No reason to be perplexed. Cdl Dolan is closing all the “traditional” parishes he can, both those where “Traditional” refers to the Tridentine Rite mass, and those where “traditional” refers to an old-line parish church that New Yorkers have been attending for generations.
And it doesn’t matter if they’re ok financially. Dolan just doesn’t want them. He wants the neutral suburban mega-church model implanted in New York City.
Never liked Dolan. Don’t trust him as far as I can throw up.
According to an article on this subject yesterday, this church had recently raised $350,000 to restore a mural behind the altar that dated back to the 1870s. Personally, I think anyone who donates a penny to any kind of major restoration project in a parish church is crazy. These people don’t give a sh!t about the parishioners who give their hard-earned money to these efforts, and they have no qualms about closing a place down after a fortune was spent to do this kind of work.
