Thanks - I was thinking of the shame of having a baby out-of-wedlock. Can also see the point on the availability of birth control.

A friend of ours bought their high-school aged boys boxes of condoms when they reached a certain age (16 or 17??) so they would have them available. I perhaps can see her point, but to me that seems a little too much like condoning the behaviour.

So far we have not had any problems with our kids. The “screw up and reap the consequences” discussions, with numerous examples from the news, stupid TV shows, and kids they know at school seems to be working well (that goes for drugs and booze too). That, and they really are good kids.

We have also made the point of using good examples of people that have made mistakes, but still having the baby and either putting it up for adoption to a loving family, or figuring out how to keep the baby. But, we also stress, especially in the case of my son, for so many things (driving, screwing around late at night, shooting, drinking, sex, etc.) - all it takes is ONE instance of stupidity and your life can be changed forever. Hopefully his acts of stupidity will be as full of grace as mine were when I was that young! (I have told him that as well - not sure how I’m still alive.)

I agree. There is no way in hades that 1/3 of the girls growing up in Christian homes are murdering their children. This has to be some trumped up bologna to get people fired up.

Re God forgiving “sin”...why is it that when it comes to the murder of OLDER hu man beings...we don’t hear people downplaying murder as mere “sin”...but when it comes to dismember ing THE most vulnerable..
It’s coated over like it was any ole “sin”...sorry but most “sins” don’t prept others from living

Thing is, college age kids are old enough to marry. That’s when most people used to get married.

And in the past, instead of an abortion, they’d get married and start their life.

And, that is Biblical.

Those who take birth control are as likely to have abortions, because birth control requires discipline, too. The commonality is the lack of discipline owing to the lack of shame in having sex. There is in fact more shame at being a virgin. The mene is that virginity is abnormal.

". . . they do not take birth control because they know they should not have premarital sex..."

What garbage. 95% plus of the people who have an abortion were using some form of contraception, the vast majority taking oral contraceptives in fact, and it failed them. People who don't give a damn about killing children with "contraceptives" don't give a damn about killing them with invasive measures either.

That's the bottom line in spite of all the BS people spew to excuse their behavior.

Protestant and Protestant derived Christian doctrines eventually rationalize whatever society accepts and the "Catholics" who rationalize their way around Church Doctrine are nothing but Protestants who don't leave the Church physically in spite of leaving it spiritually.

Most U.S. "Christians" accept only one doctrine; thou shalt rationalize going along to get along.

one reason in that we are all saved if we accept Jesus as the Son of God. John 3:16. also there is no judgment after we accept. Romans 8:1. Please do not be duped by the “professional Christian” that makes his house payment, car payment, 401k, and all his savings on the sheeple who think they must pay some dude as agent for God. Did you know that God possesses all on this Earth.? Did know that the word “church” was not added to the bible until the king James version re translation in 1648? Ekklesia” in Greek means “the called out”. I. e. all believers. There is no building— or preacher or church in the WORD of GOD. Those poor aborting baby killing women suffer only the guilt of killing of their little baby. But if they believe in Jesus, they go to Heaven.

No, they also suffer from the absence of their child the rest of their lives, as does the father of the child, whether or not he knows it. And they suffer potential lifelong physical damage.

This does not, of itself, prevent their eternal salvation, but these harms are nonetheless real.

It’s extremely common on FR to find people who are well on in middle age, who profess Christianity, reminiscing about their fornicating years as the best time of their lives.

I have seen such threads many times.

so I spoke with a recent graduate of the same university about her thoughts

Nothing like a verifiable source to make a story believable.

Planned Parenthood used to put this pie chart—maybe they still do—showing the various causes of pregnancy, such as “contraceptive failure.”

This was news to me, as I had always thought there was only one cause of pregnancy.

Good points. I am strengthened by your agreement on the salvation of all believers— Otherwise — we are all doomed by what ever sin is which is painfully undefined by the “Church”.God speed.

Why do you put the word sin in quotes?

It seems reasonable to me that two Christians might get together intending just to go to "first or second base" and end up reaching home. Since they're Christians who never intended on going all the way it would make sense that she wasn't on the pill, and neither had a contraceptive device at hand.

I'm sure this happens a lot of times.

It's similar to the good Christian who has never had a drink, takes a sip just to see what it tastes like, and ends up on a bender that would make a frat boy blanch.

No one seems to be rationalizing this as OK, just explaining a logical sequence of events that occurs on many occasions.

That something as simple and enticing as a sex act can lead to such momentous consequences is humbling. That lots of young people, professed Christian or not, end up making the wrong choice is both understandable and tragic.

“I suspect one in three women on campus have had an abortion,”

I suspect this student is taking through her hat.

I think I will go ask the guy down at the corner what he thinks people in the city are having for dinner and write an article about it as if it were fact.

This is terrible! Who let sinners into the church?

it is fruitless to ask God for forgiveness and then repeat the same behavior over and over and over and.....
