The Age of the Universe The '6' Days of Creation
For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of Hashem as the waters cover the seabed.
Habakkuk 2, 14 & Isaiah 11, 9
In the six hundredth year of the sixth [millennium], the gateways of heavenly wisdom and the fountains of lower wisdom will be opened, and the world will be uplifted to prepare for the ascension of the seventh [millennium]...
Zohar I, 117a
The formula for calculating the age of the universe was written by Moses and it's recorded in Tehillim 90.
Tehillim Chapter 90 JPS
90:1 A Prayer of Moses the man of God. L-rd, Thou hast been our dwelling-place in all generations.
90:2 Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever Thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, Thou art God.
90:3 Thou turnest man to contrition; and sayest: 'Return, ye children of men.'
90:4 For a thousand years in Thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night.
90:5 Thou carriest them away as with a flood; they are as a sleep; in the morning they are like grass which groweth up.
Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever Thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting...
Basically the formula is 1 day = 1000 years and 1000 years = 1 day.
As a matter of fact in the 13th century Rabbi Isaac of Acco published his calculations based on Tehillim 90. I'm following his footsteps in that respect but I am substituting lunar year numbers for the solar year numbers used in his calculations.
Rabbi Isaac estimated the age of the universe to be 15,340,500,000 years old.
Note: The parameters of this formula differ from cosmology. Cosmology measures from the big bang to the current time, my calculations measure from the Tzimtzum to the 6th millennium.
See notes:
The Lunar Year
The length of the lunar year is 354.37 days.
Why the lunar year? The Hebrew word for year is shanah, and the gemetria (Hebrew math) of shanah is 355.
Shin = 300
Nun = 50
Hei =5
In order no less
The Calculations
1 day = 1000 years
1000 years = 1 day
354.37 x 1000 = 354370 (one year, of days)
354370 x 7000 = 2480590000 (one week, of days)
2480590000 x 6 = 14883540000 (6 millennium)
14,883,540,000 (from the Tzimtzum to the 6th millennium)
Amazingly I've recently discovered that these results have a mathematical seal.
The key is in 'reducing the numbers.'
Ironically one reduces numbers by adding them together until you arrive at a single digit.
Example: 12345 1+2+3+4+5 = 15, 1+5 = 6
Now on to the results.
14,883,540,000 1+4+8+8+3+5+4 = 33. 3+3 = 6 days! (millennium)
So does this formula work with 5 millennium? Let's shorten this process up...
2480590000 x 5 = 12402950000
1+2+4+0+2+9+5 = 23, 2+3 = 5 days.
4 Millennium?
2480590000 x 4 = 9922360000
9+9+2+2+3+6 = 31, 3+1 = 4 days.
3 Millennium?
2480590000 x 3 = 7441770000
7+4+4+1+7+7 = 30, 3 + 0 = 3 days.
2 Millennium?
2480590000 x 2 = 4961180000
4+9+6+1+1+8 = 29, 2 + 9 =11, 1+1 = 2 days.
1 Millennium?
2480590000 x 1 = 2480590000
2+4+8+0+5+9 = 28, 2 + 8= 10, 1+0 = 1 day.
7 to round out the week! Why stop now?
2480590000 x 7 = 17364130000
1+7+3+6+4+1+3 = 25, 2 + 5 = 7 days!
The seven days of creation!
It works with 8 and 9 millennium as well.
I have no doubt the sages were aware of the lunar year numbers. Why they did not employ them you'd have to ask them. Perhaps Daniel 12, 4 was their motive.
But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end; many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.'
Seal the book, to the time of the end...
Mordechai ben Avram

According to the master Kabbalist, Rabbi Isaac of Acco, when counting the years of these cycles, one must not use an ordinary physical year, but rather, a divine year (Otzar Chaim 86b). The Midrash says that each divine day is a thousand years, basing this on the verse, "A thousand years in Your sight are as but yesterday", Psalm 90:4 (Bereshit Rabbah 8:2, Zohar 2: 145b, Sanhedrin 97a). Since each year contains 365.25 days, a divine year would be 365,250 years long. According to this, each cycle of seven thousand divine years would consist of 2,556,750,000 earthly years. This figure of 2.5 billion years is very close to the scientific estimate as to the length of time that life has existed on earth. If we assume that the seventh cycle began with the Biblical account of creation, then this would have occurred when the universe was 15,340,500,000 years old. This is very close to the scientific estimate that the expansion of the universe began some 15 billion years ago." - Taken from Sefer Yetzirah, commentary by Rabbi Aryeh Kaplan, published by Weiser- 1997, page 186.

A lunar calendar is a calendar that is based on cycles of the lunar phase. Because there are about twelve lunations (synodic months) in a solar year, this period (354.37 days) is sometimes referred to as a lunar year.

