Is Harvard hosting a Black Mass?—UPDATED
The Deacon's Bench ^ | May 7, 2014 | Deacon Greg Kendra

Posted on 05/07/2014 2:17:22 PM PDT by NYer

This has popped up on Facebook in several places, so it seems worth noting.

Several bloggers have gotten emails announcing this event for next week, and Women of Grace has details:

The Harvard Extension Cultural Studies Club is hosting a black mass on May 12 to be staged by The Satanic Temple and which will include a consecrated host.

According to a press release from The Satanic Temple, they plan on presenting the black mass at the Queens Head Pub in Memorial Hall, 45 Quincy Street, Cambridge, MA along with “an academic narration that explores the ritual’s unique history and practice.”

Priya Dua, of The Satanic Temple’s Public Relations office confirmed to us in an e-mail that “Yes, there will be a consecrated host at the black mass.”

This sounds, frankly, incredible. If it’s true, this is horrifying.

If it’s true.

The only source for this, right now, is The Satanic Temple, through its emails and flyers that have been posted around Harvard.

I could find no listing online for the “Harvard Extension Cultural Studies Club” — and the website for the Harvard Extension School lists nothing about this event or the “Cultural Studies Club.”

The website for the Queens Head Pub, likewise, lists nothing about this event. The pub, in fact, says it’s closed for the summer.

According to the report at Women of Grace, no one at Harvard has responded to requests for an interview about this, let alone confirmed it.

Again, the only confirmation comes from one source: the “Public Relations Office” of The Satanic Temple.

FWIW, The Satanic Temple is reportedly the same operation involved in erecting that statue of Satan in Oklahoma.

Add it all up, and I’d take all this with a grain of salt until Harvard or a second source can confirm that this event is real.

Meantime: I see my pal Elizabeth Scalia is having similar thoughts.

Stay tuned.

9: 45 am UPDATE: The Harvard Extension School says on its Facebook page, “We are looking into this and will share more information as we have it.”

11:15 am UPDATE: The Harvard Extension School has issued a statement. Tellingly, the school does not mention that the “controversial student event” includes a Satanic ritual that mimics and mocks a sacred liturgy, the Catholic Mass. How brave of them.

The statement:

An independent student organization, the Harvard Extension Cultural Studies Club, plans to host a controversial student event.

Students at Harvard Extension School, like students at colleges across the nation, organize and operate a number of independent student organizations, representing a wide range of student interests.

Harvard Extension School does not endorse the views or activities of any independent student organization. But we do support the rights of our students and faculty to speak and assemble freely.

In this case, we understand that this independent student organization, the Cultural Studies Club, is hosting a series of events—including a Shinto tea ceremony, a Shaker exhibition, and a Buddhist presentation on meditation—as part of a student-led effort to explore different cultures.

Media inquiries should be directed to Jeff Neal, jeff_neal@harvard.edu, in the Harvard University Public Affairs and Communications Office.

Looking to Satanists for validation that their particular faith group is true?

A tortured analysis, Alex.

Satanic rituals require consecrated hosts. Only they suffice. If the psychological aim which you suggest held water, it could be achieved just as easily with an unconsecrated host, or something approximating the appearance thereof, since who could tell the difference? There would be no need to go to the trouble of breaking into Churches or sneaking them out at Communion time.

This is more than just play-acting. There is a significant amount of anecdotal evidence that those deeply immersed in Satanism can actually pick out a consecrated host amidst unconsecrated duplicates. Which should come as no surprise to anyone who believes that (i) Satanists are serious (ii) some are endowed with supernatural powers and (iii) the consecrated host is actually what the Church has always claimed it to be.

They're worshiping Satan. Period. Asking for his Satanic benediction. For that, they require consecrated hosts. It's that simple.

Nobody is "looking" to Satanists. They're sending a message to which some are tone deaf.

Their worship requires the inversion of the sacred.

It's not hard.

Don't feel left out. Satanists have their own Bible, too. It's called the Satanic Bible. They invert everything sacred. This includes the Bible, the cross and anything else which takes their fancy.

However, the absolute apex of Satanic profanity is the Black Mass. That should tell you something.

And, from that web site link ...

