When I, a cradle Catholic, am accosted by a born again Christian, and asked whether I am saved, my thoughts usually go to St. Pauls frequent admonitions to work out your salvation in fear and trembling. Even St. Paul, after having been raised to the seventh heaven, felt it necessary to chastise his body, lest he become a castaway. (1Cor. 9:27)
The conviction that one is saved may be the result of a powerful religious experience. (Catholics have those too!) But people sometimes interpret it like Freud, as something psychological, or just some friendly divine encouragement to keep trying, or perhaps as a sign of Gods mercy in spite of ones sins.
Personally, I am convinced that, if two-thirds of the angels, who never had to suffer, and had clear insight into what would happen if they rebelled, were saved (Rev. 12:4) certainly at least that percentage or more of us humans, working our way with limited vision through suffering and often messy lives and bad choices, will be saved. Of course, I try to stand clear of the universal salvation heresy of Origen and others, condemned at the Council of Constantinople in 543.
That said, it seems to me that Protestants are really missing out on the multiform assistance that the Church could provide, if they were open to it.

1 Corinthians 12:25
“Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit”
Ah hah! We’re finally getting somewhere. A protestant that actually believes you have to be BORN OF THE WATER AND THE SPIRIT”!!
Praise the Lord, there is hope for some on FR!
It comes from the Bible compiled by the Catholics. Say “Thank You!”
Do you understand transubstantiation?
Christ turned the bread into his Body. He turned the wine into his Blood by transferring the substance of his Body and Blood but not the appearance of his Body and Blood.
tran=transfer
substantiation=substance.
Are you saying that Christ does not have power and authority over the Bread and the wine?
You do remember that he is Jesus Christ, God with us, don’t you?
Only if they are forgiven.
You said you believed only in Jesus and the rest was the rest is fluff and noise.
So I asked you if you believe or do not believe in the Holy Spirit. Simple connection.....sorry it baffled you.
Now for the kjv. That’s where the word priest got taken out.
Sorry that you do not believe in the power and authority of Jesus Christ, God with us.
Back to post #15.
“Now for the kjv. Thats where the word priest got taken out”
Did I quote from the KJV ?
No, I used a translation accepted by the Roman Catholic Church in both the United states and Canada. Furthermore had I tried to use New American Bible on the Vatican web site.
I have now managed to make it work for me after a fashion but its a very old bit of code they are using. This is not an accusation I understand using older code so older systems can use it, one of the approved browsers for the Vatican system is Mosaic.
Here are all the passages in the New Testament that contain the word priesthood in the NAB - Hosted on the Vatican Web site
Heb 7:5
The descendants of Levi who receive the office of priesthood have a commandment according to the law to exact tithes from the people, that is, from their brothers, although they also have come from the loins of Abraha
Heb 7:11
If, then, perfection came through the levitical priesthood, on the basis of which the people received the law, what need would there still have been for another priest to arise according to the order of Melchizedek, and not reckoned according to the order of Aaron?
Heb 7:12
When there is a change of priesthood, there is necessarily a change of law as well.
Heb 7:24
but he, because he remains forever, has a priesthood that does not pass away.
2 Pet 2:5
and, like living stones, let yourselves be built 4 into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
2 Pet 2:9
But you are “a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people of his own, so that you may announce the praises” of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.
All these passages refer to the ending the old High Priesthood and the founding of Christ’s eternal and perfect High Priesthood. Then that all followers of Christ are the royal and holy Priesthood with Christ as the High Priest.
Just as I thought. A lot of quotes with the word “priesthood” in them. But where is the word “priest.”
That was to point I was trying to make. In the KJV the words, elder or presbyter were substituted for the word “Priest.”
Eye-opening bias, isn’t it?

Only through the Sacrament of Penance/Reconciliation does someone know for sure that their sins are forgiven.
There is a story about two guys who worked in an office; one was an active Catholic and the other was a lapsed Catholic.
The active guy badgered the other one for a long time and finally got him to go to an evening Mass with him.
While they were there the active Catholic saw that the priest was in the Confessional and encouraged his friend to go to Confession, but he refused.
Undaunted the first guy DID go to Confession.
After the Mass as they were driving home they were both killed in a terrible auto accident.
The lapsed Catholic saw all his sins flash in front of him as God sent him away.
The active Catholic then asked God, “Aren’t I going to see all my sins, too?” God said, “What sins? I don’t remember — you went to confession and I forgot your sins when I forgave them — after you confessed them.”
Catechism of the Catholic Church
1449 The formula of absolution used in the Latin Church expresses the essential elements of this sacrament: the Father of mercies is the source of all forgiveness. He effects the reconciliation of sinners through the Passover of his Son and the gift of his Spirit, through the prayer and ministry of the Church:
God, the Father of mercies, |
Where does the Bible say that?
Galatians says that any other gospel than the gospel of the grace of Christ is twice cursed (Gal 1:6-9).
Baptism is a sign of regeneration and cleansing of the believer. After you have accepted Jesus Christ as your savior you are then baptised with water and the Holy Spirit! Water signifies new birth in Christ. Your sins have been “washed away”. You start anew..........
you said, "Are you saying that you dont believe in the Holy Spirit to guide you day by day?"
implying that Jesus has nothing to do with the Holy Spirit.
sorry...not going to play your game.
have a nice day.
read the thread’plenty of’people have posted specific verses.
there sure as hell isn’t a quote saying you gotta be roman catholic to be saved. and if you think there is i’d like to see it.