The 'Big Bang Theory' is less than one hundred years old but the story is in Kabbalah and is called 'The Shattering of the Vessels'
2480590000 x 7 = 17364130000
1+7+3+6+4+1+3 = 25, 2 + 5 = 7 days!
“The seven days of creation!”
Wait... I thought it was 6.
I heard the boys are back in town.
I thought everything was 23?
It almost reads like English . . . but I can’t quite put my finger on it.
This reminds me of the old joke about the CEO hiring an accountant. He asked each one: “What’s 2+2?” The first three applicants all replied: Four! The next applicant sits down. CEO: “What 2+2?” The applicant slides his chair closer and quietly asks: “What do you want it to be?” He got the job.
It looks like this accountant is still at work!
Well, this is an article from the Jewish perspective.
I think, when you refuse to accept the obvious answer, the Gospel, then you often go further and further afield in search of other answers. First, you might scour the Torah, then the Rabbinical writings, then the mystical stuff like Kabbalah. Plenty of Jews keep searching until they wander away from God’s Word entirely and wind up chasing philosophy, Buddhism, or New Age nonsense. All because they are not satisfied with the answer God gave them, and think they might find a better one for themselves if they just keep looking.
Of course the gentile unbelievers do the same things, but it’s a bit sadder when God’s people do it, since they are so close to the truth to begin with.
“Beware the deadly black tarantula.”
Pete: “Do not seek the treasure!”
Delmar: “We thought you were a toad!”
We love Hugh Ross & his wife Kathy. We have been to Hugh’s Sunday School class many times in California, and when they come to Houston, we go to hear him speak there too. I do not always agree with Hugh, even though his IQ is a trillion times higher than mine.
What is crazy, my husband doesn’t believe the world was created in 6 days as the Bible says it was. But he believes people did live hundreds of years, and that Sarah had a baby at age 80. I am right the opposite. I believe if God had wanted to He could have created the world in less than a nano second. But I don’t believe Sarah had a baby at age 80.
The good thing for us is that none of this matters. The only theological question is WHY. Not when, where, how, etc. WHY did God create us? That is the question.
Wow, you said in one sentence what I was trying to say in a paragraph. GREAT JOB!
On what day did Lucifer fall?
I heard Chuck Smith pose this question once regarding 6 day creation. I’d be curious to know your answer.
Delmar said, “we thought you was a toad” his grammar wasn’t so great! LOL
and
Everything except Jesus.
He was really into Baha'i
Nope. It’s 42. Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.
Before the creation of the Universe, Satan was in heaven. Heaven was already there. It is not part of our physical universe. The laws of Physics do not apply to heaven.
I knew Chuck Smith and Hugh Ross.
I still can’t look at a photo of Chuck, or think of him without crying. He was our son’s pastor in Costa Mesa. We were so blessed to go to hear him right before we moved back to Texas from California. He was there with Franklin Graham for a huge outdoor revival. It was wonderful.
The day that my son told me Chuck died, I put on my CD player and the song that came on was “Heaven, I’m in heaven, And my heart beats so that I can hardly speak And I seem to find the happiness I seek...
Now any time I think of Chuck, that song comes into my head. What a great man, he lead thousands, maybe millions to Christ. All because he started a church in So Calif to surfers who had no church, and it grew to so many campuses.
We were there for a service one time when they were blessing the children. One little toddler girl was crying uncontrollably. Chuck went up to her and whispered something to her, with his huge smile on his face. She stopped crying, and didn’t cry anymore during that service. He had a magic touch with all ages.
My husband was in the hospital today for outpatient back surgery, epidural injection. He is in so much pain he cannot sit, stand, walk, lay down without great pain. So many things wrong with his back. While he was prepped for surgery and waiting for his doctor to arrive, he read a whole Chuck Smith book.
When Chuck passed away my son said that the world was making a big fuss over Nelson Mandela’s passing, yet because of Chuck’s lifelong dedication/ministry thousands of souls will be with us in heaven.
As I said how many days or hours or a fraction of a nanosecond it took God to create the world, matters not. All that matters is that we are all Saved By Grace Alone, Gospel Alone, Faith Alone.
We have all sinned and some short of the Glory of God. There is nothing we can DO to win salvation, it was already won for us by Christ on the cross, and in His resurrection. We cannot add one whit to it.
But it is FUN to think in human terms of how God created the world, and when, and how long, etc. But it doesn’t matter. I don’t base my faith on human trivia. That is all it is, trivia.
But the Bible says God created the world in 6 days, and on the 7th day He rested, and until GOD Himself tells me otherwise, I will believe the Word Of God and not the trifles of man.
I already said that... 42...
several posts back
A big problem with such theories is that they tend to upstage the gospel. John 3:16 does not go away or lose its meaning as a result of any details we may get about events that dont impact us here and now.
Old earth ... new earth .... it doesn’t matter to me. A lot of people will question creation (or question God). I usually tell them that I have faith that Jesus rose from the dead after three days. Therefore, I believe God can do a lot of things beyond our comprehension.
God is outside of time. This doesn’t matter. He could have folded “time” as we know it back on itself a million times in one “so called” day. He did create light after all.
How many of us even understand the most basic Quantum Physics, yet we claim to know how God did this thing and could not have done that thing?
