At least a good friend, a life-long Episcopalian, was not allowed to marry in the Episcopal Church, in the 21st century, because one of the parties was divorced...

Not sure how to take your post, so I'll choose black & white. Your close friend may well have been tyring to marry in 1 of the "continuing Anglican churches" which broke away from ECUSA/TEC. Some of them are very orthodox and will not marry a divorced person.
This is not an attack, but you’re still an Episcopalian??
