The reason for this article is to determine if the worship/veneration given to Mary by the catholic church is justified from a Biblical perspective. This will be evaluated using the Biblical standard and not mans standard.
CB, if there are games being played with words, it is by those who try to use words not in the bible as if they are in the bible.
Of?
Of the TV show.
:>)
Named?
Now that I think back, I may not have appeared in seasons 2 or 3.
But it wasn’t the same screenname that I use here on FR.
Season 4 was cut short after only three of the thirty-nine episodes scheduled, if memory serves me correctly.
I have learned more than I ever wanted to about Catholics on these threads. I have never seen so much hatred for other groups. Who in the world are they following? It sure isn’t Jesus. Do they really think they are going to heaven with so much hate? Merry Christmas. God bless.
But my memory has been playing tricks on me more and more lately. Maybe that was not I but rather someone else altogether.
I’ve even forgotten the first 300 years of history of the RCC, the OTC.
I suspect you are politely requesting anonymity on this one. That’s ok.
(But now it’s a challenge! lol)
“So, what about those Methodists and their quadrilateral: scripture, tradition, reason, experience?”
Protestants. They are Protestant in origin, leadership, doctrine, tradition.
“I understand you to be saying that Roman Catholics do not believe that a saved Catholic has to be a believer.”
Your “understanding” then is complete nonsense because I never said anything even remotely like that.
“If you are not saying that, then you affirm sola fide.”
False. It always amazes me how often Protestants come to completely erroneous conclusions like that. Not affirming the distorted view of salvation you put forward doe snot mean someone believes in another distorted view of salvation you’ve put forward.
I have not seen hate from Roman Catholics. We have the steadfast defenders of their faith, and they are direct, but even those few have never come close to expressing hate toward me.
Then there are those who are dear FRiends, such as wagglebee, narses, and salvation, who will disagree with my theologicalinterpretations, of course, but are good, friendly ambassadors for their cause. They are also huge allies and FRiends in the political realm here on Free Republic.
So, I’ve had no hate directed at me from Roman Catholics.
Then came...post number 2512.
So, you do think that believing is an important doctrinal point?
Good.
You have just affirmed ‘sola fide’.
And ‘methodists’ didn’t even exist during the protest and the reformation. They actually didn’t truly exist until America and the revolution. They weren’t born of any protest against Catholicism; they were born of protest against King George. LOL.
“Nope. Veneration means deep respect.”
And just where in Scripture do you see this distinction made, so that one
kneeling before a statue
and praising the entity it represented in the unseen world,
and as having Divine powers and glory,
and making offerings and beseeching such for Heavenly help,
directly accessed by mental prayer,
would simply be regarded as holy “veneration” except by pagans, in contrast to Biblical worship? . Were do you see even one of these actions, except by pagans. And do you really think this absence and contrast constitutes warrant for doctrine? If so, what cult do you belong to?
