Archdiocese of Boston Issues Statement on Harvard Black Mass

This is the official statement, in full:

The Catholic community in the Archdiocese of Boston expresses its deep sadness and strong opposition to the plan to stage a “black mass” on the campus of Harvard University in Cambridge.

For the good of the Catholic faithful and all people, the Church provides clear teaching concerning Satanic worship. This activity separates people from God and the human community, it is contrary to charity and goodness, and it places participants dangerously close to destructive works of evil.

In a recent statement, Pope Francis warned of the danger of being naïve about or underestimating the power of Satan, whose evil is too often tragically present in our midst. We call upon all believers and people of good will to join us in prayer for those who are involved in this event, that they may come to appreciate the gravity of their actions, and in asking Harvard to disassociate itself from this activity.

To Mrs. Don-o: A great question to contemplate. What does it mean that Satanists believe in the Real Presence, but other Christians don’t? That would be a great philosophical and theological discussion, if it could be kept civil.

> I’m confused as to why hosts consecrated by a Christian church would be important to satanists?<

No need to be confused. Satan knows very well who Christ is and also knows very well His presence in the Eucharist.

LOL!

Satan is the most likely “presence” in the eucharist. That is who the false ‘priests’ serve.

Satan knows full well that the catholic ‘priesthood’ is of his own doing.

I put it largely to the difference in knowledge and intelligence. The rebellious unseen entities were originally created with very high intelligence, and, as they say, "El Diablo sabe aun mas por viejo que por diablo." (The devil knows even more from being old, than from being a devil.")

Satan and his demons know everything we know about "theology," and more. They know Jesus is the Son of God and Savior of the World. They know he validity of every Sacrament. They know Truth. They just hate it, that's all.

Christians who don't recognize the Real Presence in the Blessed Sacrament are not motivated by malice, as Satan is. They --- most all of them, I reckon --- genuinely love God and love all the many indications and modes of His presence --- and there are many --- but just are not sufficiently unaware of His great and promised Eucharistic Gift, which is Himself.

I can hardly blame them, since so-called believing Catholics (and I include myself in this number) are such poor examples of devotion, zeal and goodness. Lord have mercy.

Why do you permit Communion in the hand in the first place? I can’t imagine a Catholic allowing that to happen.

I have contemplated this myself a number of times, and asked it of several Non-Catholic Christians on this site.

None of them ever gave me a civil reply.

The USCCB allows it, and sadly our Bishop is liberal. I stopped receiving in the hand a number of years ago and now avail myself of the kneelers, instead of genuflecting.

“You won’t find Satanists wasting their time messing with non Catholic/Orthodox religious objects which are merely symbolic.”

I question a part of your declaration. It is my belief that Orthodox Churches also believe in the real presence of Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist. Also, that the Eastern Orthodox Churches broke away from Rome, and that they had duly consecrated bishops that were part of what is called a ‘schism’. For that reason, the unbroken line of Orthodox bishops from the apostles, I thought that their Eucharist is also considered to be the “real presence of Christ.”

Maybe someone can clarify this for me. As for Satanists wanting a consecrated host from a Catholic church, I think it is because in the USA, a Catholic church is the most prevalent source of a consecrated host. I suspect that Satanists in Eastern Europe would utilize a host from an Orthodox church. Their target is a consecrated host from a valid Holy Mass which was performed by a priest in the unbroken line from Jesus and his apostles.

Does anyone have another perspective on this?

I think a reasonable answer from Non-Catholics would be that since Catholicism is the largest Christian denomination, and has a physical object for devotion, what better way to reject God than to desecrate what over a billion people hold as sacred.

However, the theological and philosophical questions have gone unanswered.

You are agreeing with Mrs. Don-O. The “/” indicated BOTH Roman Catholic AND Orthodox, not leaving the Orthodox out.

I am ignorant of how Satanist ply their activity in outside of the US, but wouldn’t be surprised if your assertion is correct.

I'm sorry, Gumdrop, I misled you by writing unclearly. That sentence is supposed to mean, "You won’t find Satanists wasting their time messing with non-Catholic or non-Orthodox religious objects which are merely symbolic." The point is that the Catholics and the Orthodox both assert the "True Presence" under the Eucharistic forms, no matter what term they use for it.

The Catholic Church recognizes all the Sacraments of the Church, and the Apostolic Succession, as valid in the Orthodox Church, despite the historic schism.

So yes, genuine Satanists (not just obnoxious pranksters) in predominantly Orthodox countries would be maliciously motivated to desecrate the Sacred Person of Christ under the forms of the Orthodox Eucharist.

Its was hard of hearing to his followers too.

They too questioned how this man could give them his flesh to eat. Jn 6:52

You forgot to read verse 63.

You’ve been had, eternally. No chance at salvation for eucharist pagans.
