Former Syracuse Catholic Church to Become Islamic Mosque

SYRACUSE -- Syracuse's Holy Trinity has a new owner, and some major changes are coming for the former Roman Catholic church.

As we first reported on Monday, the church, rectory and its old school, currently used for refugee and immigration programs, have been sold to the North Side Learning Center, a North McBride Street-based all-volunteer organization founded in 2009.

Dr. Yusuf Soule, who heads up North Side Learning Center, confirms that his not for profit program has bought the campus and will lease the former church to a new Islamic society, which will name it 'Mosque of Jesus the Son of Mary' (Masjit Isa Ibn Maryam). The group is already working in the sanctuary, which Soule says has leaks in the walls and flooring after being vacant almost four years. Pews and benches, as well as the Christian symbols inside, have already been removed.

North Side Learning has filed with the Landmark Preservation Board to remove the crosses from the steeples and grounds. The reason, in the petitions, "Due to new usage of the church as a place of worship for other religious group than used previously, where crosses on the building are not in line with the worshipping practices."

Just turn the crosses upside down like Allah prefers it. Problem solved.

A simple problem easily solved by the expert application of explosives.
NOT that I am in any advocating anyone doing this.

Just sayin...

Just as happened in Carnegie, PA. A former Presbyterian Church on the same street with about a dozen bars.

Did the original church leave for a new structure, or simply die out?

From the article excerpt:

new Islamic society, which will name it 'Mosque of Jesus the Son of Mary'

Well, that's as close as they can come to Jesus' correct title "Son of God."

This is how I confute the Islamists who try to tell me that "we have the same God."

I simply tell them forcefully, "That cannot be, because Allah had no Son." (In Turkishness that is "Alla'hin Oglu Yoktur.")

That absolutely enrages them.

If I can, I give them the dictionary definition of the word "heathen," which is "a person whose god is not the God of the Bible," just to make the issue real clear.

Based on recent events in Seattle and elsewhere, the closing of Catholic schools and parishes will have little impact on Christianity. Many have almost completely become Democratic Party strongholds with little if any allegiance to Catholic doctrine, moral or theological. And I speak as an ex-catholic.

I’d be tempted to sprinkle holy water everywhere before departing— in drawers, crevices, everywhere.

I’m not sure where this former church is located, but there’s a big square in Syracuse with a good-sized monument dedicated to Christopher Columbus by the local Italian community. Probably the parishes had to be consolidated.

Jesus’ correct title “Son of God.”

.
So you don’t think that that is also a correct title?

You must not believe in the incarnation.

You must not believe in the incarnation.

You assume a little too much as to my position and that of the Islamists.

Though Jesus was born of Mary, that does not make Him Divine.
Having The God as His Father, being of the same Substance, and preexisting Mary, does.
The Muslims are trying to avoid His Divinity, in which they do not believe.

My belief, also from Scripture, is that Mary had other children of Joseph,
but they were not divine from conception in the flesh.

If Mary had other children, wouldn’t one or more stand with her in her darkest moment?

Why even mention Muslims? The Jews do not accept Jesus’ divinity either — if they did, they would be Christians.

But getting back to basics: Your mom, when she was pregnant with you was mother of your total person i.e. your body and soul.

Mary, when she was pregnant with Jesus was also mother of His Whole Person — Body, Soul and Divinity. Not just mother of Body and Soul. Hence Catholics give Mary the title of Mother of God. They know full well that Jesus’ divinity does not find it’s origin in Mary. Sheesh, you think we are all ignorant?

By the way, the title “Mother of God” was already used in the 2nd century. It was only 14 centuries later during the Protestant Reformation that this title was questioned.

I guess Catholics were in error for 15 centuries until Protestants came on the scene and shined the light of truth on this misunderstanding. Yeah right.

I believe your sarcasm is actually a truth. The title "Mother of God" for Mary is not a Scriptural term. I believe it is the theological invention of errant men to support a Christological mistake.

Jesus' flesh was not begotten of Mary's fallen Adamic flesh. Jesus was entirely conceived of the Holy Ghost and not of Mary, in my opinion of the entire context of the Bible. Mary could not supply the Y-chromosome determining His masculinity, so why should Mary be needed to supply the remainder of His material chemistry?

The immaculateness of Mary's own conception is another figment of human philosophy to ignorantly justify theological error, when the actual biological principles were not understood until recently.

Rather than just accept on faith that Mary, not being Divinity personified, needed a Savior (Lk. 1:47), the Greek-trained philosophers manufactured a logical unscriptural explanation to account a phenomenon not given to them to explain, to satisfy the requirements of their soulish unchristian disciplines.

By faith, I accept that it is enough that she was deemed uniquely fit enough in character and devotion to be a holy vessel for God's use in the fullness of time.

I say so with reverence.

Mary supplied Yeshua’s connection to the root of David.

That was the extent of her contribution.

Not necessarily. Her children were likely grown up (Jesus was about 38), they and Mary were not an integral part of his peripatetic ministry, and his conjoint siblings were not enthusiastic about His gospel of the kingdom of heaven nor that of the Kingdom of God. Early in His public ministry at His home synagogue, in the presence of his family:

"But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house" (Mk. 6:4 AV).

"And Jesus said to them: A prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and in his own house, and among his own kindred" (Mar 6:4 DRB, Gk inverted here in translation to partially linguistically obscure Jesus' relationship to his brothers and sisters).

But also, this event took place overnight. without opportunity to be there of anyone farther than walking distance. I think only those accompanying Him for Yom Kippur were nearby.

nly John, the beloved, her sister the wife of Cleopas, and Mary of Magdala were with her at the cross. "Then saith he to the disciple, Behold thy mother! And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home" (Jn. 19:27 AV)

It seems clear that John took her away then, since in the synoptic Gospels the only other women mentioned observing the noonto three events were looking on from afar. Mary apparently was not there for the interment, either.

Mary supplied Yeshua’s connection to the root of David.

That was the extent of her contribution.

The primary feature that Mary lent to His genealogy is that one is a Jew by virtue of being born of a woman who is a Jew. That is indisputable naturally.

However, His legal claim to the throne, His royal right, comes through Joseph, the husband to which his mother was wedded, and who descended through the kingly line from Solomon; not through Nathan, from whom Mary was descended.

His Divinity consists of clothing His Spirit with the Perfect Unfallen Living Body conceived into Mary. He was not Mary: He was/is another individual, as is every infant born of a mother.
