Need a ham operator for one hour per month able to reach Africa. Preacher says some areas can only receive short wave. More details if someone is interested in helping.
made me think that we need a ham operator at every church in the event of a homeland security shutdown of cell phone towers.
Does your church have missionaries where you are trying to reach?
Interesting venture, I hope fellow FReepers give you the info you need.
Yes, our group is already working on getting several members HAM tech license.
I bet there is a HAM Radio Ping List or something, maybe these guys would know.

Preacher said he has been looking and did not think it would be a problem, but it seems that it is a problem. He is not your average preacher and calls it like he sees it, and has stepped on some toes in a big way.
Don’t have the link handy but the FCC has a list of operators in any given area on the website. Useful for keeping track if anyone breaks the rules.
Back in the day, missionaries with radio amateur licenses, or who had people with radio amateur licenses, would get on 14.300 MHz to connect with hams stateside who would deliver messages, or set up phone patches. I used to be a “net control” but that was a long time ago. It may still be running, AFAIK.

I don’t know, think he wants to reach people in very remote areas that have no other source. We broadcast into 86 countries now, so says the preacher.
Back in the 60s and 70s our town’s eye doctor, Dr. Wernerberg was a very active member of the Angels network. It was a Southern Baptist Ham network which kept in touch with missionaries.
Probably no longer exists but who knows?

Ping...
Thanks. Found a guy in Ky who gives the exams, will put the preacher, or myself if asked to, in contact with him.
I used to get on one they called the halo net, on 21.390. It was mostly for the missionaries in South America, trying to pass messages back to the states. I just lost interest in Ham radio 20 years ago. I have never gotten the interest back again.
W1AW is transmitting CW training exercises and other QST one-way. I don't think they are above the law.
IIRC, what is not permitted is commercial use of amateur service. Use of ham radio for connection with remote missions likely falls into that category. They would be better off using Skype. An HF link across half of the planet is not easy, and it cannot be established on demand.
They put names and addresses.

Your info is in there too if you look by call sign. Shows you as HA-Amateur.
