I would be a Mormon even if I believed that Joseph Smith was not a prophet, since they were the first Church in 1300 years to re-establish God’s relationship with Jesus Christ to Biblical Primacy over the various tortured Creeds (Nicene,Apostles,Athenasian).

God is the literal Father of Jesus Christ .... not the 1st face of a god with a three-way personality disorder!

God does not need multiple personality disorder counseling!

Jesus Christ is the literal begotten Son of our Father in Heaven!

“I would be a Mormon even if I believed that Joseph Smith was not a prophet,”

You’d be surprised how many Mormons there are who don’t believe in Joseph Smith, but still remain a part of their religion. It’s hard to believe in a bigamist and pedophile, but it’s harder to be cut off from your family and community.

“God is the literal Father of Jesus Christ .... not the 1st face of a god with a three-way personality disorder!”

Says the silly polytheist who thinks there are three gods, and that, if he is good enough, he will also become a god of his own planet:

“Is there a God beside me? yea, there is no God; I know not any” (Isaiah 44:8)

“before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me.” (Isaiah 43:10)

I guess you should amend your statement “Even if I believed Joseph Smith was not a prophet, and believed in the Bible, I would still remain a Mormon despite them.”

Jesus told us He and the Father are One. When we see Him, we see the Father. In the opening lines of John's Gospel, we read of God and the Word of God Who is God through Whom all has been created. Throughout Scripture, we read of God's Spirit active through the Prophets and Apostles.

It is a great mystery... but it is not worthy of your derision.

God had literal sex with His own daughter, Mary to give us His Son Jesus, huh?

God also had a mother and father, huh?

My husband and I may become Gods ourselves with our own spirit children, huh?

And you think God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit is weird?

Do your research Tepid, no they weren’t. They weren’t even the first ‘restoration’ church.

The rest of your comment is a strawman proving you do not understand how Christians actually view the Trinity.

Jesus Christ is God’s Son, spiritually and physically.

He calls Him Father, He prays to Him.
We are to pray to Him, God the Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, His Son.
God’s voice was heard at Christ’s baptism, coming from Heaven while He was in the water. The Holy Sirit also descended.
Three seperate entities/Gods.

Oh???

Moses
Chapter 3

1 Thus the heaven and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.
2 And on the seventh day I, God, ended my work, and all things which I had made; and I rested on the seventh day from all my work, and all things which I had made were finished, and I, God, saw that they were good;
3 And I, God, blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it; because that in it I had rested from all my work which I, God, had created and made.
4 And now, behold, I say unto you, that these are the generations of the heaven and of the earth, when they were created, in the day that I, the Lord God, made the heaven and the earth,
5 And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew. For I, the Lord God, created all things, of which I have spoken, spiritually, before they were naturally upon the face of the earth. For I, the Lord God, had not caused it to rain upon the face of the earth. And I, the Lord God, had created all the children of men; and not yet a man to till the ground; for in heaven created I them; and there was not yet flesh upon the earth, neither in the water, neither in the air;
6 But I, the Lord God, spake, and there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground.
7 And I, the Lord God, formed man from the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul, the first flesh upon the earth, the first man also; nevertheless, all things were before created; but spiritually were they created and made according to my word.
8 And I, the Lord God, planted a garden eastward in Eden, and there I put the man whom I had formed.
9 And out of the ground made I, the Lord God, to grow every tree, naturally, that is pleasant to the sight of man; and man could behold it. And it became also a living soul. For it was spiritual in the day that I created it; for it remaineth in the sphere in which I, God, created it, yea, even all things which I prepared for the use of man; and man saw that it was good for food. And I, the Lord God, planted the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and also the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
10 And I, the Lord God, caused a river to go out of Eden to water the garden; and from thence it was parted, and became into four heads.
11 And I, the Lord God, called the name of the first Pison, and it compasseth the whole land of Havilah, where I , the Lord God, created much gold;
12 And the gold of that land was good, and there was bdellium and the onyx stone.
13 And the name of the second river was called Gihon; the same that compasseth the whole land of Ethiopia.
14 And the name of the third river was Hiddekel; that which goeth toward the east of Assyria. And the fourth river was the Euphrates.
15 And I, the Lord God, took the man, and put him into the Garden of Eden, to dress it, and to keep it.
16 And I, the Lord God, commanded the man, saying: Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat,
17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it, nevertheless, thou mayest choose for thyself, for it is given unto thee; but, remember that I forbid it, for in the day thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
18 And I, the Lord God, said unto mine Only Begotten, that it was not good that the man should be alone; wherefore, I will make an help meet for him.
19 And out of the ground I, the Lord God, formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and commanded that they should come unto Adam, to see what he would call them; and they were also living souls; for I, God, breathed into them the breath of life, and commanded that whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that should be the name thereof.
20 And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but as for Adam, there was not found an help meet for him.
21 And I, the Lord God, caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam; and he slept, and I took one of his ribs and closed up the flesh in the stead thereof;
22 And the rib which I, the Lord God, had taken from man, made I a woman, and brought her unto the man.
23 And Adam said: This I know now is bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of man.
24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife; and they shall be one flesh.
25 And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.

...the various tortured Creeds (Nicene,Apostles,Athenasian).

You got the teaching down pat.

Wanna tackle rationalizing your OWN CREED?

Here is MORMONism's own creed:

Articles of Faith

The Articles of Faith outline 13 basic points of belief of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The Prophet Joseph Smith first wrote them in a letter to John Wentworth, a newspaper editor,
in response to Mr. Wentworth's request to know what members of the Church believed.
They were subsequently published in Church periodicals.
They are now regarded as scripture and included in the Pearl of Great Price.

