Two weeks after a Nashville Dominican nun spoke to students at one of North Carolina’s largest Catholic schools and delivered a presentation critical of homosexuality, diocesan and school officials offered apologies at a meeting attended by an estimated 900 parents.
“Many said that” the first part of Sister Jane Dominic Laurel’s presentation at Charlotte Catholic High School “was excellent and fully in line with the Catholic faith,” said Father Roger Arnsparger, the Diocese of Charlotte’s vicar of education, as quoted on the diocesan newspaper’s website.
“There was unfortunately a misunderstanding about the content of the last part of the presentation,” he continued. “In that part, I understand that Sister used data from the Linacre Quarterly, a reputable journal, and from other sources. That data can be debated and, in fact, is debated back and forth by scholars who are researching the areas of human sexuality. Because of the ongoing debate, it would have been better if these studies and data were omitted from the presentation to the students.”
The school’s dean of students and two assistant principals apologized for not informing parents about the presentation beforehand. (The school’s principal was placed on leave in March amid reports of mishandling of funds.) “Parents should have been better informed,” said David Hains, spokesman for the Diocese of Charlotte, according to the Charlotte Observer.
At the parent meeting, “there were comments from parents who supported the school and the assembly, but most of the comments were critical,” the diocesan newspaper reported. “Many parents’ emotions boiled over, with arguments even carrying over into the school’s parking lot when the meeting ended after two hours.”
“Two observers called the meeting’s climate ‘disrespectful’ and ‘hate-filled,’” the report added. Parents who sought to defend the priest responsible for the nun’s speaking engagement “were shouted down by other people.”
The Charlotte Observer reported that the Nashville Dominicans have canceled Sister Laurel’s speaking engagement at the Diocese of Charlotte’s upcoming youth conference.
“They felt like this just wasn’t a good time for the sister to speak again in the diocese,” said Hains.

This is utterly insane. In fact, it’s insane on so many levels that one scarcely knows where to begin.
That supposedly Catholic parents in a supposedly Catholic school environment should openly object to and nearly riot about what the sister said in the first place is jaw dropping, and that the bishop - who is officially the teacher of his diocese - should grovel to them is simply beyond comprehension.
It makes more sense when you understand that most diocesan Catholic schools are business establishments first and foremost — and that any “Catholic” identity is a secondary consideration.

I took a look at Linacre Quarterly, and I think I see some articles which could put the Gay Establishment in a tizzy, like On the Psychogenesis of Homosexuality :

The efforts of the last few decades to find evidence to support a biological theory have made it more doubtful than ever that such evidence will be found. These people have been brain-washed. They MUST be confronted and told the truth over and over again until it finally sinks in. If that doesn’t work they need to be told to STFU!

What the Gay Community doesn’t understand is what they call hate we call love, tough love because we want them to find God.

This is why I have often stated that the Roman Catholic church in America is in schism.
Either you follow the stated doctrine, or you are not part of the church body. Now there are parishes and dioceses that do, but there are many who do not.
Many of my family members are Catholic. Some view homosexual normalization and abortion as things the church should fight for, and their parishes and dioceses agree. Some view that as disordered and murder, and their parishes agree.
So which is the “real” Catholic church in the USA?

I don’t have any proof, but my children attend Catholic school. If all the families with “Obama 2012” stickers on their cars and all the people who enroll their children primarily for the sports withdrew their children, there wouldn’t be many students left, and I suspect the school would not last long.
Frankly, I’d be a bit upset if my 14 year old boy was in an assembly where the speaker professed that masturbation would make him gay. I’d like to have those conversations at my house, not at a school assembly.

I have said for years that if my faith was dependent upon the faithfulness of the US bishops, as a group, I would have been an atheist years ago.
Fortunately, there are some faithful bishops, but they are in the minority. Maybe someday...

When a local bishop was going around explaining the changes to the Mass, he was amazed that that there was support for it at one venue. It was because it was a school (run by a group of traditional parents not the Diocese). He said at every other school there was opposition because of the lack of “gender inclusive” language.

I'm not sure the parents are Catholic. If the school is anything like the ones I'm familiar with a good many of the parents are not Catholic and they are sending their kids to the Catholic school for reasons other than a Catholic education.
The Catholic schools are safer than the public schools. They have better discipline and sometimes better sports programs. The Catholic school is usually cheaper than the other private schools.
Many of these parents want all the Catholic school offers without the Catholic education.