“Students at Harvard Extension School, like students at colleges across the nation, organize and operate a number of independent student organizations, representing a wide range of student interests.

OK.

Now, can we see if the Shinto “re-enactment” condemns the Japanese culture by white face and makeup, ridicules their ceremony, flushes the rice paper or burns their scroll and pisses in the teapot?

Does Harvard approve flushing the Koran or spitting on the meteorite stuck in a white column in Mecca; does it approve of piling camel dung on the cartoon image of Mohamed?

I would think that if the elements are truly the blood and body of Jesus Satanists couldn't get anywhere near it!

Believe me...I don't feel "left out". If their exploits tell me anything it's that they hate everything that can be tied to God in a positive way - be it Judaism OR Christianity. They pick out distinctly Catholic things because of the historical presence of the Roman Catholic Church and its dominance of the Christian experience. The key is to NOT allow them to outrage, offend or send us on a rampage - the very thing they WANT to happen. Having a "Black Mass" is not something that is new to those who seek to worship Satan. That they do so is not to say that they are affirming Catholicism - just trying to get the biggest bang for their intentionally pagan buck.

Even back in the times of the Old Testament Jewish patriarchs, Satan worshipers operated and copied many of the rituals God ordained to His people. One example was the offering of the "first fruits" to God. A Jewish man would dedicate his firstborn son to the Lord. But to the pagan gods such as Baal, Moloch, Ashteroth and others (demons, in reality), adherents would actually sacrifice their firstborn children upon their altars of fire or by the sword, putting to death their children to offer to their gods. Satan has ALWAYS tried to counterfeit what God has ordained as good and his M.O. is to place himself above God in all things.

I truly pity Satanists because they mistakenly think, "I'm going to hell anyway, might as well get in good with the guy in charge down there." They don't realize that they have swallowed a lie, because the Devil hates mankind and he will be the one worst punished in hell - far from in charge.

The reason I think that many people who follow Satan probably came from a Catholic background is because they do not understand anything about the grace and love of God and only see Him as hard, cruel, vengeful and harsh. They don't know that going to heaven is based upon faith in Jesus Christ and His righteousness rather than in their own righteousness and having to earn or deserve to go to heaven. They think they are going to hell anyway because they are "bad" and can't ever "get right with God" - but they have been misled and don't know that God loves them and wants them to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. They need our prayers, our genuine care and to hear the true gospel of the grace of God - not our sneers, hatred or scorn. We need to see each individual as God sees them and to never give up on anyone. Always we should hate the sin but love the sinner.

And I would think that line of thought derives quite naturally from the Calvinist view of the Almighty....... :-)

If there's no free will and God simply overpowers us, it's reasonable to believe that He's not going to take the insults and profanations of perverse humans.

IOW, there are certain presuppositions involved in your statement.

I think all Harvard alumni who are Christian need to send an email to them about possibly withholding any more money if they go ahead with this Satan worship nonsense.

Rather, it is tortured analysis to presume a "consecrated" host contains a captured Jesus, unable to prevent his own desecration. No matter what "anecdotal" evidence there is, and I think it's questionable at best, the whole purpose of their ritual is one of blasphemy - and INTENTIONALLY outrageous to Christians. Just because some Satanist sneaks out a communion wafer to use in his ritualistic worship doesn't make the wafer truly God as if He is powerless to prevent it. Be reasonable. It's for SHOW. It's to get a reaction. And even IF Satan sits in on the show, it still doesn't mean he is getting something over God. It's sad that people think he can.

Masons sneak out hosts too. A friend followed one who took a consecrated host and put it in a book. She knew the person and went to his house and asked for it. He gave it to her and she consumed it in front of him as I understand.

Be reasonable.

??? A religion that believes a sweaty Galilean carpenter covered in spittle and blood and nailed to a tree ... is God Almighty in human form, may be many things, but "reasonable" is not one of them.

The argument that the Jesus in the Host would never let Himself be desecrated sounds a lot like the argument that Jesus, if he were really God, would never let himself be killed on the cross.

Imagine that! You'd think that someone who was "deeply immersed in Catholicism" would be able to do at least the same thing. Yep, that's quite the psy-ops operation these Satanists have got going. Gossip is a powerful tool.
