According to an article on this subject yesterday, this church had recently raised $350,000 to restore a mural behind the altar that dated back to the 1870s. Personally, I think anyone who donates a penny to any kind of major restoration project in a parish church is crazy. These people don’t give a sh!t about the parishioners who give their hard-earned money to these efforts, and they have no qualms about closing a place down after a fortune was spent to do this kind of work.
The parish and its priests care, but the diocese surely doesn’t. Especially with Dolan. I suspect that he wants to sell these properties and make a pretty penny. Virtually all of them, from what I can see, are in areas that are about to experience significant growth.
