Imagine a right-wing politician who proclaimed that left-wingers who are pro-gay, pro-abortion, and anti-self defense have no place in their state.
Can anyone doubt that Jewish leaders would condemn the statement and speak out loudly about intolerance, and the need for diversity. Wouldnt they issue press releases and more? If such a politician would make a statement, pressure would mount for his resignation and undoubtedly itd make for a lot of media attention.
Yet, Democratic Governor Andrew Cuomos assertions that conservative New Yorkers dont belong in the State because thats not what New Yorkers are have largely been ignored. Cuomo continued, Right-to-life, pro-assault weapons, anti-gay if thats who they are, they have no place in the state of New York because thats not who New Yorkers are.
It is a testament to blatant double standards that not one Jewish organization has condemned this hateful speech.
These intolerant and offensive statements should be condemned especially as many ultra-Orthodox Jews would object to certain aspects of Cuomos beliefs.
Are these Jews and conservatives of all stripes being told that they must leave New York State? How dare he.
None other than the great President Ronald Reagan said: The frustrating thing is that those who are attacking religion claim they are doing it in the name of tolerance, freedom and open-mindedness. Question: Isnt the real truth that they are intolerant of religion? They refuse to tolerate its importance in our lives.
Cuomos statements are offensive to so many people for so many different reasons. Wherever one stands on the political map, they should condemn this intolerance. Tolerance must come in all sizes and shapes and applies to all political strains.
Liberals must also be tolerant of those whom they dont agree with and Jewish civil rights organizations must speak up on these issues, not only on issues in which they oppose conservatives.
To quote Reagan again, The trouble with our Liberal friends is not that theyre ignorant; its just that they know so much that isnt so. Last I checked, Andrew Cuomo wasnt the divine ruler of New York State and his offensive speech must be condemned by decent people of all religious beliefs.
“and Jewish civil rights organizations must speak up on these issues, not only on issues in which they oppose conservatives”
Precisely.
Ping!
My guess is that most Jewish organizations agree with Cuomo, but don't want to come out an say so.
Surely an Orthodox Rabbi will speak up.
Don’t hold your breath.
History does rhyme...
If only one country, for whatever reason, tolerates a Jewish family in it, that family will become the germ center for fresh sedition. If one little Jewish boy survives without any Jewish education, with no synagogue and no Hebrew school, it [Judaism] is in his soul. Even if there had never been a synagogue or a Jewish school or an Old Testament, the Jewish spirit would still exist and exert its influence. It has been there from the beginning and there is no Jew, not a single one, who does not personify it.
- Robert Wistrich, Hitler’s Apocalypse, p. 122; from a conversation with Croatian Foreign Minister General Kvaternik, July 21, 1941
The internal expurgation of the Jewish spirit is not possible in any platonic way. For the Jewish spirit is the product of the Jewish person. Unless we expel the Jewish people. Unless we expel the Jewish people soon, they will have judaized our people within a very short time.
- Jackel, Hitler’s Worldview, p. 52; from a speech at Nuremberg, January 13, 1923
It would be far better if Cardinal Dolan and the other bishops did their duty. Perhaps they can study how Becket and More spoke truth to power and exercised their ecclesiastical responsibilities. Andrew Cuomo and more importantly the people of New York needs to be disabused of any notion that he is a Catholic.
lol....yeah, New York American Jews speaking out like that. To most of them “Never Again” means “take the other guy first; we’ll be over here in line”..
Haredi Jews will be majority of Jews in New York in the not-too distant future.
I don't see a straight analogy there with Cuomo's rant.
I don’t get why Jews in the US are so determinedly liberal and anti-Christian. The way they acted when “The Passion of the Christ” was released you would have thought that teams of Nazis were swarming Synagogues. By any account the entire cast and crew of that film should have been cleaning up all the Oscars.
Since then Mel Gibson has made great films and yet, the Jews piled on him and screamed that he was an anti-Semite and since then ti’s been one downhill round in his life. When he did that horrible rant while drunk, I don’t blame him. He was so badly targeted and tormented it’s no wonder he fell apart the way he did.
I agree with Reagan, except for one thing. I do not have ANY liberal friends, not one. They are the enemy. I have nothing to do with them.
I dunno—For whatever reason, and in spite of their history, Judaism appears to willingly embrace liberalism.
Kinda reminds me of an increasingly self-destructive adolescent who is confident that his parents will rescue him if he gets in over his head.
Some of those who speak up are sometimes attacked in sneaky and officious ways. I hope that they will continue to inform others on the most important of things for now and grow support enormously.

A rather disingenuous comment considering the article is written by a Jew from Brooklyn published in a Brooklyn newspaper.
There won’t be any pushback, here.
The Jews are thinking in lockstep with Cuomo. They will keep it up ‘till the shower doors close behind them.
Not so with orthodox
Or at least that he can't claim, in truth, that he's practicing the Faith.
