"That's usually what Catholics would like us to focus on. It's so much easier than looking at the entire passage isn't it? Let's look at it all.

1 Timothy 3:2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach; 3 Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous; 4 One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity; 5 (For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)

Now, what were you saying?"

------------------------------------------------------------

Well, it's good to see that you are at least admitting here that the Bible plainly teaches (as you clearly show in your post) that the Church founded by Jesus Christ should have bishops, and that God has given those bishops the responsibility of taking care of the true Church founded by Jesus Christ.

(That precisely illustrates one of the very serious problems with the erroneous philosophy that teaches that Christians should just be lone wolves and pikers, floating around here, there, and everywhere, without any bishops to take care of their "church".)

Here's a simple request, CynicalBear.    Can you please tell us the name of your bishop?

"Now isn't that pretty ignorant??? You write a book for people to read but then you have to interpret to them what it means since they can't understand what you wrote??? Do you guys ever think about the things you are inclined to repeat from your religion???"

With that kind of specious logic, it would be sufficient to write an algebra textbook, and just hand it to all the 9th-graders and tell them to go read it and learn algebra, and have absolutely no need for any instructors to teach algebra to those high-school students.

The Scriptures offer beautiful simplicity, and at the same time, deep spiritual profundity, and the Holy Spirit tells us in the Bible that some should be "teachers" (not just Bible-readers), as God says teachers are necessary (see St. Paul's letters to the Ephesians and the Corinthians).

Mrs. Don-o, you should become the spokeswoman/speechwriter/interpreter for Pope Francis!

(Your clarity and erudition is refreshing and inspirational.)

Have to go now.    Goodnight to all.

I would like to see the open religion forums closed. It disgraces Free Republic. There is nothing in them about faith or God or anything important. All I see is Catholic bashing. These people don’t seem to have anything to offer that would be pleasing to God. Nothing. Why would anyone want to be a Christian after reading one of these threads? It scandalizes believers. It’s a disgrace.

Apparently you are a Catholic...We non Catholics post scripture after scripture pertaining to those things you mention...You obviously don't bother to read them because they are NOT IMPORTANT...Scripture is not so meaningless to Christians...

Scripture is very important to us and other Christians and especially to God...

Rom_10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Gal_3:2 This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?

Gal_3:5 He therefore that ministereth to you the Spirit, and worketh miracles among you, doeth he it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?

>>that the Church founded by Jesus Christ should have bishops, and that God has given those bishops the responsibility of taking care of the true Church founded by Jesus Christ.<<

Your premise is built on error. Jesus did not set up a hierarchy. The Catholic Church has totally corrupted the meaning of what an "elder" in the assmebly is. Besides, the leadership in the Catholic Church isn't even qualified to be in leadership per Paul. So no, I didn't admit anything.

You can declare all you want. I show from scrioture and the words of the Catholic Church that they are pagan which God considers evil.

The bible was written with language that any 1st year algebra student can understand...

The problem comes from not believing it...

A good analogy would be like an algebra teacher giving the students an algebra book and then claiming they should ignore what's in the book because 2+2 actually equals 9...And that you have to be a teacher to know that...

Sure, algebra teachers have to teach, what's in the book...Catholic teachers do not teach what's in the book...

It's not correct the the Holy Spirit tells some that they SHOULD BE teachers.. The Holy Spirit gives some in the church the GIFT of teaching, which is not the same thing at all as telling believers that they cannot understand Scripture without teachers to *interpret* Scripture for them.

Yet, without the Holy Spirit, all the teachers in the world are not going to help someone understand the word of God.

Spiritual truths are spiritually discerned. The Holy Spirit is the one who gives men understanding, not other men.

That's $90,909 per victim. I think this figure shows exactly how contrite the Catholic Pedophile Protection Unit is about this abuse. Eighty-eight kids and no one else at the school knew a thing.

Mice nuts. Barely enough to buy a Tesla.

8 million split 88 ways ... in China they consider 8 to be a lucky number ...

What Catholic bashing is going on?

Endlessly trolling with the sole purpose of pointing out instances that YOU HAVE PERSONALLY determined where the Catholic Church deviates from Scriptural teaching, based on a distorted interpretation of the bible relying on erroneous protestant translations from the 1600’s is indeed Catholic bashing.

Oo, a bash the church thread for crimes some of her members committed decades ago before all the present day reforms?

Members?

Good way to TRY to minimize the FACT that the 'members' were High ranking authorities in that church!

The Catholic Church is the ONE, TRUE FAITH established by Christ himself, without the Catholic Church you would still be praying to the sun God.

Do the Sun God's worshippers try to COVER UP sins of IT's high ranking officials?

Oh?It MEANS that he can't have TWO (or more) at a time.

Too bad your chosen religion has TAUGHT you wrong.

And Catholics who post threads about Protestantism by individuals who determined THEY found Protestantism wanting would be called what, then, in your book?

Catholic double standard coming into play in 3....2....1.....
