Q: My daughter stopped practicing her faith and was married to a protestant in his church. Now she has come back, and her protestant husband is preparing to become a Catholic too, next Easter. They understand that their marriage isnt valid in the eyes of the Catholic Church, but the parish priest told them he can just bless their marriage and it will be all right. Can that possibly be true? Eamon

Don’t worry.....the rcc will find one verse and twist the tar out of it to make it fit.
OK. That does clear it up a lot.
This is where I appear to fall off of accepted Christian doctrine.
The most important miracle of Jesus was that He made God change his mind. Before Jesus, all sinners went to hell.
The miracle of Jesus was redemption. God allowed no redemption prior to Jesus. With the exception of those(none) that committed no sin, we all went to hell..Noah, Moses, Soloman, etc...they all went to hell.
If our lives are the will of God, then why would there be a Judgement Day? If our lives are God's will, what are we to judged for?
We do not fall because of God's will, and neither does the sparrow. God has high hopes for us, but the failings, and fallings, are ours, not God's.
I truly enjoy this subject, and would very much appreciate your take on it.

And thank you and God bless you for your honesty.
So what exactly is the big deal about having the Catholic church recognize a marriage?
My marriage is valid and legitimate without the Catholic church condescendingly “approving” it.
Kind of ironic, isn’t it, that the Catholic church does not consider Any non-Catholic marriages as being legitimate or valid, except when a Catholic wants to marry said divorced non- Catholic.
Then they need to pay for an annulment.
Can you say “hypocrisy”?
It is in the Bible. Look it up.(I hope I don't get "unpoped" for that)
I am so happy for you. Who is the Church compared to God? However; I have been "unpoped", so watch out.
well, as I’m coming to understand it, the Catholic Church recognizes your marriage, assuming you and your Protestant husband were married in a church of your denomination. What they don’t recognize is the marriage of a Catholic in another church, and they don’t recognize the divorce of anyone married in any church. I guess that’s fair as it relates to their own followers, and their right to administer their sacraments.
The RCC’s problem is that GOD is the one who ordains marriage.
The RCC adding its stamp of approval to something already recognized by God is meaningless.
It’s a “Me too,” kind of thing.
Yes. Yes!! Not the government. Not the Church. Not the homosexual community. Not even Obama!!
Only God can bless, or ordain, a true marriage.
Finally a Catholic who is honest about who they pray to. Thank you for that. It's a "shortcut" CB. Just like "CB" is a shortcut for CynicalBear. But I bet you understood who I meant when I said CB. :) We pray to Mary and to the saints and to the angels (for their intercession). Other Catholics understand this; they don't need to be told the prayers are for intercession each and every time someone mentions prayer. In fact, it would be ridiculous to do so. It's sort of like a Cubs fan saying to another, "I'm going to see the Cubs play today in Chicago at Wrigley Field." The last three words of the sentence would usually be left off, as the other Cubs fan knows where the Cubs play baseball.
The reason I'm asking is marriage has been around a LOT longer than the Catholic church and is found in ALL societies (in some shape or form) even before writing was invented. It is a contract, of sorts, between a man and woman - often involving both families - and is binding on both husband and wife. That was why divorce was invented - a man couldn't just walk off and the marriage made invalid. In America a state marriage license is required prior to when a marriage ceremony/rite is performed (blood tests used to be done along with the application) and the marriage is considered just as valid and just as legally binding whether it is a priest, minister, pastor, rabbi, imam or justice of the peace/notary public said the words and heard the vows.
So, talking about churches giving their "blessings" is more about feelings than it is about validity. Do you agree?
Possibly...
And then there is TRADITION; when what GOD has had written in the Book is just not enough.
I've always wondered why Joseph didn't get an annulment from Mary.
After all; the Roman Catholic Church teaches that she never did consummate their marriage.
Was a blessing given?
Pope Stephen VI (896897), who had his predecessor Pope Formosus exhumed, tried, de-fingered, briefly reburied, and thrown in the Tiber.[1]
Pope John XII (955964), who gave land to a mistress, murdered several people, and was killed by a man who caught him in bed with his wife.
Pope Benedict IX (10321044, 1045, 10471048), who "sold" the Papacy
Pope Boniface VIII (12941303), who is lampooned in Dante's Divine Comedy
Pope Urban VI (13781389), who complained that he did not hear enough screaming when Cardinals who had conspired against him were tortured.[2]
Pope Alexander VI (14921503), a Borgia, who was guilty of nepotism and whose unattended corpse swelled until it could barely fit in a coffin.[3]
Pope Leo X (15131521), a spendthrift member of the Medici family who once spent 1/7 of his predecessors' reserves on a single ceremony[4]
Pope Clement VII (15231534), also a Medici, whose power-politicking with France, Spain, and Germany got Rome sacked.
In the church that Christ FOUNDED??
