An elderly woman was left on the floor at a care home for up to ten minutes because a nurse was praying, an inquest heard.
Alzheimer's sufferer Dorothy Griffiths, 87, was found sitting down after staff heard a bang and a carer went to the office for help to lift her.
But agency nurse Abdul Bhutto, who was in charge, said they would have to wait.
Carer Zoe Shaw told the Sheffield hearing: "It took between five and ten minutes because he was praying upstairs in the office on his prayer mat. A staff member told me we had to wait for him to finish."
An ambulance was not called for nearly four hours after Mrs Griffiths fell from bed and cut her head and suffered a gash to her hip at the privately-run Valley Park Nursing Home in Wombwell, near Barnsley.
She died later in hospital. Mr Bhutto failed to appear at the inquest and a summons had to be issued for him to attend the resumed hearing later in the year.

I hope that this privately owned facility ends up in the hands of this woman’s family and this POS nurse gets his @$$ canned. But of course it won’t happen because this happened in Englandstahn! No one should be allowed to work as a Nurse or a Doctor if their so called religion keeps them from giving a patient critical care when it is needed because they have to pray.
Guess what he was praying for.
Our Lord Jesus got a lot of grief for healing on the Sabbath. “I desire mercy, not sacrifice.”
Well it’s the NHS in England, soon to be here under 0bamaCare.
He should never be in a position of working within the medical field again. This death is because of his criminal negligence. Fry his a$$.
I’m puzzled about the discrepancy between the “five or ten minutes” Mr. Bhutto was praying, vs. the four hours before the staff called for help. I’ve got no brief for putting Islam ahead of patient care, but there seems to be more involved here.
Some of them were looking for a reason to accuse Jesus, so they watched him closely to see if he would heal him on the Sabbath. Jesus said to the man with the shriveled hand, "Stand up in front of everyone." Then Jesus asked them, "Which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill?" But they remained silent. He looked around at them in anger and, deeply distressed at their stubborn hearts, said to the man, "Stretch out your hand." He stretched it out, and his hand was completely restored.
As much as liberals like to pretend that all cultures and value systems are equal, I'll stick with the idea that God wants us to care for the sick, rather than the idea that he wants us to ignore those in need. I'll stick with Christianity.
Charge then with murder!!
phuquing islamics
Get the lady out of that facility.
Compare that scenario with a priest who gets a call and is there as soon as he is able, whether he had been praying or not!
Who cares?
ohuquung islamics are bound for hell.....I agree with Thomas Jefferson - send them
I care, in the kind of casual way one cares about Daily Mail news from the U.K. If Mr. Bhutto prayed for five minutes, but the patient didn't get needed aid for four hours, what was the problem for the remaining 3 hours and 55 minutes?
If it's perceived that the Moslem nurse is the problem, and he's replaced with one of a different religion, such that a patient who has fallen is rescued in only 3 hours and 55 minutes, is that really an improvement?
She is out. She’s dead.
it was a male muslim nurse.
Hey, islamics are the issue here do not make excuses.
Single layer insurance is another, keep your focus one the primary issue group.
Yea, I meant layer
You might think Moslems are the issue. I might think incompetent care in general is the issue. It’s not either of our elderly family member in question, so it’s not like it’s immediately personal.
The difference between ten minutes and four hours isn’t negligible.
Bump
Must not have got the memo: "And He said to them, "Which one of you will have a son or an ox fall into a well, and will not immediately pull him out on a Sabbath day?" -- Jesus (Lu 14:5)
Or maybe this fits better: "For Moses said, 'Honor your father and mother,' and, 'Anyone who curses their father or mother is to be put to death.' But you say that if anyone declares that what might have been used to help their father or mother is Corban (that is, devoted to God)" -- Jesus again (Mk 7:10,11)
Generally the staff nurse is in charge of the care givers or it seems per the article “carer” staff. Nothing is done without the explicit order of the staff nurse. I have a relative in ALZ care and that is how it works. I spent New Year’s day in the ER because the staff nurse was worried about her vomiting and possible relation to pace maker and or possible stroke happening. They make the call. This nurse was responsible for making the call. He instead chose to see to his own priorities. If the care facility must allow him this personal time, then they need to have another who can make this call to send for ambulance and emergency care.
