Mormon Church Head Thomas Monson Summoned by British Magistrates' Court Over Adam and Eve Teaching

Thomas S Monson, president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, ordered to appear before British magistrates' court amid claims that the organisation's teaching amounts to 'fraud'

A British magistrate has issued an extraordinary summons to the worldwide leader of the Mormon church alleging that its teachings about mankind amount to fraud.

Thomas S. Monson, President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has been ordered to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court in London next month to defend the church’s doctrines including beliefs about Adam and Eve and Native Americans.

A formal summons signed by District Judge Elizabeth Roscoe warns Mr Monson, who is recognised by Mormons as God’s prophet on Earth, that a warrant for his arrest could be issued if he fails to make the journey from Salt Lake City, Utah, for a hearing on March 14.

In one of the most unusual documents ever issued by a British court, it lists seven teachings of the church, including that Native Americans are descended from a family of ancient Israelites as possible evidence of fraud.

It also cites the belief that the Book of Mormon was translated from ancient gold plates revealed to the church’s founder Joseph Smith by angels and that Adam and Eve lived around 6,000 years ago.

If he’d preached “Adam and Steve” would he have been off the hook?

“A British magistrate has issued an extraordinary summons to the worldwide leader of the Mormon church alleging that its teachings about mankind amount to fraud.”

I think creationists are living in their own la-la land, but this is pure lunacy and tyranny. It is like the Scopes Monkey Trial, but only this time the other side is creating a circus.

Lets see if this brave magistrate would do this to the muzzies. After all their Koran is another revelation after the New Testament that twists and alters both the Old and New Testaments of the bible.

As much as I have a definite disagreement with Mormons, this is truly terrifying. Britain is a FASCIST country.

>>I think creationists are living in their own la-la land,

Perhaps they are, but since none of us will ever create a universe, it doesn’t really matter if we are doing it wrong.

Creationists believe that God could create the universe in 6 days in the face of evidence that he didn’t. Good for them! I applaud their faith.

Now if fish were evolving into lizards right before our eyes and the creationists were running around killing “those satanic fish-lizards”, then we might have a problem with them. But, since no one has ever seen evolution from one type of animal to another, they really can’t hurt anyone with their beliefs.

A Government court having the audacity to question the content of a church’s scriptures or teachings? My my how low UK has sunk. Pitiful!!! ( if the judge or magistrate doesn’t believe the teachings he is perfectly free not to join the church. Period What appears to be happening in UK is demonic ( and highly dangerous, lest our British friends forget their own history). Pray for UK. (And America. And Israel. The forces of islamonazis and “secularism” are already inside the tent. )

This sounds too much like the sort of thing that first drove the Pilgrims to leave in the first place, and then the Founders to write the Constitution the way they did.

Has anyone here actually read the summons?

This is not about religion, this is a criminal cause for fraud.

Scroll down for actual summons.

I do not find Mormon teachings credible and I don't think they bear much critical scrutiny. Having said that, the intrusion of a UK court into the religious creeds of an American citizen is jaw-dropping tyranny.

Anybody know what Thomas Monson's options are? Can he just ignore it? Is the U.S. going to be party to the extradition of a U.S. citizen to answer to a U.K. judge about questions arising from religious texts?

Maybe not ...

If Adam and Eve are the First parents ... ALL peoples come from SOMEone else, ultimatelt from Adam and Eve.

Very interesting. If a religious body can’t prove, to the satisfaction of a court, that its teachings are factually true, then what? Does the church have to pay restitution to everyone who disagrees with what it teaches?

And what about Islam? (Always the killer question, so to speak.)

Most religions are a huge fraud, on the same grounds.
But is it reasonable or prudent to challenge their beliefs in court?

It’s not a fraud if they believe it.
