....we're dealing with God here you know.
----------------------------------------------------------- Wasn't? Was. And still is. First mentioned in Genesis. That's the first Book of the Bible, written LONG before the Catholic Church "GAVE" us the Bible lie. He is a part of the trinity, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. All three compose the one God. Mary gave birth to Jesus, the physical body. Not "God"...NOT Jesus, the Father, and the Holy Spirit.
WHERE ON EARTH DID YOU EVER GET THE IDEA THAT I DON'T THINK THAT JESUS WAS NOT GOD?????????????
Never happened, and Elsie says that is is disparaging to refer to someone without pinging them....mind your manners!
“That doesn’t follow, my friend. Lutheranism WAS one of the protesting groups.”
But according to your logic that doesn’t matter, my friend: “And methodists didnt even exist during the protest and the reformation.” Well, none of the Lutherans today existed then either, right?
“Methodists weren’t one of the protesting groups....ever.”
And ELCA is? The ELCA came about in 1988. Yes, it’s roots are older, but the ELCA certainly didn’t exist in 1520 or even 1600 or even in 1700 or even 1800 or even in 1900. DO you now see the problem with your logic.
“Didn’t arise because of it, didn’t continue because of it.”
And the ELCA didn’t “arise” because of it either, and “didn’t continue because of it” either but the ELCA is still Protestant.
“And you are a believer in sola fide, sola gratia, solus Christus, and soli deo Gloria.”
I don’t believe in sola fide. You can keep falsely claiming I am, but I’m not and I never will be. I have mentioned this more than once, but you keep making that false claim. Protestants apparently don’t value intellectual honesty.
“4/5th of the reformer’s message.”
Wow, you are struggling to make a sensible argument, aren’t you?
“You don’t like “sola scriptura”, but even you hold scripture in extremely high regard.”
I do hold scripture in high regard. I don’t hold heresies like sola fide or sola scriptura in high regard.
this statement was posted by a protestant....most of whom profess that personal interpretation of the Bible is perfectly O.K.....how many denominations are there now???
“Ya know, vlad. One could begin to draw the conclusion that you’re a sorta disagreeable person who just says the opposite of what select FReepers say to you regardless. Yes, one could. (No, they couldn’t?)”
Nope. I just state the truth again, and again, and again. If you get something right, I’ll agree with you. The reason why I have not agreed with you much is...well, you can figure that out.
