(Reuters) - A suburban Seattle Catholic school vice principal who was fired in December for violating religious doctrine by marrying his same-sex partner, on Friday sued the school and the Archdiocese of Seattle for wrongful dismissal.
Mark Zmuda, who was also a swim coach at Eastside Catholic School, said he took the job after reading a school policy, since removed from its website, that it does not discriminate on the basis of an employee's sexual orientation or marital status.
His ouster, which led to student protests followed by the school president's resignation, is an example of tension between the increasing number of Americans who support same-sex marriage and religiously affiliated employers who view it as immoral.
"I was told I could either divorce or be fired," Zmuda told reporters at his lawyer's Seattle office. "How could anyone ask anyone else to make that kind of choice?"
Same-sex marriage became legal in Washington state in November 2012. Zmuda was married last July.

Throw it out of court.
Obama controls 90% of the judiciary. I wouldn’t be surprised if they ordered the school burnt down and all kids to be seized and adopted by homosexualists.
Take a stroll through the Bill of Rights and find that we don’t yet have to worry about troops garrisoned in our homes, and defendants still have the right to defense counsel. The 2A is kinda, sorta put up with, only because even rat pols know they’ll lose their jobs if they oppose it too hard.
Other than those, the Bill of Rights is kaput.
If it is true that he was hired at a time when the policy he mentions was in place, then he has a case. Has the school come out to refute his claim that this was on their website?
He wants to have his wedding cake and teach it, too.
I think it would be an easy choice, if you were really committed to your marriage. Who would want to work for an employer who gave you an ultimatum like that? Walk the walk, Zmuda!
All being done on purpose....to tear down the church and force beliefs on people. The church stands in the way of their objectives.
Too many people on our side miss the overall objectives of the homosexual rights/marriage movement. If more people spoke out like Chick Fil A's President or Duck Dynasty, the homo movement would grind to a screeching halt.
If Mark Zmuda did not find the terms of the contract acceptable, he should not have signed it. To object now -— after he agreed to it in writing — is a kind of fraud. Requiring performance on a contract is a basic requirement of a lawful society.

Exactly.
His case will not succeed, if the school hires even a barely functional attorney.
At our Christian school, all employees sign a contract that is very specific about living out Biblical sexual morality, and what will happen if they don’t.
In some of these recent cases, the teachers or administrators who were fired didn’t have a morals clause in their contract.
Big mistake.
If your employer has a sexual orientation nondiscrimination policy, and they then fire you for being a homosexual, you are probably going to win in court.
Any court.
Thanks for posting that link.
Some clergy will refuse and go to prison, some will wed homos gladly, and most will probably hold their noses and go along with it.
All they need is to have the right judges rule in their favor, and have SCOTUS refuse to review the case.
Why would previous rulings have more power than the Constitution, which is regularly ignored?
I wonder if the same legal demand will be made on the mosques?
