Protestants opposed contraception until the 1930 Lambeth Conference. After this, positions changed. So, did the Bible change, or did they?
Prior to 1930, all Protestant denominations were opposed to artificial means of contraception.
What changed?
Sounds like you would benefit the most by staying off the Religion Forum for awhile.I'm aware (and my confessor is helping me) that reading (and responding to) commentary like yours, only puts me in a hole, and does nothing positive for you, either. Cheer up! The kings have arrived. Enjoy!
“Vlad you have an assertion based on peeking in windows? How can you come to that conclusion?”
I stated a plain fact based upon the beliefs and practices of Protestant sects. Feel free to prove me wrong. Go ahead and post information from any Protestant sect (especially one of any notable size or influence) which shows they oppose: 1) abortion - even in regard to the life of the mother, incest and rape; 2) oppose all artificial birth control - especially abortifacients like The Pill. As I said, there might be a puny, rink-a-dink, Johnny-come-lately Protestant sect out there which believes as orthodox Christians do, but you’ll probably really have to hunt for it. Why don’t you send a letter or email to Protestants Against Birth Control (yes, it did once exist but I don’t know if it still does) and see what they say. I am sure they know of one, or even several, puny, rink-a-dink, of-no-real-account, and completely uninfluential Protestant sect which actually believes what Christians are supposed to believe. Maybe.
Dont let second-rate schismatic guile get you down.Yeah, I know. Thank you! It always bothers me, though, when a Catholic walks away from Christ at the altar and then tries to school people on Christianity.
But, unless we have Jesus, we cannot give Him; that is why we need the Eucharist. --Mother Teresa of Calcutta, 7-15-96 http://adorationrocks.com/letter.html
You are so right about that redleghunter.
It's the way it was done according to Scripture. I suggest you read the letter written to the Romans, chapter 6, for openers.
Maybe you are trying to get us back on track to the context of the orignal article?
Nice twist of my words. NFP can be used to properly space the births. It may not be used to simply avoid pregnancy for no good reason.
Is that more clear for you?
I just want to add that many souls, Catholic and Non-Catholic’s are for Life.I am talking about groups and in the end I have to answer for myself and no-one else.As a pro-lifer I love our non-catholic friends and they have been wonderful to me in everything I do in Ministry.
I understand your position government should not involve itself in marriage and health issues. That is very libertarian of you. However government HAS involved themselves in these matters AND by doing so has determined legally what they think is life and when it begins. So it is no longer a liberty or pursuit of happiness issue we face as Christians but a life issue. As Christians we cannot be on the sidelines on life beginning at conception. Therefore, as Christians who have a right to vote in this country should we not reflect our convictions and vote for those committed to Life?
Unless you see a greater issue to vote for. I don’t.
Well no I'm not sorry...It was a legitimate question...You want to ask about my son who died in the military??? Have at it...You poor little Catholics...
A Protestant hate site, eh??? I'll have to check it out...
Perhaps we should look at measurable results. Baptists, Evangelicals and non-denomination Christians make up the majority of the Bible belt and red states. Those churches are rabidly pro life and send pro life candidates to State and Federal government elected office. Look at those red states and the progress they made to restrict and defund the abortion industry.
The facts are clear that devout Roman Catholics speak much against abortion however when pulling the lever behind the curtain they corporately send leftist pro abortion candidates to State and Federal office. Heavy Roman Catholic populations are in blue states and urban areas. Those areas are deepest democrat and pro death. There can be only one conclusion. That repealing abortion is not the top issue Roman Catholics vote for. If it was we would not have Biden and others in office.
So where you generalize I have offered consequential measurable evidence. Since many here love to quote 35,000 “sects” of Prots out there it is amazing that where all these “sects” are more populous they have all voted for candidates and propositions which will end abortion and preserve and affirm traditional marriage. Maybe the Roman Catholic church should research and find out why this is so and why so many of her faithful vote for abortionist candidates or self excommunicate themselves.
The equally sickening part of this is that FR Catholics were successful in having banned as hate sites those sites that reveal this dark side of Catholic history...
And you dear lady are a warrior for life. God Bless you, your husband and the beautiful miracles you have brought into this World by His Will.
That's a silly statement...You don't have Jesus when you walk away from the altar...You leave him there...That's why you guys have to sit in your church for hours at a time staring at a cracker...Strange religion...
God Bless you. You speak wisdom from humility and that is clearly fruit from the True Vine.
I didn't twist your words...I put them in perspective...You say you are avoiding pregnancy for a good reason...To keep from having babies when they are inconvenient for you...The same reason people take contraceptives...
Brother deepest sympathies and thank you for the service your son provided our nation as he paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.
God Bless
