“The Geneva Bible is not. Nor are the NASB or ESV among others. The KJV is based on the Received Text while most other English versions on the Critical Text”.

And you can find a study guide for every one of them.

Please post a conversion story from a well-know Catholic theologian who came to the conclusion that Catholicism was wrong and protestantism was right. Don’t need to read stories from former Catholic priests that couldn’t follow the faith for whatever reason so they now they go around attempting to justify why they left instead of saying the truth and the truth which is they became worldly and wanted out. So give me a that story of a well-known Catholic theologian who said the Catholic Church was wrong and protestantism was right. If you can’t don’t bother answering back.

“Seems the RCC isn’t doing such a great job of catechizing its members”.

And that’s the precise reason you left the faith. Devout Catholics don’t jump ship. Lukewarm ones do. The ones that never believed to start with. Thanks for answering my question.

I met Jesus.

It wasn’t that I wasn’t well indoctrinated.

I met the Truth and He set me free.

I can see where you're coming from and certainly the Scripture passage in question doesn't say that the church is clothed in white because of the righteous deeds of anyone. In other words it's erroneous to claim the white clothing of the bride of Christ is because of deeds done by her members by their own power.

Note the portion in bold because it's key to understanding the Catholic understanding here. My Bible (from iPieta, I don't know what version that is maybe someone does) says in Rev 19:8 "the justification of the saints [clothes the church in white]"

Here we can see what you were saying but I think even clearer and with understanding congruent with Catholic teaching: what clothes the church as the bride of Christ in white are the saints who are justified by Christ. That is, made right by Him (which is what justification is).

How is one "justified by Christ" is the key question to answer here. We Catholics say one is so justified when one accepts Jesus as one's savior and cooperates with such grace by avoiding sin and all its occasions. That is the "justifications of the saints" in Rev 19:8. When one cooperates with God (Jesus) to transform ones life from sin to righteousness one becomes justified. And this is what clothes the church in fine white linens. A love for God and His ways over our ways (which is sin).

I don't see how this could be argued but I guess there always is a way.

How can poor Catholics ever claim to have mastered the Word of God of like the Catholic-haters on FR.

HaHa...You don't master the bible by studying Plato...

"FR wouldn't be able to handle the bandwidth of the number of stories of people who left Catholicism for Christ."

Now there is true statement. I personally know dozens, but don't see the point in trotting out such statistics.

I agree. When I want to see what godly men have to say I go with the older commentaries. Matthew Henry and Gill. They were spared the liberalism of the 19th and 20th centuries.

Received a Thompsom Chain many years ago as a gift. Having the OT references cited where they are used in the NT is good, but as years went on, I knew them and don’t really need a chain reference. For beginners a good deal.

Sorry:) All those years in the Army, I just figured their chain of command would act.

Not exactly. You can find separate commentaries on most Bibles including your NABRE, and also the Eastern Orthodox Bible.

In the age of E-readers, tablets and apps it is easy to link in footnotes and hyperlink commentary if the reader so desires.

The tablets or mobile devices also make it easy to carry an entire library around on one device.

Perhaps you are right no Catholic theologian has left the Catholic church. But the liberal theologians within your walls want to overthrow the pope and the hierarchy from within. The following link is 2 years ago. It shows the growing liberalism within the Roman Catholic church, and the failure to police up the error: Catholic theologian preaches revolution to end church's 'authoritarian' rule

Justification by cooperation?

Isn’t that semi-pelagian?

Or do you see it as “synergism?”

Your double standard is duly noted.