THE ARTICLES OF FAITH
OF THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS
History of the Church, Vol. 4, pp. 535—541

  1. We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost.
  2. We believe that men will be punished for their own sins, and not for Adam's transgression.
  3. We believe that through the Atonement of Christ, all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel.
  4. We believe that the first principles and ordinances of the Gospel are: first, Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; second, Repentance; third, Baptism by immersion for the remission of sins; fourth, Laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost.
  5. We believe that a man must be called of God, by prophecy, and by the laying on of hands by those who are in authority, to preach the Gospel and administer in the ordinances thereof.
  6. We believe in the same organization that existed in the Primitive Church, namely, apostles, prophets, pastors, teachers, evangelists, and so forth.
  7. We believe in the gift of tongues, prophecy, revelation, visions, healing, interpretation of tongues, and so forth.
  8. We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God.
  9. We believe all that God has revealed, all that He does now reveal, and we believe that He will yet reveal many great and important things pertaining to the Kingdom of God.
  10. We believe in the literal gathering of Israel and in the restoration of the Ten Tribes; that Zion (the New Jerusalem) will be built upon the American continent; that Christ will reign personally upon the earth; and, that the earth will be renewed and receive its paradisiacal glory.
  11. We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may.
  12. We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law.
  13. We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul—We believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to endure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things.

Joseph Smith

So Jesus (i.e. God the son) was lying in Matthew 16: 18-22 when he said “thou art Peter and upon this rock I build my church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” Got it.

One would have to say that on the spectrum, Mormons are quite out in left field. you are the only ones that believe that mortal men can later become gods and have their own universe they control. To say the least, that is “out there” for 100% of Christians, Catholic, Orthodox, or Protestant. NONE of us believe that. I’m sure they mean well, but it’s just so off base and contrary to scripture and oral teaching from the apostles.

Mormon teppe states: "God is the literal Father of Jesus Christ .... not the 1st face of a god with a three-way personality disorder!"

This is proof of antichristian (and antiFReeper) doctrine.

From a post by Jim Robinson, "Free Republic is a pro-God site. The one and only true Judeo-Christian God as taught to us by KJV with no additional editing or books of fiction..I have zero faith in Joseph Smith or his so-called Mormon religion and do not want it taught on FR as gospel. Joe Smith was a false prophet and his book is false gospel (look it up in KJV). Those who cannot live with that are certainly free to post elsewhere."

ALL: This is where Mormons like Teppe misrepresent the Christian faith. We clearly teach that the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit is NOT the same Person or Personality.

Three Persons within One essence.

Also, note: That when the Mormons want to sound trinitarian -- but avoid the term -- they use the word "Godhead"...

So the Mormon "Godhead" is simply a Mormon euphemism for "Trinity."

Why are you falling for this silly story Teppe for gosh sake this is a phony tale you should have spot right the bat LOL

“looked down on Christians...They had part of the gospel, but I had the fullness of it. I kept the laws and ordinances of Mormonism”

Such deceivers and tell such untruths about the LDS
https://byustudies.byu.edu/Resources/NewTestament/NewTestamentLessons.aspx

After reading the Book of Mormon we even love the Bible more because of the key which unlocks so many precious verses that laid doormat for years. I know this for a fact because I was mainstream first and never in the years was there as much enlightenment as now so many passages have been open up and fuller understanding it is only when they began to debunk the LDS for the first time many could read and receive clearer understanding.

Because the Standard works meaning all of the scriptures that the LDS have testify and make clear of the passages in the Bible and this is the hand of the Lord wanting his people to have more understanding which the Tradition of Men would have never allowed.

They sure did not know in the 60’s or 70’s but now many act as if this knowledge now, they were always aware of...

I am thankful I can witness the difference.

God is the literal Father of Jesus Christ ....Jesus Christ is the literal begotten Son of our Father in Heaven!

Allow me to elaborate upon what Mormonism teaches on this -- with a quote from their 10th "Prophet" -- Joseph Fielding Smith, great nephew of Joseph Smith himself:

I have in my possession a book published in Salt Lake City, 1959, written by Joseph Fielding Smith entitled Religious Truths Defined.

Here's what Joseph Fielding Smith, Jr. taught about the "virgin birth":

"But some say, Christ was conceived by the Holy Ghost and born of the Virgin Mary. If this were true Christ would be the son of the Holy Ghost, not the Son of God. The scripture is clear but misunderstood by most theologians." (p. 43)

Cont'd: "He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest...The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee..." (Luke 1)

Smith then tries to wiggle further out of the clear Biblical teaching that the Holy Spirit supernaturally ensured the Virgin Birth on the next page (p. 44):

"The Holy Ghost is not called God Almighty and Mary understood clearly that the Holy Ghost was not to be the Father of her son, Jesus Christ."

Smith then cites Lds Doctrines & Covenants 67:11:

"For no man has seen God at any time in the flesh, except quickened by the Spirit of God." (D&C 67:11) Thus itis written that 'the Holy Ghost shall come upon thee [to permit her to behold the presence of the Father] and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee.'

Smith then wraps up this "revelation" with this zinger:

"The Father God was the literal parent of Jesus in the flesh as well as in the spirit."

****************************

Now here's what's interesting on this thread:

You have a Mormon who comes on quite early and smashes & dashes Mary and her virgin birth (see above) just a few days after Christmas...

And yet Catholic FR posters TeryCarl, Salvation, Gemoftheocean, Impimp, PGYanke and Campion all 100% ignore it, letting this slam vs. the Virgin Mary slide, -- and elect to tee off ONLY on Luther instead 'cause this ex-Mormon testimony happens to mention him.

For additional info on Mormonism's cross-eyed slants on the virgin birth, see the 7 links provided on post #118.
